steep, beautiful. no coffee when I went.

Great hike. Beautiful trail and a gorgeous waterfall. To get to trailhead: park - walk all the way to your right where you see a fence. On your left is a place where a hole has been made in the fence. You’ll be on a gravel road. I guess maybe you could take one of the MANY trails that lead off the road but honestly, the easiest way is to follow the gravel road. The road comes to a metal graffiti portajohn thing and the trail starts from there. It was pretty easy to find if you just follow the gravel road.

After that, the trail has a few alternate paths. We followed the pink ties but honestly, you just gotta follow the creek. The bamboo forests were amazing, wasn’t too muddy. Wasn’t too difficult, but definitely a lot of fun. Highly recommend this hike. I almost liked it better than the Maunawili hike.

Easy hike with nice views: Kahana Bay, ancient Hawaiian fishpond. Gonna bring the drone next time

So beautiful! Me and my family went there today. Very confusing at first to find where to start the trail . But once you find it there are pink/orange tape markers to guide your way. Very muddy and some parts a little difficult to navigate. The terrain is rocky/muddy. Wear waterproof boots. You have to cross the stream multiple times before you get to the falls. There are multiple routes that you’ll see as you’re hiking the trail. For instance on the way up we took one route and coming down we took an easier way. The falls are beautiful. I highly recommend this trail! Happy hiking!

nice little hike & you can go on top of the rock -> when you arrive the hole, you can go on the left :)

Great views !

Hike was awesome but when I finished the cops were given out citations at the trailhead said it was illegal and off limits.

the trail itself was very difficult to find and it was quite apparent that many hikers found different ways to get to the falls which were well worth it!

Easy? For all levels? No.
It's a really cool hike through the canopy, up root systems, on bare edges with a fatal drop. Come prepared and be able to climb wet roots, mud, and rocks without putting your faith in used ropes that have been hanging out there for who knows how long. Other than that, Loved it!

it was realy hard for me to follow the trail and got lost several times. Also, there was a dead hog near the entrence to the tunnel and I think that was the reason I missed it. but i would not go in it anyway. the walk around is very slippery.

hey hiking ohau fans. I am looking for people who would like to join me on that. I will be in Ohau from the 8th until 21th of November. Hit me up on Insta @made86made. Would be amazing to meet some nice people and enjoy the hike - Marc

I loved this hike. The view at the top of the ridge was well worth it. BUT. This trail IS and/or can be very difficult. I had a relatively good route up and only slowed down at one part with tree roots and the many stairs toward the top, however I would definitely recommend either shoes with good traction or even hiking boots! The route going down, on the other hand, due to being tired and rain while I was going up.. was very difficult. It got significantly more muddy and slippery. I would not recommend this hike to anyone that does not have experience in hiking or someone looking for a fun hike. It can easily turn into not so fun!

My recommendations:

1. Shoes with traction or hiking boots
2. Lots of water
3. Start early! It gets hot! And it’s not a super quick hike. You’ll wanna get done before sundown.
4. Travel with a buddy! There are some dangerous spots. Always have a bud to be by your side!
5. Positive attitude (it is a bit difficult! Keep your eyes toward the sky!)

Did the hike on 11/1 and it was wet. Rained before and during the hike. The hike up was much easier than the hike down, especially since it was wet. I would recommend the hike to others, but would add caution. The views were worth it, though!

There’s no way the route I took was 0.4 miles. We parked on the side of the road and seemingly went up a very unmarked area of the cliff. VERY steep and a bit terrifying. Once we found the trail, there were a lot of memorials to people that fell off the trail. Amazing views thoughts!

At the falls right now. My boys, 5 and 7, love doing this hike. Love this hike!!!

This was a pretty challenging hike, especially after some solid rainfall in the morning. Would definitely recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes, as a lot of the trail is muddy and wet—as a result it is very slick. The different terrains as you make your way up in elevation is a cool part of this hike. The stairs up to the top were particularly frightening for us, however definitely worth the view. Will admit we did this one on a whim and were a little unprepared in terms of gear, water, and bug spray, but when prepared it is definitely a good one. This was our last of our trip and it sent us out with a bang!

Hiked the ridge after the valley. Total miles - 8.06. Fairly wet and muddy with both hikes. The views atop the ridge are awesome.....from Diamond Head thru Hanauma Bay and Koko head, across Makapu Pt and all the way to the Moks and K-bay.

May ready for the stairs - thanks Sierra club for keeping those maintained.

fairly quick hike, but more of a climb tho! when we were coming down a cop was ticketing a few hikers so we had to run while we had the chance. i recommend that you do this hike at your own risk of getting a citation. it was odd that he was there because normally no cops are. we were lucky that we didn’t get one but you may not.

We loved this hike!!! Would definitely go again!!!

One of my favorite trails of all time, easy as far as distance, but it’s definitely a steep climb. WARNING!!! I went to hike again 10/21/2018 and there was a cop posted at the start ticketing everyone coming down from the top and telling those heading up to turn back! We chatted with him for a while, he’s very nice, but he was firm that the hike was closed and that the state of Hawaii was giving him overtime to stay there over the next few months and ticket anyone who hikes past the signs.

This is a pretty easy, cool trail with many different sections and cool plants. The bamboo forest is really interesting to walk through. It's good to go once or twice for a quick, easy nature hike.

love the hike some parts of the trail are very misleading tho, overall very nice and would do it again

It rained the day before. The trail was extremely muddy and slick. Definitely recommend having good hiking shoes for this trail just for the sake of traction. Lots of roots and big branches you have to duck underneath towards the middle of the hike. The view is amazing. We had a decent breeze. But very humid. Started off around 9 am. It was about 89 degrees when we finished. You just hit these pockets of hot air during the hike. Bring a bottle of water with you. Not sure if I’d do this one again. The view is gorgeous but I personally don’t like this much mud on my hikes. Call me dainty if ya want. Ha.

Protip: make sure to use bug spray. We sprayed before the hike and I still managed about a dozen bites. Imagine if I didn’t have any spray on.

closed? no way. people do this trail every day. it's super easy from the Pali lookout parking lot (bus side)

Beautiful view! This is more of a climb than a hike. There were many shrines where people fell off and died which indicates the safety of this hike

Short but fun hike. The hike is "officially' closed but pass the signs and keep on going like the others. The ascent (and descent) is very steep going up nearly 500-feet in the 0.4-mile. Some amazing 360 views at the top that may be a little intimidating for those afraid of heights. Go to to both main rocky outcroppings. Be warned that there has been some serious injuries and even fatalities on this hike because of the drop offs at the top.

Pretty muddy for the first 1000 yds. After that it dried out. My 10 yr old twins and 7 yr old had a good time.

Amazing view from the top! Be sure to bring hiking shoes and not tennis shoes especially if it’s been rainy. I went and it was extremely muddy but worth the trek to the top

Starts with a bamboo forest with little room on the trail but it's fine. After a 1/4 mile walk you get out of the bamboo and enter the typical Hawaii forest. Beautiful waterfall at the end. There are multiple water crossings and your shoes will get wet. if it's raining be prepared for lots of mud but the hike is very safe even with all mud.
