HikingGreat!

Very easy hike with an epic payoff. The views of the mountains are fantastic and it’s apparently a great area to spot bears. We saw two bears at the entrance! This trail is a must. Very busy though. Recommend visiting early morning or late evening to avoid crowds.

Cold day but a lot less traffic on the trail when it’s colder! Falls are beautiful. Trail is paved but choppy. Easy hike

Trail was great, old asphalt surface makes for pretty easy footing. It’s an incline 95% of the way to the falls, which is great for the return trip.

Destination beautiful! Gets busy by 10 AM ... really busy. Be nice. Pick-up after yourself. Really. This easy hike is well crafted for “non-hikers” and casual sightseers. Potty before you go ... Enjoy!!

So beautiful! My 7 year old rocked it! Gentle climb on the way up- went early (around 8) so wasn’t crowded. Finished at 9:15 and super crowded at the bottom of people starting.

Hiking

If you enjoy hiking for all of the best reasons - getting out in nature, finding peace in the forests, and solitude from the masses - then this “hike” is not for you. We walked to Laurel Falls on a 70 degree Monday afternoon in April. The trail is a cement sidewalk that is crumbling in most places. The falls themselves were actually pretty cool. There was just too many people there to find it enjoyable and there really wasn’t much for peaceful places to enjoy the falls. Also even though there are signs that say “no strollers or wheelchairs” the cement walk way gives some people the confidence to try and wheel their infants to Laurel Falls which just clogs up the trail. Overall, don’t waste your time. There are better waterfalls and areas to explore in The Smokies.

Hiking

This is one of the most popular hikes in the Smokies, and you can usually tell from the parking lot! It was quite busy when I went on a rainy Friday morning in March. The trail is paved but somewhat steep. The falls are really pretty! But be prepared for lots of people and potentially makeshift parking.

Great hike to start the day. We arrived around 9am and had the trail to ourselves most of the way until we were arriving back to the car. Definitely gets busier around 10/11 or so. All of my kids (8,7,4) managed this with ease and loved the falls.

We enjoyed this hike with our three kids (ages 4 to 10). It is a steady upward hike to the falls over an often broken paved walkway. The steepness of the first half of the trails was a bit challenging for our 4 year old, especially because there aren’t good places to rest. Some parts are so narrow (with cliff-like drops on one side) or broken up that it is not ideal for strollers or groups who enjoy spreading out to walk together. There are several really gorgeous scenic views of the mountains higher up on the trail. The falls are BEAUTIFUL, but there isn’t much space to sit and enjoy them (even if there had not been so many other hikers). We visited on a cool, rainy morning and there quite a lot of other people hiking.

It has a significant elevation gain spread out over the 1.3 mile hike up to the falls. the pavement is broken up for the majority of the hike. it would be hard to push a stroller to the falls. It is a very pretty hike and the waterfall is worth the hike. Parking can be a problem, it is a very popular trail. we went after 6pm on a Friday night and the trail was not very busy!

Hiking

An accessible – if congested – intro to GSMNP This is clearly one of the most popular trails in the entire park, and for good reason. It provides an easy uphill stroll to one of the many picturesque waterfalls in the park. The trail is paved for the entire way, although in places the pavement has been worn away by erosion and probably plain old foot traffic, so watch your step. Not a challenging hike by any means, although it is basically uphill the entire way. You will end up sharing the trail with many others, including plenty of families. The waterfall itself was somewhat of a revolving door of photo takers, so you may have to be patient. This is one of three trails on the Tennessee side of the park where parking is at a premium, the others being Alum Cave bluffs and Chimney Tops. So get there early (preferably by 9 a.m. at the latest) in order to beat (most of) the crowds.
