Kids love the mines at the end of the trail. Great shade on a hot day!
Gets cool at the mines after September.

Beautiful views!!
You can make this hike as easy or hard as you want.

Beautiful trail run!

A great trail took my three kids on it. My youngest (2 y.o.) was able to complete the hike. However, I would caution any family taking a youngster that age, my 2 y.o. was exhausted climbing the steep rocks and wanted to be carried back down the steep rocks (talk about scary). It is kid friendly but I suggest school aged children. I also suggest to avoid when there is snow on the sloped rocks, there was a lot of near falls. All around a beautiful trail!!

One of the most fun trails I've been on so far. Challenging in spots, trail is not always very apparent which is part of the fun. The scenery is amazing. I can't see running this trail for the simple fact that I wouldn't want to miss seeing any of it! But people do run it. Glad I brought trekking poles too. Also saw some big horn sheep on one occasion. Bring binoculars!

Great trail with beautiful views.

Great hike go on to f-1, then up to east edge of Flume canyon great views of canyon and Fruita

One of the most beautiful hikes I’ve trekked in Grand Junction. Pictures don’t do it justice. The end of the trail stops at a massive quartz/mica structure that’s fun to climb around. The hike is also fairly easy. VERY IMPORTANT: this trailhead is NOT in the Colorado National Monument. You can get to this trail by going through the monument, however it’s much easier to follow along monument drive just past the vets office and turn on D road, then turn on Rosevale and drive all the way down Rosevale until you see Little Park Rd, take Little Park Rd to Bangs Canyon trailhead where you will arrive at the Mica Mines trailhead.

11/22/18 Nice trail following a dry creek bed. Can get rocky in some areas. The first waterfall and small ponds were completely frozen

fun trail for the kids and doggie. my 6 year old loved it.

My fav hike to bring newbies to. Super kid & dog friendly. And you get a fun reward at the end!

Breathtaking views throughout the hike. Pretty steep in places.

Did the shorter Wedding Canyon > Lower Monument Trail loop (about 5 miles) and can't wait to go back and explore more. Still pretty warm even when technically the temp wasn't far above 70° but the trail was relatively easy (lots of young families out there). The trail had pretty heavy traffic in spots, so I'll be interested to see if it's as busy on the more challenging trails.

we definitely got lost through here. and I mean LOST! make sure you follow the cairns and stick to the right. we ended up following a seemingly obvious path only to find ourselves climbing over boulders on the edge of a cliff... pretty wicked views though! if we wouldn't have taken that detour, it would have been a super easy and neat walk. highly recommend!

Best hikes ever !

Great hike. Boring beginnings, but once you’re in the canyon, everything is gorgeous. Saw a large herd of sheep. Well marked and easily managed.

10/20/2018 - Hiked the main trail plus the Coke Oven side trail and a bit of the back side of Independence Monument, about 13.5 miles total. Trail and scenery is quite nice and the day was perfectly blue sky, not one cloud to be seen.

A steady climb most of trail. Found a great view of the Grand Valley. Try to depart trailhead early in the morning to spare yourself the exposure to the heat in the summer months. Make sure you hydrate adequately!! All worth it.

Hiked from lower monument via the wedding trail to the upper monument and back. Approx 12 miles round trip. Would highly recommend! Views are incredible, terrain was easily managed by an amateur hiker like me. Start early while it's still cool out (I went 9/16) because it does get pretty warm during day. Bring LOTS of water as well. We did happen to see one big horn sheep too.

Difficult ascending, but absolutely gorgeous when you get up there. Hiking up to black ridge trail takes quite awhile and is serene, especially when flowers are in bloom.

One of the most rewarding hikes in the valley.

Great trail. Lots of shade, gorgeous views. Lizards everywhere. Kid and dog friendly. And the drive out from Junction isn’t super long but you still feel like you’re pretty far out.

Rode Rim Rock Dr from the east entrance to the west entrance, and then finished the 'Tour of the Moon' loop via public roads Broadway, S Broadway and S Camp Rd. The route outside the park is well-signed. Traffic was light on this weekday ride, and the views were awesome. Lights are required due to 3 tunnels.

Nice way to see some of CNM's formations up close. Some shade along the trail but not a ton, so lots of water and starting early are musts in August. Unfortunately, not much wildlife our morning. We started at the upper trailhead and went to Independence Monument (~3.5 miles) before turning around and heading back. Note that this trail is ~12 miles round-trip (upper to lower trailhead or vice versa, then back) and not 6.8 or 10.9 as listed here.

Perfect short hike! Trail was beautiful and really clean/well kept. Just under 3 miles round trip. Took two dogs and felt it was a great hike for dogs.
