Trail was in relatively good shape, and the vistas were stellar. Some sections are pretty steep, so be advised.

Beautiful views. We took the fire road up and back. Overall took just under 4 hours with breaks and time at the summit. Very crowded in the parking lot, so make sure you get there early so you don’t have to park on the side of the road and get a ticket as I saw others getting.

Good hike for a day trip. We took the fire road up and down because it was easier. I overpacked and should have only carried extra water snacks/food, and layers of clothes. It took is 3 hours or so up and back. Rested at the top for an hour. Beautiful views from the top. The rest of the route had limited views. I got a parking ticket for parking on the side of the highway since the lot was full ($15 fine). Pretty crowded on the trail.

well maintained trail with easy access from the parking lot. Took about 2 hours each way with minimal difficulty and plenty of photographs. The ridge above the main trail is worth walking. Once you make it to the overlook you won't be disappointed even in foggy conditions!

Loved it! I went for a sunset hike in October during peak foliage and it was beautiful! Lots of pretty scenery and rock formations to climb on. Sunrise would be better because the rock at the top faces east. But still super incredible!

Note: The reviewers that say this hike is easy are probably pretty strong hikers. This hike is not easy if you are not one. That said, it's easy for me.

BUT two good comparison hikes are on Maryland heights. If you struggle to do the lower Maryland heights trail, don't attempt this. The same goes for the upper Maryland heights trail. However if you have a little or no trouble with upper Maryland heights then you can probably do this one but it will be a challenge.

It was brutally cold today for this time of year with a very strong wind.
Lots of people on the trail today that probably shouldn't be. They were either inadequately dressed or struggling to go up the mountain.

Please make sure you know your limits.

hiked up late on Friday. The clouds blocked our view. Camped near Cambell shelter, braved the rain, wind and cold weather and a much better view in the morning.

Didn’t get a chance to do the trail. Cops were ticketing everyone that wasn’t in the parking lot. Going right down the line with tickets. Be careful where you park. Guess I have to find another hike now.

Just did this with my daughter today. Had a ton of fun on this course! Very rocky between Pulpit and Pinnacle so a little slow going at times, but the views are worth it. Definitely need waterproof hiking boots too, as the return leg was quite muddy in spots. The spring on the last leg was flowing really well, so we stopped there to fill up.

A great little day hike. Take a lunch and sit at the pinnacle to enjoy views of hawks hunting over the valley

May be slightly difficult for a beginning. Continuous uphill slope, but it has a nice view at the end with a picnic area. Very rocky (and slippery when wet). Make sure you have good boots!

Beautiful mountain, peaceful and subtle. The trail is marked by white markers on the trees. Lots of rocks and boulders. After walking 3 miles in, we turned back because we didn't see where there would be a loop or a scenic view. Views can be seen past the trees. by 4:45pm, the parking lot was packed with vehicles, I'm assuming to see the sunset? not sure. We entered past the gates bridge.

Breathtaking views! Worth the mud and narrow parts of the trail. Steady hike but could use more trail markings.

The most beautiful view!!

The downsides are that some sections of the trail are basically a fire road. The top is so amazing though; it’s really worth the so-so scenery beforehand. Camping at the top just before the rock is great fun too. The you can get a view of the sunset when the crowds have died down.

I like this hike, a bit long but totally worth it.

The hike itself was fairly easy, and the fall foliage was beautiful. However it was difficult to tell which colored markers to follow in order to stay on the Loudoun heights trail and there weren’t many good view points on the trail itself.

Good hiking boots are a must, there are plenty of rocks that were hidden among the fallen leaves. And the leaves were very slippery on the way down due to the recent rain.

Great hike with an amazing view!! Tough start, but totally worth it. So much fun climbing the rock to get to the end!

Amazing! Definitely a hike that feels as if you are on top of the world ⛰

One of the best hikes I have been on. My wife and I did this one this morning. Weather was perfect. Definitely gets a little strenuous in the last mile to the top. It’s just a slow and steady climb but so worth the view!

Does anyone know if the Fish Hatchery Route is open or if you can hike up the private road?

Amazing view! I recommend going left when at the parking lot toward the cut lawn so that you climb and finish the hike at the upper lookout

Short and easy hike...pretty much a walk. Beautiful Views!

Such a fun trail! Planned this as a surprise date for my boyfriend, who owns a rock climbing facility. Great opportunities for bouldering along this trail! We loved it!!!

These falls were awesome. wooded steps down to platforms made it easy. Wish we couldve walk along the river more.

Beautiful 7.6 mile hike that falls somewhere near moderate difficulty. Parking lot area is on the side of the road, which you must cross to start the hike. Trail follows along next to a fire road most of the way. McAfee Knob is breath taking.

It is a great trail, nice and peaceful.

It was a rainy morning when we went but things had cleared once we arrived. We were able to complete the hike in less than 3 hours, not including our rest at the top. Make sure to start the way up on the regular trail then taking the fire trail down. The trail is a little slippery so hiking boots or sturdy shoes suggested. Great hike and even more amazing views.

Awesome hike. Loved the feeling of using my trekking poles with the rocks on the final section of the top. Really cool view and very good trail, from some of the reviews I was off-putted, however, my girlfriend suggested we still go and I’m glad we did. We went on a Monday and only saw a few people and one person at the top who kindly left for us. We were at the top for about 30 minutes. No one came up. Highly recommend.
