It's my go-to for out-of-towners wanting to go for a hike.

In a mile and a half, you get stream, meadow, woodland, and rocky outcropping. The out of towners get a "hike" experience, without anyone getting too winded.

Then to finish things off, there's places to go eat/drink at 5-10 min drive up or down the canyon.

Loved it! Dogs were exhausted!

Kind of a crazy day today- winds reached up to 90 mph in the Denver area, and even in Estes the winds were blowing pretty bad (although not quite THAT bad). When we started off the hike, it was sunny and blue skies, with only a few clouds. By the time we got to the lake there were snow pellets slapping against our faces and we had to cover our faces as much as we could on the way down so we could see where we were going. We got pretty cold and wet, but the hike was worth it. Can’t wait to do this again in the summer!

Most of the hike was without wind except the top of the mountain. Wonderful hike! I agree with the previous review, this hike is a gem!

I loved all the different colors and scenery on this hike. Lots of different plants and flowers. The beginning of the trail was probably the hardest and strongest incline, after that it's fairly flat. There was some snow when I went and certain areas were kinda slippery so be mindful of the weather. Beautiful trail.

Decent short hike to a great view! Too many peope.

The trail was, for me, steep in a lot of places. I just took it slow (I'm not accustomed to the altitude), and was rewarded with fabulous views on the way up, and a nice little lake at the top.

A gem with a short hike! A short drive from Denver but it felt as if you were deep in the mountains with an amazing 360 view. The steep incline makes it a challenging hike but definitely worth it.

Such a workout !!! If doing in summer bring a hat, there is limited shade here. Steep and slippery incline at the beginning of the trail with about 2 false views. Once past that then it’s moderate hiking until you reach the scramble. Get on all fours and finish to the top ! Be careful going down..... that was the worst part for all of us.

Nice high-moderate hike. Good views. Decent number of bikes on the trail.

Trekking Poles , next time for sure !

Good gradual incline! Great views and not very heavy traffic!

Crowded today. Steady hike up to the ruins. The views were good. I guess one can easily be spoiled by Colorado's other scenic vistas, but neat none the less if this is your first time. Patches of snow and ice on the trail; quickly melted by the afternoon.

This trail was great!! The views were amazing. The only downside was the wind at the top of the mountain. My husband and I were able to set up our hammocks at the top and eat lunch though - it was wonderful! I highly recommend!

Nice that it’s so close to Denver yet you can experience some good elevation—it’s a workout for sure. The trail gets quite rocky near the top and requires some scrambling but the views are fantastic!

Great hike for a workout. The first 1/3 is pretty steep. It is not as bad after that, but still uphill. Would be a great trail to train on. Really nice views as well.

Today, 4/08/18, I needed something to do. After doing some homework. Bierstadt it was. Being from Minnesota, hiking ...lets just say the mountains are a different beast. After reading numerous reviews here: my 4 year old had his first summit to the dogs and 100's...and 100's of people to contend with..well, didnt sound too challenging. But, I did read a few well written reviews to go prepared.
Not nearly for what I was about to face.
left late...really late from F.Collins (2:30pm) arrived at what was apparently the Silver Dollar parking lot as the road to the Guanella pass summit was still closed for the season...my homework skills need honing. talked to a guy there that was going to do some skiing and he thought the trailhead to Bierstadt would be a couple of miles. lucky I brought my winter gear including Sorrels, ski mask and micro spikes. headed up the hill at about 4pm. didnt need the spikes but postholed more than a few times but not bad. An hour later I was at the trailhead. Id say the wind was 40+ and the temp around 0. I knew a front was coming in but looking off to the west it seemed to be coming a good couple of hours early. I was alone and the only soul I had seen was a couple skiing down right as I set off...I really wished I had that idea..I need to think this over, if only I could get in the outhouse - frozen halfway shut and buried in snow. I get it open and have a seat. I decide to at least go a bit before turning back. I see what appears to be the start of the trail by the marker and another marker some 30 yards out. Off I go...postholing it every step. Wow..where are the snowshoes... (even those didnt seem to help one reviewer and his friends) Anyways, I realize Im out of my league here and want to see another day so after 20 or so yards of this I turn back down the mountain thinking of those skiers. Once back to my car the Blizzard hits with full force and Im out of there. I have to say..the whole experience - including the solitude and the views walking back down were soooo worth it!!!

What a view! What a view! A short little trail up to the top. Up the north side down the south! Once you get on top it’s time to send a Peaker! There’s a great rock spot that gives you a 360 view of the Rocky’s! Oh boy! We sat for about an hour or so a peaked up two cones and a peakerwood! I would forsure come back for the views brah!

Peak level.. 8.3/10

An easy trail with unnecessary switchbacks rendering it even easier. Short and quick.

Beware of crazy dog on leash! It will bite.

Now for the trails. Fantastic views. I’d say the best trail for running would hands down be red Mesa loop. Lots of dogs beware.

It’s neat once you get to the top. There are a ton of trails you can catch. Lots of mountain bikers, but it’s a wider trail and there’s room for all. There was some mud yesterday, but no ice or snow.

Amazing hike great views, but a lot of bicycles in the week, bring sunblock and a lot of water.

Hiked today 4/5/18. Great weather and well maintained trials. The lake was half froze over and lots of people enjoying the views along the way. Only have been to Estes Park / RMNP 3 times and next to dream lake hike this is my 2nd favorite so far!

Very light traffic. Recommends long sleeves and full pants. Sunrise is little relief. Good for morning workouts but definitely not a worthy hike

this is a good hike. not too busy and friendly people. hike on!!!

Trail was dry. Physically demanding but the vegetation and views left something to be desired. This might improve as flowers start to bloom. very light traffic. Recommend wearing long pants and sleeves. The brush is stiff and overgrown.

It was very beautiful, but I have trouble breathing in high altitudes. I would defiantly recommend it. It was really hard, but I persevered and when I got to the top, it was breathtaking!

Awesome elevation training right by town!!!

Did it last week and it was great! Definitely had to stop for breaks at a few points- took the north trail up and south trail down. Few icy spots- boots were fine, especially w pup to hurry me up. View at the top is amazing with few people. Quick and easy:

not exactly easy going up because there was no flat area. going up was a bit challenging. the trail was beautiful; covered in a fresh snow. lots of unleashed dogs running around and pushed me. almost fell because of that. it was windy too, but a good trail overall.
