A little disjointed of a trail but great water falls. Strassel is not well marked but so worth the side jaunt!!

Hiked this today. Go early because it does get crowded. I started around 9:30am and by the time I got back the parking lot and surrounding areas were full. Some muddy spots, so some area are slippery. Beautiful hike! Once you hit the upper Falls the mist will cool you off.

Great hike. Well groomed. Plenty of views along path. Great stops for having lunch

Beautiful hike! Quite a bit of snow, so hiking boots/snow boots are ideal footwear. Long hike, but falls were worth it!!

It is great for kids.. it was beautiful!.. and I’m going to go back this week to do it again!

Nice quick trail within 30 minutes of Salem. Really is three falls- two you can see from above and the main falls you walk behind and to the pool then continue beyond. My clock said 4.8 miles.

Start at the trailhead and follow the gravel road. After about a mile you come to a small overlook where you can peer at the lower falls from above. There is a staircase and sign leading to the upper falls(about 1/2 mile up the path.) You can take this path to the falls or continue up the road and approach the falls from above.

If you go to the falls first-time Walk behind the falls to the top (this part gets a tiny bit strenuous but is short) and continue up the path. This dumps you back onto the road just below a small camp ground. Turn right on the road away from the campground (downhill) and follow the road back to the parking area. You can also pick up the wooded trail back which crosses the road a couple of times and head back through the woods. This section is marked August Mountain Trail.

To get to the hidden falls- on your way down from the campground follow the road. You will see where the wooded trail crosses the road. Go past this point down the road. On your left will be a small dirt path marked by felled trees. A short walk takes you to the top of the falls, you can clearly hear the water from the path. Return to the road and continue back to the parking area.

Nice hike. Waterfalls are beautiful. Got a few peeks at Mt Hood. Took the northern path on the return, walked through shin deep snow mid April. Shoulda had our gators on with our waterproof boots :). Great hike all around.

Had no idea there was still this much snow and would be so few people. only saw 2 people on the whole trail. had thought this was heavily traveled and never been to the area so went in hiking boots and sneakers. some parts of the trail leading to the lake were a foot or two deep if you step in the wrong spot. up at the lake you might drop 3 or 4. luckily someone had snow shoed before us so we tried to use their tracks but it was very slow going and lots of falling through. very hard to find the trail around the lake, which is still frozen over and covered in snow. it was surprisingly challenging with trekking through such deep snow.

this place was absolutely mind blowing though and so serene without anyone else around. best hike ever.

also note you need to park at snow bowl and walk half a mile on the fairly dangerous highway.

Clearly a cousin to the falls of Silver Falls with the advantage of stairs down to the pool beneath the falls. The walk through the pastures was lovely!

The trail was great! It was muddy like other people said but we live where we live and it didn’t hinder the hike at all. No obstacles on trail and well maintained. So glad this beauty is open! If you want the solitude then take the upper falls hike loop. I had it all to myself this morning and I started late.

This is a somewhat short and easy hike. There were a couple cool bridges and catwalks in front of the two falls on trail offering spectacular views of them. The trail was a bit muddy in spots and had some snow along the edges, but the only difficult part was the stone steps. I decided to do the route in reverse so I hit the stairs on the way down. May be easier to go up the stairs than down. There are some picnic tables and firepits down by the river. You can make a day of it and have some lunch alongside the river in a beautifully green surrounding.

At the second waterfall, explore down to the riverbed. Gorgeous short hike.

LOVED this hike, but make sure you bring LOTS of water with you because it is such a hike! Went twice last summer and plan on going at least once every other week this summer =)

Still closed. We decided to try the trail regardless, but it clearly hasn't been maintained in a while and leads you nowhere. Oh well!

Lots of roots and mud, plus lots of mini slides throughout the trail making it a difficult trek. The incline was steady and the views were beautiful.

We had a great time hiking to the falls today. Weather was perfect, parking full but trails light on people until on our way down in the early afternoon. Fun to see so many dogs and their escorts. Only muddy near the water. Falls were full and fabulous!

Went all the way there and saw the parking lot with about 30 cars, stopped and turned right around. Not my kind of hiking I prefer only a couple people on the trail not a crowded zoo. Tuned around and hiked henline mountain trail instead. Much better

My husband and I loved this hike. There are two waterfalls and a well maintained trail. I used my trekking poles for stability in the muddy areas and for grip on the steeper parts. I’m pretty heavy and not in great shape, so I took several quick breaks, but it was very doable and I’m looking forward to going back again soon.

Nice area but was already kind of busy. I can only imagine how it is in summer...

Great hike ( short though ) but fairly easy. Only partially difficult part is the stairs to Royal Terrace Falls which are a bit steep and slippery. The drive isn’t bad at either ( few pot holes here and there )

Visited mid-March. Sunny but cold. Most other trails were closed due to the Eagle Creek Fire. Muddy and some sections are steep. Fairly crowded. Hiked with 10yo and 4yo who completed the loop without complaining. Passed a few folks stopping to catch their breath. Upper and lower falls are beautiful. You'll get a little wet at the bottom of the upper falls. Only complaint is the lack of trail markers. Lots of folks were blazing their own.

To find Stassel falls you can follow Shellburg Road (gravel road) past Lower Shellburg Falls and the trailhead for the Upper Falls. In 4-5 min on your left you will see a trail marker for August Mtn Trail. A short, though muddy, unmarked trail is found soon after on your right toward Stassel Falls.

most of the way is on a fire trail very easy steady climb but the last part of the trail to the upper shellberg falls is short but uneven because of roots and rocks. trail to lower falls is fairly smooth.

3/24 Latourell Falls, beautiful!
Crowded, which I didn't like. However, because it was so muddy most people didn't go far..

Great views, lots of fun-but suuuuper muddy right now

Mini Silver falls! Easy almost two mile hike. I decided to go left at the lower falls and save the stairs till the way back. It might have been easier to hit the stairs first. I thought with the snow on the ground in late March they might be slippery, but weren't. Amazing full falls at this time of year. As I noticed by other pics, that other times the flow is quite a bit less. Must go during melting season. Great hike!

Turned out to be a lot longer then we thought. The trail through the dunes is not marked very well just just keep a eye out for the trail markings. I didn’t record this I forgot to turn it on but it took us about 2hrs. We did this with our 1yr and 5yr old 1yr old in a pack once reaching the beach it seems like forever before you see the trail to start back just be prepared for a work out hiking through the dunes is not a easy task.
