Awesome short rewarding hike. Did this in January and it can get a bit slick and icy but nothing too dangerous with the wooded terrain. Amazing views at the top, 360 in some places. I'd definitely do this again!

This is one of the best trails. The elevation change is nice. Moderate is accurate even with snow and ice on the trails. Hiking poles were helpful. The trail is very well marked. The views are spectacular regardless of weather. The fog rolling in & out gave a wonderful changing view.

good hike or backpack to the top and camp overnight like we did. better be in good shape to hike this one, nice vertical ascends, some narrow areas plus a few wet areas. take emergency supplies with you if your just hiking, plenty of water, maybe some light first aid. there was only one problem we didn't have enough time to hike more. this is absolutely beautiful you have to see it for yourself. get out and enjoy our state and national parks. we are headed to Colorado next then back to the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains.

Superb uphill hike from Bowlens Creek. Beautiful waterfall scenery at the begining of the hike, midway up you're greeted by a neat flooded mine on the right of the trail, as you ascend the scenery changes from massive trees to smaller evergreens. We hiked in the snow a week ago and it wasn't too hard to navigate. You come out to a spectacular overlook at Celo Knob and continue on the crestoine towards Mt Mitchell from there. The trail is much more narrow on the crest with some rock scrambling here and there (it was very slick and covered in ice when we went) compared to many trails around the area but i personally prefer that on hikes. The winds were blasting over us around 40-50 mph and the Lee side parts of the trail were a relief. This hike is honestly my favorite thus far in the Smokies. Challenging and unique.

Kinda sketchy drive to the waterfall but totally worth it. This is an easy and short trail. Was completely empty when we visited. The view is espectacular and you might be tempted to jump off the water fall. Please do not do that read the signs there have been fatal accidents at this location. Enjoy the view enjoy the sounds that should be enough !!

One of my favorite trails. Very good workout, great views and you're alongside the creek half of the time! Just note that it is a LOT harder going one way than the other, as on one side of Stone Mountain the ascent is very steep with a lot of stairs and on the other it is more gradual. Once you reach the split, if you go left it takes you by the waterfall first but then you've got the stairs up the side of Stone Mountain. Going right is the easier ascent up Stone Mountain and the waterfall will be at the end.

Wonderful place! You can swim, fish, hike and more. I definitely recommend this place.

Lots and I mean lots of steps but the view at the top is beautiful and definitely worth it. We loved the tower!

Brp still closed, but the walk there wasn't so bad from the barricaded gate. Nothing crazy hard, if I can do it, anyone can do it! My first ever view of a waterfall, very pretty for a first timer

Great place to take the family for hiking, fishing or just having a picnic.

I would give this one 3 starts but I REALLY enjoyed the view from the tower and Balancing Rock was unreal. So those things earned the extra star. But the walk there and back...eh. It’s was nice just because I like to be in the woods.

Great views at the summit
Overnight camping you can experience sunset And sunrises

Nice views of the local area, cool rock. Good little waterfalls. Slippery when wet and crowded.

beautiful hike, a little muddy from the rain but not difficult. hiked with my 9 year old.

This should be on your top 10 list!

Great for people with a desire for a big pay. You will earn the view toward the top but it’s worth it. Can be muddy and slippery so wear proper shoes and take it slow.

well marked, travelled it my a 9 year old

Every time we go to this trail, it’s a new experience and always wonderful. Summer time, it’s beautiful but today absolutely blew my mind. My husky, my 5 year old son, my fiancée and I all highly suggest this trail in any season. It’s a little muddy sometimes but you don’t go hiking when you wanna stay clean!

Very nice fall. Came here on the first of January.

Very busy place but beautiful waterfall.

Jane Bald and Grassy Ridge are phenomenal!

The trail is well marked and easy to follow. the view from the top is really beautiful especially on a clear day. Plus the sound of the water coming from the creek is really refreshing. It is a little bit of a workout but it is worth it.

This was a wonderful trail. As other reviewers stated... go up the left side to avoid the stairs. I would have highly disliked this trail if I had to climb up all those stairs. It was a busy Saturday at the park but this trail was very quiet. A beautiful 360 view from the top. The lookout tower is really cool!

I hiked this trail yesterday morning. I started down at the lower parking lot trailhead and did the entire loop. It was an amazing experience. The views at the summit and the waterfalls was awesome. I saw an abundance of wildlife as well. Great trail!

Hiked this loop with my 2 children about 2 months ago. It was challenging at parts but mainly fun! We started off to the right. Will go then opposite way next time for more of a challenge. The waterfall, views and well marked routes were perfect!

Excellent trail with views pretty much the whole way. Well marked. Very windy at the top but that's to be expected so bring a windbreaker of some type.

Very easy hike

Great hike that has it all! Great views from the top with lots of places to stop off the trail and take it all in! I did find parking at the east parking lot and going to the summit is the way to do this hike! Coming from the other direction to the top, you'll be climbing many narrow steps, much easier going down those narrow steps in my opinion. Seen plenty of people with children and dogs so I do believe it's a hike for the entire family.

Did a portion of this trail before the rain set in. Looking forward to returning and completing the trail! Beautiful wildlife and views.

Really beautiful hike with scenic views, unique landscapes, and history along the way (stop to read the Overmountain Trail info — and read about the Revolutionary War battle of Kings Mountain before you go).

Good camping at Doll Flats and the Overmountain Shelter is a good stop along the way.

Be ready for some elevation!
