Good climb with camping at the base of the mountain.

Beautiful views! A few rough points that were too steep for our kids (11,8,7) but managed to concur!

Beautiful trail, outside of RMNP gates. First visit 1/13/19 - snow on most of the trail, well packed and well traveled. Sunny skies and warm rocks to relax on. I left my snowshoes in the car - a few slippery spots where crampons would be helpful but not bad. Lake frozen solid. Well maintained trail allowed for trail running on the way down.

Great hike with beautiful views along the way. Steady increase the entire way up. There were all ages and levels of experience doing this hike. As others have mentioned, a few slick spots but I was able to get up and down easily without microspikes.

We were there on 1/9. The trail had some slick spots but we were able to conquer it without microspikes and they probably aren’t needed since most of the trail was dry. The lake was frozen over and absolutely beautiful. Due to the government shut down, the garbage cans at the trailhead had a bag taped over them. The bathrooms were also closed. There is an outhouse near the top, be sure to bring some toilet paper with you!

Hiked at sunset on the 13th, used lights, spikes and pole for safety on the last third due to recent snow. Steady climb all the way with frequent 10-15" step ups, although the trail is well maintained and traversed. It was a cool down hike from a great week for some perfect overlooks on the way up as the Sun set over Estes Park. We went ahead and completed the hike after pictures heading up and the lake was frozen solid as usual. Did some handstands, and headed down. Great cardio hike any day.

Hiked this trail in mid-September. Probably my most favorite trail ever. Well worth the scramble up the waterfall. Spectacular lakes set in a backdrop of towering mountains. And the colors were amazing. Definitely worth the effort to get there. Make sure to take the time to stop and enjoy the many views.

nice hike, mostly dry on 1/6.

Pretty and very quiet hike after getting off the Staunton ranch portion of the trail. Didn’t need spikes, trail was quite easy and marked clearly. Some nice views and beautiful trees throughout. The best views, in my opinion, were on the return route on Scout line trail. Saw several good sized bucks on SR, about half a mile from the trailhead. Did 11 miles total in 4 hrs + a few minutes. Route I took out was trailhead to SR - BE - CR - EF then on the return route: EF - CR - MP - SL (most scenic view portion) - SR to trailhead. Not too bad of a hike.

This is currently open but the parking lot bathrooms are closed due to the government shutdown. There is an outhouse 3/4's the way up. It's uphill the entire way to the lake, there were all ages and abilities making it to the top. Most of the trail was dry/dirt but there were sections that had snow and crampons/spikes were not needed up or the way down. Made it the top in an hour.

Beautiful stroll through the woods. The waterfall was frozen but made it super cool as well!

Road to access trail head was closed about 2 miles out from the trail head.

Did this hike on 12/26/18. We didn’t need snow shoes but did need yaktrax. There were some drifts of snow that were waist deep snow but short and manageable to get through. Didn’t see a single person on our loop but a lot of people heading out when we got back to the parking lot. Absolutely amazing views, I would definitely recommend doing this in winter!!

The waterfall is so beautiful in January. It’s completely frozen and looks like a piece of art with the colors in the rocks above it. I uploaded a picture, check it out.

Love this hike. "Easy" 14er, but great views.

Beautiful hike. Went this morning 12/30/18 and it was perfect. A couple ice patches towards the top (I just wore hiking boots no spikes or snowshoes) and stronger winds but totally worth it!!

Packed snow the last half mile. If I brought my spikes, I'd would have put them on, although most people go without traction and are fine. Lots of people on the trail.

Hiked it during snowfall which was beautiful. Got to walk on the lake as it was frozen solid

Nice and strenuous hike. Uphill all the way to a frozen lake on 12/29. We (me, my wife and kids 12 and 6) started around noon. There were a lot of people hiking. I expected much less considering it was winter. Some areas had snow and were icy but it was a breeze with good snow boots with traction device attached. Expect strong winds throughout and maybe an elk sighting. We were lucky to see one.

Snow and Ice patches towards the top - use caution. Great hike, many gorgeous views along the way. Parking was available around 1:30 PM on a Friday. Somewhat strenuous - it's all uphill to the lake.

One of the highlights of our trip to Estes was driving this road. Fantastic views. Saw two moose about midway through the trail. Be prepared for large ruts and sharp turns. 4WD vehicle with some ground clearance is recommended.

One of our favorite "short" hikes. You are rewarded with the opportunity to scramble on some rock formations above the lake.

One of the best in the park.

My favorite part of this hike was seeing the views of Estes Park. Because my husband and I did on Christmas Day, we had the chance to walk on Gem Lake! (It was frozen).

First real hike for me and my wife (both age 27) and we loved it. Completed it on Christmas Day 2018. The clouds were kind and let us catch great views of Longs Peak and co. Gem Lake itself was frozen solid so it made for a cool experience to carefully walk over it.

This trail is our favorite of all time - so dynamic. From lakes to a smooth ascent over the Divide to the High Lonesome trail and the incredible reward of King Lake, it truly is awe inspiring. We wandered around a bit and ended up closer to 20.0 miles but still completed before sundown. Be sure to bring lots of water and fuel as high lonesome trail is exposed and a long stretch of the hike.

Undeniably one of my favorites in Rocky Mountain. Typically pretty busy trail during the summer, and almost always a line around the waterfall climb, but doesn’t distract from the beauty at the top. One of the most fun hikes for the varying terrain and views.

Did this last summer nice hike could do with out the cars though

Hiked this trail only wearing my micro spikes. Great hike!!! The waterfall wasn't that bad. Windy in some spots but I did most of the hike wearing a long sleeve T shirt. Got on the trail at 10 and the lot was full so we had to drop some of are party and hitch a ride... Took about 8 seconds to get a lift. Great day.
