To Do List Map

Went there recently with my son while the trails were snow covered. A bit challenging due to the ground conditions but worth the hike to see the view from the top. We went up to the Wheel House and plateau and didn’t go to the Fire Tower which was about a mile further hike. We plan on going back in the warmer months and explore more of this areas.

Incredible hike! A little chilly with some brutal wind, but the experience was worthwhile. Be prepared for some serious rock scrambles. My hiking buddy and I were very surprised by the amount of snow still on the top of some of the trails beyond the poplar summit. Made for some challenging conditions on the way to and from the fire tower.

Stairs going up for the greedy people I guess

I’d really like to give a five star to this place, it covers beautiful shoreline trail, cliff over look, fitness hiking trail as well. However, there are few other spots inside but listed as private guided tour only, need to pay additional $10 per head. The Hempstead house, although not under private tour, was kinda restricted, some people were let to go inside and then the door was immediately locked not allowing everyone. Car parking fee is $10 per car and $4 for individual entering without car. Liked the outer setup of learning center, pictures uploaded.

24 inches of snow made this a challenging hike but was fun and not to long to do. With a firetower at the top with some ok views I would recommend

Great view at the peak, would be 5 stars but it's not much of a hike. Stairs on the trail and a road to the top strip it of being a 5 star.

Decent trail, but it's not a real hike. More of a walking trail. Lots of stairs and very close to the Bear Mountain resort. So if you prefer hiking in more remote areas then feel free to skip this one. That said, the view from the peak is decent. Just don't be a cheater and drive to the peak. Hike to the peak. This is All Trails. Not All Roads.

More of a nice walk on a sunny day; not a hike; also not the cleanest or most remote area ... crowded too. BUT the falls make for a great view and photos raising it to two stars

It’s not a difficult hike but can be a long one. There is a lake near the mountain top though it is off the main trail route but worth the detour. This trail is recommended for those who are new into hiking or still developing likings for it.

Hard but rewarding. We didn’t even finish this hike just made it shorter by taking shorter way back, because in the beginning of November it was very cold and windy and because of that it was really hard to climb the rocks

Some pretty good climbing

Amazing day! A little tough for the kids, but they loved it.

First time there, won’t be my last!! Pretty hard at the onset. You will be using all 4s to get up the initial ascent. As others have said it gets easier but don’t let easiER get confused with easy. It wasn’t that hard for me but I see the entire loop being a challenge for many. It’s well worth the effort though so take your time and be careful. See you on the trails!!

Great scramble to start, then it eases up. I like doing this in the colder months. Less people.

Love this hike❤

Hiked on 9/29. Amazing, not too strenuous, short hike with one of the best views above the Hudson.

Quick little hike that was perfect for a dog coming back from an injury. I wouldn’t necessarily call it moderate for an experienced hiker, but the incline would be challenging if a beginner!

pretty good hike with a nice view of the bear mountain bridge and the Hudson river

Cool views but you can drive to the top so it was pretty crowded.

Very scenic trail and great for a long walk.
Not hard at all.

Climb is great but the trail is crowded, littered with bottle caps, glass, and has graffiti in a lot of places that kind of ruins it. Ice makes it very challenging.

Great out and back trail of moderate difficulty. Awesome end viewpoint overlooking the Hudson River and is a great picnic spot. Views along the way can be a little boring. Steep portions for sure! Loses a star only due to its extreme overuse and being out and back....you constantly have to move out of the way to get past people which is distracting from the scenery.

Scramble is an understatement

Difficult but manageable

Great hike but very very icy on the Major Welch portion, be prepared if you come in the winter.

Fun scramble. Not so fun in the ice... slipped and slided down the red trail but worth the nice view. FYI the trail is still open as of 1/20/18. Apparently some delays on the planned close.

A great hike, very strenuous and technical, especially because of the snowy/icy conditions of the day, but views are breathtaking and well worth the effort.
Agility and good physical condition are required in the steep portions, but plenty of easy sections to recover in between.

One of the best trail hike and rock climb I completed with my son Chris the end of 2017. The views of the Hudson River were amazing. As soon as we hit the summit it started snowing which only made the views more spectacular. Will definitely plan another hike there early this year.
