Below 8 mile lake the fire damage is about 6 years old. Beyond the base of the lake the fire damage is from 2017. Not worth exploring much past the lake. Ground is mostly ash and trees are nearly all burned up. If you can, find another trail without fire damage and save this one for 15 years from now.

Great hike and beautiful! Pretty easy and mostly flat.

The bugs were insane. Little guy got tired and we were tired of swatting the mosquitos so we did not complete the loop. Will definitely try again when it’s cooler and we can wear more layers.

Incredible views! We went on a Sunday morning and only saw two other people hiking the trail. It’s a short trail but straight uphill. The lookout was open and staffed with volunteers. The road up was well maintained. Definitely worthwhile!

We hiked this on Aug 3rd 2018, a group of 7, Gorgeous day, great weather, and after reading the reviews took advice about bug spray and had zero issues. Definitely a must if you are in the Leavenworth area and want to go on a hike. Incline was just enough for our non hiking friends that joined us to still have a good time. My gps read 10.3 round trip, but we hiked to the big rock on lake and had lunch.

on Lake Stuart Trail

Arrived by 7:30 and main lot full, parking 1/4 mile away. Trail had steady traffic until split with Colchuck (2.2 Miles). From Colchuck / Stuart split To Lake Stuart did see another person until 1/4 mile before Lake Stuart. Lots of people going to Colchuck. Bugs were minimal. First 2.2 Miles of trail to Stuart/Colchuck split is steady incline, next .mile is pretty flat with awesome picture once you get to open meadow. Next .6 miles incline, last .6 Miles incline and flat. Walk around the lake (heavy trees and vegetation) to locate a nice rock to sit on for lunch. About 4::15 total trail time (with a few breaks). Recommend this trail to practice before you try Colchuck.

awesome hike, beautiful views, not very challenging. i will do this hike again

Did this hike with a friend and it was a gorgeous hike. It’s a gradual incline up the mountain and you can cool off in the lake above. We saw lots of lovely wildflowers, small forest animals, and cutthroat fish jumping for insects. This hike is definitely one to check off your list if you’re partial to the Alpine Wilderness.

Beautiful Lake! Loved this trail! Arrived at trail head by 8 A.M. and no parking left! Trail is SO busy! Some bugs but very little compared to other trails.

We really enjoyed this hike! We did this hike with our 4 year old 5 days ago, we felt like we took a wrong turn but we finally got to the trailhead at 9 am where there were a handful of cars. Since it’s a loop we let our son pick which way he chose left. It was nice and easy lots of birds and chipmunks and plant life to discuss keeping the little guy busy. Plenty of places to break for snacks and dip your toes in the river. There’s a great swimming hole at Rock Island campground with a vault toilet and water fountain about 2/3 way around(if you go left) It was hot and a good 1/3 of the hike was not shaded which is why we went early. All in all I highly recommend and the full parking lot when we got back tells I’m not the only one!

Loved this hike! Saw a few other hikers/families. Found the cave at the end of the trail! If you're into Geo caching this is a great spot! Very picturesque!!Easy hike!

Beautiful views on this easy trail. You can even easily go off roading and down to the water for some really incredible views. The only thing is, the road leading up to the parking lot for the trail! For about a mile and a half you’re just on gravel dirt road and my small little car did not appreciate it.

we got the early, plenty of parking then but when leaving it was really full. The hike was beautiful and not many people.

Very beautiful but more difficult than ‘moderate’ in my opinion. Wear bug spray!

My friend and I hiked the trail today, July 21st, 2018. It was a great hike and I was tired afterwards that’s for sure. I wasn’t impressed with all the cars on the trailhead, I would estimate 200-300 cars. 99% from the west side of WA or out of state :( We had a 1/4-1/2 mile hike to just the trail head. Traffic on the trail was moderate but lake Stuart was beautiful and wasn’t as packed as Colchuck. I’d do it again but I’d put bug spray on at the start, it’s a must!

Absolutely beautiful trail, especially when Mt Stuart pokes it’s head above the trees! The bugs were really bad above the trail split, but got worse as we got into the afternoon. If you’re going to do this one start before 10! Had no difficulty taking my parents up the trail, it seemed much longer than 9 miles though.

Beautiful trail with lots of short branch offs that give amazing views of the water. In a few places along the trail you can actually get in the water. Very easy trail, well worth the trip

Easy hike with lake views and forest trails, good for families with small kids.

Great loop trail, parking lot was a bit busy and the road was a little rough but worth the drive.

Great day to hike even if a bit hot. Black flys kept us moving. Saw a bear along the way and lots of fish jumping in Eight Mile Lake. We didn't explore around the lake long enough to find a great spot to hangout. If we had found one this would be 5-stars.

I really hated this hike. Honestly, I’m giving it an extra star only because my husband actually really like it. You’d have to ask him why, I don’t know. The river is pretty, but you are only hiking next to it for part of the hike and can only access it at a few points to cool off. The trail is damn hot. A lot of sun exposure, no breeze, and the ground gets too hot for dog feet in many spots. Bring booties for your dog or be prepared to carry him through these sections. This trail is also very crowded and you hike through a large campground for part of the time which is just so weird. Not for me.

This hike is easily one of my favorites. Red Top lookout is windy! But the trails leading to Agate beds were beautiful and filled with wild flowers blooming. The trails are overgrown in some areas but I think that's from the lack of hikers the trail has seen this year. Definitely a dog friendly hike.

Beautiful views all around. Heavily trafficked. Very easy hike, good for families, groups, and dogs.

Beautiful, easy walk along the river with some educational placards placed along the trail. Bumpy gravel road to get to the TH. Only drawback was the mosquitos. Spray down with bug spray before you leave home cause they are on you the moment you open your car door in the parking lot.

Great trail for dogs and people
