Well maintained trail. Slightly steep switchback turns closer to the summit at Dimple Hill. Very shady for most of trail. Gorgeous views of Corvallis and Philomath.

Pleasant hike but very crowded. The drive up after turning off the highway was quite a bit longer than I expected and very winding, with some potholes and most of it being single lane it was a little nerve wracking for me. I arrived right after 11am on a Thursday and the lot was completely full. About ten cars showed up right behind me and all just parked along the side of the road. Seems to be one of our local “hotspots” with need for permits in the near future. Bathrooms at the parking lot were indescribably filthy. I’m a nurse and I dry heaved... then practically bathed in hand sani. Would not recommend for a peaceful, quiet hike through nature due to the crowding. Great hike to go be out with friends/family, it’s not super hard, the bridge was cool, and some people were swimming around the waterfall at the end.

Barking sea lions is the first thing that comes to mind. They were loud about midway down the trail. There were muddy spots, but branches and rocks helped me get through. The views in the meadow at the end are nice. You have to hunt through the maze to get even better views. I didn't know there was a waterfall in the cove until a nice lady told me so. In the morning the cove was mostly a silhouette, but I can see the falls in my brightened photo after the fact. The cove would be lit better at midday or in the early afternoon.

Great hike not too hard and the bridge is amazing

Easy gradual hike. Flies were annoying but the bridge was worth it. Parking was full on a Monday afternoon.

Great hike amazing waterfall at the end.

Great hike, up hill on The way back was rough but well worth the hike. You can heat sea lions from
The look out!

Short but beautiful. I stopped here on the way back from Crater Lake and don't regret it!

My boyfriend and I went on this hike today for the first time. Now, this may be easy for others who are more physically fit and active lol.. but for people like my boyfriend and I who are overweight have had a hard time coming back. It was the longest we’ve ever hiked but man was it beautiful! Totally worth it. I saw a few centipedes, butterfly’s, squirrels, and heard some seals. We are now very sore and probably won’t go back for awhile lol at least until we lose some pounds. This isn’t for beginner hikers! I repeat! Not a beginners trail! Unless my boyfriend and I just suck lol. We made it though! Woohoo!

smelled terrible.

Suspension bridge, waterfall, dense forest... LOVE!
Elevation gain was about 728 feet combined. Not very steep at all at its "worse." Took my 75 year old father and he did fine for being an inactive person.

Amazing view , kids had a great time . Very well maintained trail and easy short hike .

on Obsidian Trail

The most beautiful hike I have been on in the States. Requires a reservation, which is a pain to get but worth the trouble. I’ve done this twice, both times in August. There is nothing on earth like the obsidian fields, they glow in the sunlight, absolutely worth the trip. Plus Middle Sister looms directly overhead after you punch up out of the forest. This is full of cliffs, peaks, dells, forests, lava rocks and obsidian glass. Stunning, do not pass up the opportunity.

There is a pretty nice little stream right before the loop at the end. Easy refill if you have a means for purification.

Bugs were not an issue, and I hit no snow.

It’s pretty remote as the permit only allows 30 people a day (70 campers I believe). Rangers do check for permits. In 4 hours I saw 2 hikers, and one ranger, otherwise I had the trail to myself.

This is labeled moderate but if you are not pushing the pace I’d say it’s easy for an adult. I jogged it when I was 18, I did it in 4 hours last week at 40.

Honestly.... ugh. My husband clocked in 6 miles on his Fitbit. 6 miles to look at the Oregon Coast just wasn't worth it to me.

Great family hike filled with a ton of nature (we spotted a snake, chipmunk, millipede & an assortment of birds). The suspension bridge at the end is the highlight and a pretty neat experience.

Do not go right as one of the recent reviews states!!! The cove is to the left from the clearing. We followed someone’s comment instead of trusting our instincts and got lost.

A nice, easy, well maintained trail if you want a break from beach activities on coast. Waterfall and suspension bridge at end of trail very unique and there is some good rock scrambling for the kids (optional at end of hike). Trail is well graded so really no serious uphill hiking. Access road to trailhead is long and narrow - but paved, so a big plus - a nice drive through forest.

This is a great family trail. I took my daughter and her best friend, both 14. We had a great time. The trail is well taken care of and it is a very peaceful hike. The bridge is great! Perfect multiple view photo opportunity for subjects or the falls. When you make it down to the bottom be sure to explore. It is worth climbing around and getting your feet wet. Depending on your timing you can walk right up next to the bottom of the falls and get soaked in a heartbeat by the spray.

As a follow up to Katie Holts review yesterday. We went at 10am and there was maybe 5 bees the whole way. So don’t let that review deter you unless you are going later in the day maybe?

This is a wonderful hike. Took a 4,6 and 9 year old. The 4 year old was whining pretty good most of the way back but we made it.

The key is when you get to the meadow at the end of the trail (overlooking the ocean), sort of bear right and try to find the big tree down the hill along the cliff. It's tempting to go toward the trees on the left, but stick to the right. That's where the viewpoint of the cove/waterfall is. But it's not marked and the trail splits and re-splits all through the hay in the meadow, so it's very unclear where to go. I think the actual trail ends at the top of the meadow, so add another .6 miles (.3 down the hill and back) if you're going to the viewpoint (which you should...it's the entire payoff of the hike). Overall it's a pretty laid-back hike, but the uphill at the end is the tough part.

Now this is what a get away should be all about. We hiked in and did an overnighter in our hammocks. Plenty of camp spots up around from Obsidian Falls. Spring water out of the shale rock was awesome. Crystal clear. We had our own little private lake for a dip at Arrow head lakes. Too much to see for a day hike. I recommend an overnighter to soak it all in. Sunrise and Sunset were picture perfect.

This review would be perfect except for one thing... bees! Thankfully I’m not allergic, because I was stung TWICE while on the trail. We hiked with our dog and never left the trail once or disturbed any nature, however for the majority of our hike in and about half the hike back out we were followed by numerous vengeful bees. I was stung twice, once on each leg. Thankfully my wife and dog were not stung but that doesn’t mean they weren’t also at the mercy of these evil bees!

This hike is very pretty, the road in and trail are both well maintained, and the high bridge and waterfall at the end are both worth it. However, please take this with as much caution as possible, FOR THOSE ALLERGIC TO BEES: Do Not Hike This Trail! Even with an EpiPen, these bees will not leave you alone!

Won’t be returning anytime soon.

Come here all the time. A beautiful long walk.

Awesome hike trail for a family. We brought our 13 yr old, 8 yr old and 7 yr old to do the hike and they enjoyed it. The suspension bridge was next to the waterfall, which was at the end of the trail. We did the whole hike just under 2hrs (round trip). Great views all around. Paths were well maintained and easy to follow.

Beautiful hike. Pretty low key. It would have been nice if the view at the end was a little more established. Trail was pretty empty when we started but filled up by the time we came out.

Hiked this today, so the road and trail are open for business! Beautiful hike! We had a lot of fog rolling in and out along the way which created a very cool atmosphere. We went about 9/10 in the morning and the traffic on the trail was pretty light, but when we got back the parking lot was pretty packed and starting down the road. Switchbacks coming up last about the last .5 miles and we’re fairly difficult, but overall I’d say this hike is more moderate.

In love

My favorite waterfall to dance beneath. Great little hike with wonderful rewards.

It was a nice hike. They have a wooden path that you hike on with railings. I went in the summer and the water was pretty dried up so it was mostly mud under the cat walk. Saw a snake, and a beaver along with some birds. Not dog friendly. Sign says no pets allowed.
