Took the longer but easier trail (Lazy Moose), was still a pretty difficult climb with the mud and ice. Lots of switchbacks and a couple of false peaks that make you think you're almost at the top. But the view at the top is absolutely gorgeous and well worth it! Pack a lunch and a sweatshirt for the summit and it's an awesome day hike!

a buddy and I made this climb on 27 Dec 2017. Great hike......I recommend crampons for the decent. The views and silence were amazing.....we also saw some goats near the summit.

Visited Pepper Peak yesterday, Nov 26. Climbed to about 4000 feet and decided to turn back as it was pretty steep and I was out alone. Nonetheless it was a great hike. Used micro spikes until the park bench at 2 miles, then put on my new crampons I bough the day before. Ive never owned a pair, but I wish I had sooner. They were needed for most of the ascent. About halfway up the ridge, the trail becomes exposed in certain areas. Probably won’t be long before it’s completely covered. Will be returning in the spring for sure.

Opted with the "easier" moose mountain trail. Lots of switch backs, great elevation and decently maintained. A little rain the day before made the trail mildly treacherous. Killer veiw and fall hike.

The elevation gain was a killer. However it's totally worth it once you get to the top. Seriously beautiful.

Such a great hike! Pretty steep most of the way up. The first bench is definitely a good stopping point if you aren't in the greatest shape. Otherwise, go to the second bench. And if you're up for a real challenge and want the best view, continue on past the second bench to the mountain peak. It's less of a trail and more of a dirt/rock path but you'll know the way you're going. Such a fun hike with the BEST view at the end. Definitely worth the workout it gives you!

Just took the kids to the first bench. Decent incline, took it slow and steady.

beautiful view of the lake about half way through the trail and even better when you get to the top, beware the trail is pretty steep a lot of the way.

Took Lazy mountain (difficult) trail up and back and round trip was about 3.5 hrs however stopped for about 30 mins to pick a water bottle full of wild blueberries and was moving fairly slow, hiking with my mom. Beautiful views at the top even on a partly cloudy day. Pretty windy and chilly at the top, if hiking in mid to late August or later bring a lightweight hoodie or jacket. Several false summits to rest at after the picnic table. Quite slippery in some spots due to rain the last couple of days. Overall a fun hike!!

Views were great! Attempted the difficult trail and did not make it to the top. Probably best to try on a dry day as coming down was very tricky in the mud and resulted in a few slips. Would totally try it again though

I took the lazy moose trail going up, which is the easier path, and it was still challenging. But the views at the top and along the way are really worth it. You feel like you're on top of the world. Bring lots of water and layers -- it's pretty chilly at the top. Recommend hiking poles, as well. I took the lazy mountain trail going down and it was really slippery due to the rain.

Challenging for a beginner. Definitely worth the next day soreness if you go to the top!

This is a wonderful mellow trail with some elevation gain. Currently, 7/15/17, the trail leads comfortably to the lake (~3mi). At the lake, the trail continues but is very bushy and raw. Enjoy!!

Definitely one of my favorite trails! This trail has worked as a fantastic warm up before meeting up with friends for a more relaxed hike/bike.

Great hike. Beautiful view of the butte! Not too long, definitely faster coming down. Don't let the name deceive you, nothing lazy about it. It's steep. The summit is totally worth it though! Bring lots of water and wear decent shoes! If your in the area I'd definitely check it out.

Lazy Mountain is a tough hike, but well worth the effort. The views are stunning. We took the Lazy Moose trail down the mountain. It was beautiful back there.

Very difficult, steep climb. Worth it once you get to the top. My step tracker counted a 7 mile round trip from bottom to top and back down. Took about 4.5 hours with a good amount of rests. Pace yourself and you'll have a blast!

This was a pretty difficult hike with steep inclines; however, it's all worth it when you reach the top. The view of Eklutna Lake is incredible!

easy-going trail. no animals other than a squirrel

Nice wide trail with a steady climb, but not strenuous. If you are going for the view of the lake I suggest stopping at the first bench. Unless I missed something the second bench was more of a view of mountains. All in all a nice walk in the woods!

So beautiful make sure you bring enough water and maybe a snack for the top!

Great views!

Amazing view of eklutna lake as you get above the tree line. Look for Dall sheep as you turn and hike toward the twin peaks. We saw 15 way off in the distance. Some steep parts but overall not too bad. The trail is well beaten with just a few places with loose rocks.

This was a nice trail, although we had patches of snow! We only went 8 miles because I had kids with me and they could only handle getting to the bridge!

Beautiful view! The trail is a little steep and think on the way up to second bench. Overall, I love it.

great climb to the peak... be careful of those loose rocks though!

this was the best trail I have taken since coming here! go straight up at the first bench if you are up for a challenge and want to get to the peak.
