Hiked this trail on Sunday, Jan. 6, at midday. The weather was perfect: about 55 degrees and sunny, no jacket required. This is a great trail. It’s very pet-friendly but dogs must be on a leash. We took the less crowded route that starts in a residential area and it was amazing. The trail, while very rocky in many areas, is very well maintained. Make sure your paying attention to what’s coming up so you don’t trip. There are some steep parts that make not a good first hike, but it is doable by anyone who’s hiked steeper, longer trails. It took an hour to get to the top with stops along the way for photos. I’d do this trail again.

CRAZY MUDDY too slippery to continue had to turn around

Very muddy. I would say it is even unsafe. But on the way back we found shortcut way, we went just uphill through the forest and got to the backyard of one house. It was just next to the main road. I couldn't imagine to go back by this slippery mud. Be careful!

Knocked out this hike today and the conditions were great. It took us about an hour and 35 minutes going all the way back to the hidden falls and about an hour and 10 minutes out. I turned on my Strava app and it logged 3.2 miles in and 2.2 out. I think most of the extra mileage can be attributed to me walking all over the place instead of strictly staying on the “path.” As others have said, there is more than one path at many points, but as long as you stay near the water and follow the occasional cairns and you’ll be fine.

I’d say plan for 3 hours of hiking and about 4-5 miles depending on if you have to backtrack (or zig-zag a lot like we did).

Amazing. Did it with our 1.5 year old in tow so it was a bit harder to maneuver over and under the trees but soooo worth it. Trail is all over the place but just stay by the river and you will see it show up on one side of the other. We hiked in the river a lot of the time. Happy hiking!

Nice trail with wonderful views of LA. Too crowded, though. Get there early to find good parking.

Not a hike, just a lookout. Regardless, still worth a stop! Great views, very peaceful if you go early in the morning to beat crowds.

Snowy but passable for this visiting Wisconsinite. Nice summit views. Warm temps. I only needed a light jacket and headband. I started the route by passing through the ski area and finishing with Baldy Bowl. I only saw three other hikers before summiting. on the way down, I passed many hikers going the other way, easily numbering 50 or more. By the time I finished at 1pm, the parking lot was a mass of humanity, completely full with cars of hikers and skiers.

First winter hike on this trail. Snowed all day long. I like snow covered Mt. Baldy than dry/hot summer hike. Weather is mild even in January here but still need to drive carefully to the trail head when it snows.

2nd time doing this hike & it’s just as breathtaking every time! Very steep downhill climb then right back up it. Very slippery, lots of mud. Saw double rainbows and enjoyed a pleasant mist from the waterfall at the bottom. Wouldn’t take kids or the faint of heart as this trail is extremely steep at some points, prepare to get muddy.

crazy muddy. took three hours in and out with our six year old in tow. This trail isn't dangerous, but its in such poor shape it can hardly be called kid friendly. Sleeping Giant east was far easier because we weren't slogging through mud and crawling over trees the whole time. pass.

Easy hike, mostly flat with little climbing involved. My Fitbit measured it to be 11.3 miles in total. You’ll definitely get wet when crossing the River a few times, so bring water shoes or a change of shoes/socks. Water was up to my ankles in early Jan. Took us about 5 hours in total.

Great easy hike! Well maintained trails. Popular hike for area - lots of people.

The most being sunsets!

Overcrowded. Overrated. And relatively boring most of the hike. A nice workout and a gorgeous wait in line at the top. This hike wouldn’t be so bad if not as many unprepared and rude people hiked it. Go extremely early if you want to enjoy yourself and the nature around you.

Really nice easy hike :) took around 40 minutes to get there. Follow the river you will see a path it almost not muddu a all !! We came back by the " real " trail, was fun too but muddier ;)

Good trail. Too much traffic for me.

Less crowded than the main train, beautiful views.

Loved the trail. Muddy and slippery.

Good hard hike for a nice workout. Did this during summer so I Started at 6 am with my dog and ended at 9/10 am. Start and end with a walk near the lake. Potato chip was a little disappointing and you have to climb up on to get to but still a nice fun hike.

This is my favorite hike to take family and friends from out of town. It’s a nice quick 3 miles and not extremely difficult plus there is a lot less traffic than the main trailhead side.

Try to go early in the morning. You’ll bit the sun and the line to take a photo at the famous potato chip rock.

This is my second time on this hike and is fun and challenging as always. I went with a ton of my family so we kept stopping to take pictures. This trail is definitely a leg killer but if you push yourself you will make it! People need to pick up their dogs crap and throw the bags away! I’m trying to enjoy a nice hike without worrying about stepping in dog crap! It’s also very crowded, but really fun!

上山走了一个半小时,下山1个小时,总长6.1miles, 很累也很爽

Very crowded, kind of boring
