Combined this trail and Tompkins Knob for a nice hike that was not too strenuous. The only difficult part of this trail is the stairs down to the falls. The rock steps are uneven and the hand rail has eroded or is broken in a few places so care has to be taken. Because we have had a very wet spring this year, the falls were beautiful-much nicer than some of the pictures I have seen of them taken when it was much drier. The steps lead to two viewing areas do have a substantial rock wall. Because of the sheer steepness of the falls these are not the type you would want to even attempt to wade in areas above them.. The return trail meanders along Fall Creek is lovely.

Paved trail to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, highest point in the Appalachian Mountains. Not really a hike but more of a walk to the summit. Trail is somewhat steep, but rest benches are provided at several places. Remember that the air is thin at this elevation, so you will get winded faster than usual. This is a nice option for people who cannot do one of the park's harder trails.

Ok so if you’re going to do this trail start at the picnic area and head up from there. I made the mistake of starting at the visitors center and heading down, only to find some picnic tables overlooking a parking lot! Kids were not pleased. The grassy knoll was nice, saw some people hanging out up there in some nice spots. That’s easily accessible from the visitors center if you just want a nice easy spot to be....never found the waterfall either

I'm not getting it, but I totally didn't see a waterfall. There was a juncture, off this path, that leads to Douglas Falls in 3.6 miles. But, I didn't see a waterfall on this 1.9 mi (RT) trail. Trail was well-maintained. Start at the picnic area parking lot. When you get to the "Visitors Center," which is a pavilion, go thru/under the shelter to continue straight. If you take the path to the right, it leads to a dead-end about a quarter mile up with a below-average overlook. The straight path will lead you to the juncture already mentioned or to the start of Craggy Garden Trails from the overlook. This is a nice path for a walk in the woods after a picnic. I did this as my last hike of the day, so I didn't have enough in me to take the Douglas Falls path for what I assumed would be a 7 mi RT. I only did it because I thought I could get a waterfall in under 2 mi RT.

Pleasant and relatively easy walk to the falls. It gets a bit steep for a few feet just before arriving at the falls, but there is a great and easy to access viewing area before that.

Very pleasant walk to the base of the falls.

Trail is well marked. Six mile gravel road to the trailhead is scenic. The falls are beautiful and it is a great hang out spot for me and my dogs EXCEPT - SNAKES! Lots of these under the rock ledges today. Great swim spot though - GO EARLY for solitude.

This is a nice little trail for walking a dog.

Perfect trail for kids and families. Ends at a series of lovely little waterfalls that kids can wade and rock hop around. Took two four year olds, 10 year old and 14 year old and they had a blast. Well-marked signs to trailhead and on trail.

Super easy hike to the waterfalls. The trail is graded with rock. My 93-year-old grandmother made it there is no problem. There are some small areas for kids to splash around in the nude deeper than ankle depth. All in all a beautiful souls it easy hike for everyone.

Both the Craggy Garden and Pinnacle are about equally difficult. A much better view from the landing at the top of Pinnacle

Great family trail! We even took our stroller on it with no issue. Easy, short, fun. Great for little kids.

Great app

Peaceful and easy walk with wonderful waterfall

Trail was not overly crowded, plenty of shade and trees on the entire trail. Waterfall was beautiful.

Easy hike. Especially great for young children.

Beautiful waterfall and stream bed with lots of rocks. I loved all the little waterfalls and streams coming together at the bottom.

Should be rated moderate.

Short and sweet with a nice overlook. Parking area has great view of Grandfather Mountain. We were there on a very foggy day but when the clouds cleared for a few moments it looked amazing!

This was a beautiful hike and gave us a great view as we are learning our new home. The only down side was the road there was a bit confusing the first time. Stop and ask any locals you see on your way up... they were very helpful. Follow signs to the picnic area
