So beautiful! Me and my family went there today. Very confusing at first to find where to start the trail . But once you find it there are pink/orange tape markers to guide your way. Very muddy and some parts a little difficult to navigate. The terrain is rocky/muddy. Wear waterproof boots. You have to cross the stream multiple times before you get to the falls. There are multiple routes that you’ll see as you’re hiking the trail. For instance on the way up we took one route and coming down we took an easier way. The falls are beautiful. I highly recommend this trail! Happy hiking!

It’s pretty fun, and the falls is worth the trip. A couple beautiful spots for photos along the way. It’s totally muddy, but so is everything!!!!

Definitely pack enough water and snacks.
The parking and facilities are excellent.
The hike is just beautiful!
Trekking poles helped a lot!

It took almost 10 hours from the start to end of the trail and back to the start.

Check Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club hike schedule for the next Waimano Ridge hike. The trail will be somewhat cleared after they hiked it.

The other two hikes with similiar end view are Manana Ridge Trail and Waiau. Waiau is probably the most difficult. Another possible hike is via Waimalu Ditch but it is very overgrown.

Beautiful trail, reasonably interesting and moderately challenging (any trail I can hike in my swimsuit is not hard...). Would give it 5 but it was somewhat crowded with teens playing music loud enough you couldn’t ignore it (bah I’m old and want to hear the nature)

11/12/2018-Started around 0745 and came across 3 groups of people. Weather was overcast and drizzled on us a little on the way back. Unfortunately, we only made it about halfway through the trail before having to turn back because of all the overgrowth (trail definitely isn’t maintained on a regular basis); grasses were easily 6’ tall along the narrow trail path.

Short but a good workout especially the loop trip. Steep and rutted trail with a lot of traffic. Views from the peak are great. Not much shade, early mornings are best IMO. Plenty of parking. No fee but donations are appreciated.

Kid friendly easy hike to the Kaniakapupu ruins. 10-15 minutes to get to the ruins. Muddy and lots of mosquitoes.

Hike was awesome but when I finished the cops were given out citations at the trailhead said it was illegal and off limits.

A really nice, easy urban-ish walk. Takes you through some of San Diego’s old neighborhoods and canyons. Ends with a stroll through Balboa Park. Nice for a hot Santa Ana day with plenty of availability for shade depending on what side of the street you choose to walk on!

Beautiful trail with some good shade.

I loved this hike! Definitely bring shoes that u dont care for since it will get super muddy. Bring bug spray because there are LOTS of bugs. I got bit everywhere. I’d recommend starting the hike around noon or early afternoon the latest. Make sure u dont stay there when it gets dark because it’s easy to get lost. The waterfall is nice and there’s an area you can jump from. Also, make sure you bring covers for your car and/or extra clothes so you dont get your car ruined or muddy.

It was my first ever hike. Two days ago. Still paying for it:) It was marked pretty well, and incredibly beautiful. Oh ya, and definitely don’t go after a rain. It gets pretty slippery and super muddy.

Trail was a lot of fun. It took me about 3 hours with some stoppage for breaks and pictures! The first mile and a half was pretty standard although expect a lot of incline walking. Once you reach the staircases you’ve got about .75 miles left but it’s mainly uphill from there.

This was my first time hiking this trail and I really didn’t expect to literally be climbing up the side of a mountain. It was a pretty dry day and on the way up I was definitely glad that I had worn hiking boots (a bit of grip) cloud cover came in so it started to rain on my way down and my boots were a godsend!

Beautiful nice and long - and rugged.
Pretty difficult at times, but fun!

Fantastic views. Light showers the day we went so definitely slippery/precarious in spots. Cooled you off though! Rehydrated and rested at the second pillbox for a while to enjoy the amazing views and breezes.

Saw some parents bringing their toddlers, which definitely made me a bit anxious on their behalf.

As others have noted, the ridge does have some drop offs, can get super slippery/muddy when it rains and has ropes in spots to help you climb up. A couple of the ropes look like they’re on their last threads though so test before putting all your weight on those.

the trail itself was very difficult to find and it was quite apparent that many hikers found different ways to get to the falls which were well worth it!

SUCH a pretty terrain. I’d never take a small child to this one because of all of the bluffs but I’d definitely go back

Great hike! Some hills that were a great workout and otherwise a pleasant walk!

This was actually a great site to see but the trailhead in this app is very very misleading. A hidden gem if you can find it!!!

Okay so my husband I went to check out this trail for an easy hike. It was not too hard to find with the instructions of past reviews, we made it out to the ruins quickly but couldn’t seem to find where the trail continued from there. There’s a more open field to the right of the ruins and many areas that could lead to possible continuations of the trail, but we decided to turn back due to us feeling overwhelmingly bad vibes or “juju” as we like to say, as well as hearing what sounded like gun shots and we didn’t want to risk getting lost on out in the middle of the forest. Come to find out, this trail is actually known to be haunted!! Google it!

It was pretty muddy. But if you look past the muddy hike up and then the slippery action movie debacle of getting back down it is worth it. The view at the very top and to see what a sentry would be looking at from a concrete bunker is pretty awesome.

The huge ocean and the ability to look out into nothingness is pretty rad.

Awesome hike! Beautiful views. Worth every drip of sweat 酪

Beautiful hike with a moderate amount of steep sections

great hikers and viewers.

It took us less than 3 hours to complete the trail and we would definitely recommend it. We really enjoyed the views and especially hiking on the ridge of the mountain. The trail is really muddy. It gets a little challenging at some point but not that difficult.

Dog poop galore. Who are these people who don’t pick of their dogs feces. Disgusting.

Wow! This trail is awesome. Dress to get wet. Bring about a camelback’s worth of water. Bring some high calorie snacks. Don’t wear shoes you don’t want saturated in rich brown mud. There are parts of the trail that made me wish I had cleats on my shoes. The lower part of the hike can be pretty hot, but the peaks are relatively cool because of the breeze. If it is overcast or raining then it will feel great, but the mud will be even slicker. Kids can make it to the waterfalls, but they would have to be pretty touch to complete the rest. Safe travels!

Went for sunrise, was raining, dark, and muddy, but cleared right as we got to the top and saw a beautiful sunrise! Definitely worth getting so dirty, hoping to do again soon
