We took the left fork to start the loop and really the view walking up the valley paralleling the stream...

Was not expecting the beauty of that waterfall! The rest of the hike is easy getting there, but when you start that descent to the falls it’s a whole other story. The ropes are useful, definitely take advantage of them. There were quite a few people on the trail including families with children, not a trail for all kids-those kids were beasts! The falls were well worth the heavy breathing!

This place has an incredibly gorgeous waterfall called Looking Glass Falls and mild rock climbing if you want to get closer to the waterfall. And not far from there is Sliding Rock, which is also a waterfall but different in that you can actually slide down the whole thing like you would a water slide at a water park. It's gorgeous. Traffic was minimal, at least when we went it wasn't bad. It was really nice.

Fairly strenuous, though the switchbacks make it manageable. Take water as there’s none up top. The view off the bald face is amazing but do watch your step. Hammock camping on the top is epic.

Nice hike!

Me and my friend had a great time hiking this trail. It was a beautiful day. We’re both a little out of shape but we were able to complete it without much struggle. There’s a lot of great rock formations and the view is amazing

I gave this 3 stars because of the careless dog owners! And the lack of posted leash laws! We have pets and always keep them on a leash! Some people seem to think they are above the rules because it’s a national forest! The rules are posted but in only one place! Not every dog likes every human or other dogs! Two large dogs run up on my little girls with no owner in sight! Not a pretty site! This is really crazy! They could have hurt my dogs or one of us! People need to get with the program or stay home! Forestry people in N.C., you need to enforce your leash laws! Graveyard Feilds has always been one of my favorite places! As of now we will not be returning due to the lack of the lash laws! Some human or their pet is going to end up getting hurt! Remember your dogs aren’t the only pets out there!!! I’m done!

hiked 2-23-18.. start at the left first then turn left at the end and walk to the falls. if you start right you will be climbing up slick mountain bike trail. best to come down the mountain bike section. beautiful trail..takes about 3 hours ..

One of my most fave hikes I have done! Would of been better if my buddy was in better shape. They held me up on pace. But you can actually bring a hammock and pitch it up at the peak and be fully relaxed through the day and have a pic nic too!

Amazing hike. Quite easy with a few uphills. Beautiful waterfall, makes for a great day hike.

Trail is definitely longer than 5.3. more like 6.5 or so miles. The view at the end is worth it.

sweet views at the top. really enjoyed this trail, its a good workout but not long enough to be too challenging tho.

I hiked to Douglas Falls in the snow and it was really a great experience! The water was really moving, too, thanks to some melt and run-off. There was no one else at the falls, which is rare.

Our Trail Life Troop hiked this trail on 1/20/2018. It had snowed a few days earlier and was very nice to see white all around us. The Trail was not hard but the bridges could use an upgrade for crossing over. Walking parallel with Davidson River and seeing icicles from water dripping was God’s gift to us that day. We will camp next to the river on another visit.

It’s a moderate hike in until the end where you have to scramble down a steep hillside to view the falls. Then, scramble back up to the main trail. That part of the hike was certainly not moderate. Someone fortunately tied ropes to the trees to make it easier.

The round trip was 3.2 miles according to my gps/map I posted here. I suspect that the original route was shorter (2.7?) however, it appears that the trail was rerouted long enough ago that the original route was overgrown. I looked for where it may have cut off from the current trail but couldn’t find it.

I was told by a local kayaker who was hiking the trail that the two falls visible from where I scrambled down the ropes were called Sunshine and Rapid Transit. Had I continued further on the main trail I would have come to Gorilla Falls. Maybe next time.

Even in winter, amazing views once you reach the end! Make plenty of time to sit up top and enjoy things.

Linville Gorge is amazing. It is also unforgiving. Be prepared for some of the most beautiful scenery on the east coast but be prepared to earn those views. My favorite hangout in NC.

It was a hard climb, but worth it once you get to the top. A lot of ice still on the trail, so be careful.

Stunning long range views and really cool granite rock formations. One of the best short hikes in the area.

My favorite trail!

Looking Glass trail is a great challenging hike, however you don't get any great views, except on the trail. We made it to the top, had it not been winter one would not have been able to see the surrounding mountains. Plus we met many hikers on the trail, good to see people taking advantage!

It’s a workout. You’ll leave tired. Pretty area.

Great view at the top enjoyed the climb

Spectacular views at the top! Well worth the climb!

My wife and I have now hiked this trail twice in the past few months, and 3 times since we moved to Ashevillle back in 2011. Not too strenuous, and as already mentioned a great view at the top. It was a little muddy in several spots, I assume residual wetness from the snow we got a couple of weeks back.

Mapmyride indicated that this was 7.5 miles round trip, and that seems legit as it was about 1.5 hours to the top, and that speed is consistent with what my wife and I have done in the past for an uphill hike like this.

lots of switchbacks helping to keep the trail not too steep. All in all , a very good workout.
