To Hike Map

This trail is not easy for sure, there were parts that were very muddy and nearly washed out. Careful where you step else you could slide down the mountain. Totally worth the risk however, the further you go the better the views. Still snow on the ground in March, one of the most beautiful hikes I've encountered yet. Another downfall would be the sound of gun fire from below, but if you can block out the noise this can be a relatively peaceful hike.

One of my favorite short hikes. The falls and pool are beauriful. Be sure to go when the runoff is at its peak.

Easy hike, and very beautiful. Went yesterday and got there at 6am, only saw a small group of people as we got back to our car. I recommend going early to beat the crowd. Quite a bit of snow still on the ground, but I managed to go through easily with a pair of nikes.

Good hike for conditioning and to work on elevation gain. Went on a clear day so the view was decent at the top. Took the Trout Creek Trail out and back, did not bother with the road hiking. There are plenty of rhododendrons along the trail which I'm sure will look amazing when they bloom. Snow at the top is melting making it a little tricky in the decent.

My all time favorite hike. But it has gotten so crowded in recent years. I visited here just weeks before the fire closed it in 2017.

Very sad. But can’t wait for it to reopen.

Awesome views!
For being so far west, the large meadow system atop horse rock ridge offers stunning views of high cascade peaks that will surprise most visitors.

Beautiful, short hike over packed snow. Family friendly and definitely worth it. Expect snow until mid March.

Was a fun little hike, some snow on the trail still but made for a pretty day!

Awesome hike. Soft on your feet and beautiful trees. The view of the pool is incredible from above. Really cold water. Heavy trafficked trail

All up hill but it's an excellent hike! You can walk behind the fall and keep going up to the top!! Great little hike!

Beautiful falls and good hike. But it is not an easy hike, as the ratings say. I would say moderate to strenuous.

Absolutely beautiful!!!!!

Easy hike, even with the loop it's a little less than 5 miles. I took my almost 5-year-old twins and they did the hike without breaking a sweat. I would definitely recommend doing the loop. I try to go a few times a month as it is a decent little workout if you walk fast.

This hike was AMAZING! Honestly, one of my favorite hikes I’ve ever been on. You start in wooded beauty then break out into a mountainside meadow. The views were breathtaking. The low traffic made for a perfect, relaxing Saturday afternoon with the pups. Easy trail for dogs. My pups enjoyed the freedom of low traffic and being able to explore off leash. Through the duration of the hike, I only saw one other couple on the trail. It was perfect serenity.

AMAZING views!! We did this hike 2/15/18 and There was snow! It was slippery at parts, and steep but well worth it. Once you get to the research building go down the road to see another amazing view. That’s was as far as we went but I’m sure you could follow that road for more adventures.

great hike, AMAZING views!! not too difficult, just a few steep areas. highly recommended!

Great place to hike when it's not to crowded

Fun place for trail running

my very first trail in Oregon

Lovely day for a hike. There were a lot of cars at the trailhead, but did not see too many of the occupants on the trails. Would love to have a better map tho. Will try the Santiam National Forest office to see if they have one. The trails that intersect and wander off led us to a stretch of "private property" per a hiker who rents from the owner told us as she, her companion and dogs were coming from the opposite direction. Definitely want to explore some more.

great workout! We hiked up Rooster Rock trail & down Trout creek trail (took 2 cars as we hate road hiking). the view was amazing and so was the weather!

Great trail, great workout!! Snow free.

This trail has such amazing views of the Valley! Tricky to find- but once you do find it- you will be so glad you did.

This is a beautiful hike. Beautiful scenery and the waterfalls are amazing. Must see.

Wonderful hike! A little muddy but still enjoyable. However, I almost missed the pool! If you reach a sign that says “does not loop around” you’ve gone too far.

Great trail! Views are fantastic... the only negative was all the shooting that could be heard in the valley below.

Amazing views of the cascades and the valley. Felt at one with the universe out here.

Tough hike due to the steep elevation gain, but you get a great workout and the view from the top is beautiful.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FoRWNf0J9I

We had a fun time adventuring around on this hike! If you focus on the points on the map that say they are Falls and not campgrounds then you actually end up seeing two large Falls: Shellberg and Stassel. We walked to shellberg Falls and then turned around and headed in the direction of Stassel Falls. Be careful to pay attention to the trails because the trail to Stassel is not marked on this app but if you head in the direction that it is marked on this map you should find a fairly easy trail that is slightly overgrown but it leads directly to the falls and they are beautiful. We will be back again.
