Great hike! You definitely won't have crazy views of the mountains as a lot of the reviews below point out, but you will still definitely get your nature fix. Microspikes helped a lot as some parts were both steep and icy. Not a great trail for dogs because of how steep it gets in spots.

While there is nothing spectacular about this trail it was a good one to do during a decent snow. The trail was still fairly easy to follow even though no on had been on it since the snow. Keep in mind that no matter which direction you go, you end the hike going up. This hike is mostly through forest and follows the stream in many areas. I would not recommend this one for little kids. There are a few spots with steep drop offs from the trail. With easy access to Denver, this is a good hike if you want to get out in the woods and need something close.

Did this hike 11/10 and it was a pretty quiet trail. I enjoyed the hike but the one negative was that there aren’t many good views of the mountains. It was still nice to get out and be by the water which was frozen over in some parts. Overall I recommend doing this trail for sure

Fun trail where you can see many different directions if you are up on the ridge.

Great 5 mile lollipop trail, clearly marked. There were some nice creek crossings for the dogs to play in. I’ll definitely be back!

This hike was good to get out and move. Not a lot of sights to see and really only one or 2 that are worth the hike. But there is nothing big to see really at any point. Mostly through the forest, which is nice, but there are a lot better hikes in Colorado. It is nice to be by the water most of the hike and hear that. I was one of maybe 2 people on the trail without a dog. Great trail for dogs as it is not too steep and mostly gradual up and down. No dangerous spots for them either.

East trailhead Castle Trail up long switchbacks to Walker Ruins & Summer White Hse (great views west!) return Down Turkey Trot Trail north facing sections icey slush. 8am start, not too crowded mid week.Windy, layer up, gloves & ears. CMCDan,Nov 2 ,2018.

Great views and very rewarding. Highly trafficked, and there was some shattered glass on the trail that we picked up to prevent injuries to pups on the trail. I also wouldn't rate this as hard, more of a moderate difficulty. The elevation gain is very gradual.

Hiked 10/29/2018 Castle Trail up to the Presidents Summer House. Beautiful views. Not too busy. Perfect weather and views. Easy to moderate. Great trail while acclimating to the altitude.

Apex is incredibly rocky. Enchanted forest is super steep with many inclines. The trail has so many grooves from bikes that it is never flat. I would not rate this a moderate. This is definitely a hard hike! Overall, not my kind of hike at all. I ended up turning around about 2.5 mi in because I wasn’t feeling it. I won’t do this one again. There are much better forest hikes for hikers. If you’re looking for forest I don’t recommend this.

I took Chavez to Beaver Brook. Overall this was a very enjoyable hike. Tons of forest, good inclines and declines. Most of the trail runs along the brook which is so incredibly soothing to listen to. There are parts that are very narrow where you are walking on rocks along a narrow and steep edge, but I thought that was super fun. I went on Monday and it was very quiet. Passed a few hikers, but was mostly alone. It was very relaxing and I will definitely do this hike again. 10/10 recommend!

Beautiful hike!!

beautiful moderately strenuous trail. went on Sat. not too crowded

Taxing uphill and downhill, steep trail! About a mile in, ya really start to feel it in your knees haha. Awesome challenge and an amazing lower body workout! :)

Beautiful hike, follows a creek most of the way which is nice. We went Chavez to beaver brook, challenging at some spots with a lot of up hill, especially towards the end. Some cool spots you can climb up to get good mountain views. Went on a Saturday (10/20) and it was pretty busy but not horrible

Very little cover, I would say 80% of the trail is open. Great trail, moderate to hard difficulty is accurate. Lots of boulders, up hill climbs and downward sliding. But it was fun. My six month old little yorkie made it and she had some much fun as well.

Steep uphill climb for the first half if you're coming form Morrison, but lots of switchbacks makes it easy. Once you're at the top, you'll get an awesome view of Denver and Red Rocks. We also saw tons of wildlife. Lots of options for castle and trail exploring, too. Really good place to take someone new to hiking or visiting the area because you can stay up there for hours or come down if they're not feelin' it. Get ice cream in Morrison after!

Hiked it today with our dog starting from the Applewood side. Street parking only so we parked a couple blocks down from the east trailhead. Good rocky incline that's not too difficult then everything flattens out on top of the mesa. Wide open trail up top, nice and easy hike.

Beautiful forested hike with moderate elevation gain. Easy access off I-70. Nice features and scenery including several small stream crossings, tilted metamorphic rock outcrops, and a nice mix of aspens and evergreens. Always a good hike, very tranquil.

Well marked, well maintained trails. Some nice views and interesting ruins. A lot of side trails near the top, so you can make it a bit longer. Not too much elevation gain; kind of a mild trail. Not crowded this morning (Tuesday).

Beautiful hike! Not many high-peaks in view, but at least 8 or 9 stream crossings! Love the varied terrain and well-marked trail. We went CCW and enjoyed the rocks/scrambles. This would be gorgeous in September with the changing of the leaves as there were quite a few aspen trees. Great parking lot with many spaces and pit toilets. I can see that this trail would be great year-round.

Not keen with going down hill first, nice a shady for sunny day hikes.

Great moderate trail very close to the city. Directional for mountain bikers on odd days which makes it much easier to share. Lots of dog lovers but all dogs on a leash. Grubsteak section is more wooded and better for heat of the day. Rest of Trail is fairly exposed so bring a hat even on cooler days. I will definitely do this one again.

Excellent mild hike. Good for groups of differing levels and capabilities. Parking was crowded on a Sunday afternoon.

Very fun and routy

Great views. Brought my 13, 11 & 6 year old. A bit long for them but they made it. Beautiful hike

Easy hike with cool dinosaur and animal tracks and fossils. Trail is alongside the road, and it can be crowded.

Starts out in a neighborhood. You don’t really lose the highway sounds during this hike. No shade along the trail. It gets a nice view of Golden, and is good for when you want a quick hike close to Denver. Nothing spectacular.

Easy fun hike! The neighbors in the area are super friendly.
