Great hike. We loved it. Took the "more difficult" on the way up and the "difficult" on the way down. It was straight up and a really good workout!

This place gets amazinger and amazinger. Great hike up a steep trail to some beautiful scenery. Views of Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and the Columbia River Gorge. Parking cost $5, so have cash or your smartphone to pay. Restrooms 100’ up from the trailhead. Very dog friendly. Quite a lot of foot traffic for such a difficult trail.

22 April
No snow in the parking lot at the trail head. The trail was packed snow pretty much the whole way to the lake. The East side of the lake the trail was a series of post holes. No snowshoes needed but traction of some sort is really helpful.
I would also be wary of hiking in the afternoon, since some of the slopes will have gotten sun and softened up making them more slippery.
But the lake does provide an amazing view of Mt. Hood.

Great hike. Well groomed. Plenty of views along path. Great stops for having lunch

Hiked 4/20/18...sunny day, a few wildflowers out but the full wildflower bloom is probably a few weeks out. Route: up Dog Mountain Trail, down Augspurger and clocked about 10 miles total.

Had no idea there was still this much snow and would be so few people. only saw 2 people on the whole trail. had thought this was heavily traveled and never been to the area so went in hiking boots and sneakers. some parts of the trail leading to the lake were a foot or two deep if you step in the wrong spot. up at the lake you might drop 3 or 4. luckily someone had snow shoed before us so we tried to use their tracks but it was very slow going and lots of falling through. very hard to find the trail around the lake, which is still frozen over and covered in snow. it was surprisingly challenging with trekking through such deep snow.

this place was absolutely mind blowing though and so serene without anyone else around. best hike ever.

also note you need to park at snow bowl and walk half a mile on the fairly dangerous highway.

Was a decent hike. Be careful driving in, LOTS of deep pot holes. Extremely muddy right now. You’ll approach a small structure you can dry off in or build a fire, pretty cool. Steadily steep hike all the way through. Getting closer to the summit is very steep for sure. Views at the end are breath taking! Just wish the rest of the hike could have been as amazing. No complaints though, I would LOVE to see this place in the summer.

This is a somewhat short and easy hike. There were a couple cool bridges and catwalks in front of the two falls on trail offering spectacular views of them. The trail was a bit muddy in spots and had some snow along the edges, but the only difficult part was the stone steps. I decided to do the route in reverse so I hit the stairs on the way down. May be easier to go up the stairs than down. There are some picnic tables and firepits down by the river. You can make a day of it and have some lunch alongside the river in a beautifully green surrounding.

Steep but rewarding! Nice little hike with some amazing views. Nothing technical though do take your time going up and down some of the rockier/rooted areas. Good distance for the amount of elevation gain!

When reaching the trailhead you have the option of hard or harder, I took the hard path. Awesome hike in spring, lots of flowers blooming and at least when I went the winds were really tame. It’s a quad burner for sure with the incline and maybe not the best if you have any knee issues. Views are awesome, great view of the Oregon side of the gorge. Great for people with energetic dogs that feed off off exercise. All in all a great hike that left me a little sore a couple days after. Be aware that due to last year’s fires, many gorge trails are still closed making hike options limited, might want to get up early.

Did this April second and the flowers are just starting to pop up in some places but nothing crazy yet. Will be returning to repeat this hike in about a month to see all the flowers.

Took the dog mountain shuttle from Skamania Fairgrounds parking lot on Rock Creek Drive. I got the first shuttle out at 730 am. Ride to the trailhead was about 15 min. When u pay your $2 for the shuttle your wristband serves as a hiking permit. When we got there there were several park rangers strictly enforcing the new permit rules. Many were turned away.
I took the “more difficult” segment of dog mountain trail up and Augsberger trail down. Took me 3.5 hrs. I had solitude most of the time with the exception of the top.
Great views of Hood and St. Helens. There were some small yellow flowers up at the top and the lower trees were just starting to bloom. Will have to come back when the wildflowers are in full swing. Beautiful moss laden Forest for most of the hike.

I have completed this long-planned trail today, following Gerard Bonfils's advice provided below - thank you! The trail is really never marked but it also has no forks, so you will not get lost. It is really muddy in some places but it is never impassable. There is a marsh approx 0.1 mi before the shelter, where thousands of frogs were giving their concert - amazing! The view from the summit is certainly gorgeous. In brief, the trail is worth to explore.

Great hike ( short though ) but fairly easy. Only partially difficult part is the stairs to Royal Terrace Falls which are a bit steep and slippery. The drive isn’t bad at either ( few pot holes here and there )

Mini Silver falls! Easy almost two mile hike. I decided to go left at the lower falls and save the stairs till the way back. It might have been easier to hit the stairs first. I thought with the snow on the ground in late March they might be slippery, but weren't. Amazing full falls at this time of year. As I noticed by other pics, that other times the flow is quite a bit less. Must go during melting season. Great hike!

Pretty spectacular views from the top. The trail was a little muddy in some places but overall well kept. Make sure to use AllTrails directions getting to the trailhead otherwise you add a few miles. The hike itself was pretty easy. Incline for the last few miles to the top. Definitely would do it again!

Loved it!! Went today by myself and beat the crowd... not much people during the week, especially early morning!! Took me 1.5 hours to go up there, pretty decent pace. Not too difficult if you're in shape!! I would say moderate for me... Also no more snow! Definitely will be back when it's spring

The most difficult aspect of this trail is that it is a pretty steep incline nearly the entire way. I saw many hikers with trekking poles and I think my knees/ankles would have thanked me if I had brought some. that being said, there aren't many scrambles or spots that require much agility, so the trail is not difficult in that regard. Hiked to the summit yesterday, the snow was melting quickly but still quite slick near the top (spikes would have been useful). Use caution with slick shoes and children in the snow.
It was quite warm and the views were astounding.
I would say this trail is popular but not overcrowded. I do advise going early if you plan to hike on a weekend though.

Great hike! Don't bring your dog unless they're in good shape, ours barely made it down! Apparently we net to get her on a treadmill lol. Fantastic views at the top, definitely a challenge with a ton of steep inclines, the lookout point halfway up was a lifesaver

First trekking this and I loved it! Snow was near the summit but made for a more difficult hike. We loved every second of it. There were parts I was thinking it is really this steep? Definitely would do it again.

Amazing views. I enjoy the 'difficult' trail more than 'more difficult'. There is still snow at the top so wear good shoes and be prepared. Love this one!

Disappointing. The trail is definitely not for the very young, the very old, or anyone with mobility issues. The trails are very steep and not well maintained. It looks like there was cinder/gravel on the trails at one point but in many (most) places that surface has been ground into the dirt and what is on top is really slimy mud. In one steep place we saw before we gave up and turned back there were 3 foot skid marks. Also the "steps" near the upper parking area are not at all what the county park shows on the website. These were made of stones, apparently quite a while ago. The "steps" have broken up and resettled into a very uneven course. In places the next step is more than knee high. At the lower parking lot, there is indeed a waterfall, but there is so much brush in the way that it is not at all visible. We walked downstream a ways to see if there was a point at which it could be viewed and did not find any place where the waterfall was visible. It is really too bad they didn't locate the bridge that crosses the creek 20 feet below the falls instead of 20 feet above the falls. You can see where the water goes over, but no view of the falls proper. The area itself is quite nice. Perhaps the county can find some money for needed maintenance.

We chose a beautiful day to snow shoe. Easy hike.

Forever a favorite hike of mine. I love the intensity and the peacefulness at the summit. I seem to always do this hike when I need a reminder to be grateful for the little things. Gorgeous weather today and so many friendly faces!

This place is nice it's a cute small simple trail that's family friendly we found it randomly while looking for another trail we couldn't find in the area so that was strange lol.
