Toilet paper everywhere! Absolutely disgusting. Ruins an otherwise nice hike.

Other reviews capture this quintiessential Colorado hike. Majestic views, turquoise lake, rewarding hike.

Beautiful hike. Hiked it with a 35lb bag to prepare for backpacking in the Cascades which never happened due to all the smoke :(. Parts of the Josephine were blocked due to Bear activity so we took other trails and got a little lost, ending up at Grinnell Lake. We back tracked, in pretty bad moods about have no real view from the valley floor besides the lakes. Sat down at the Grinnell Lake / Grinnell Glacier intersection to eat a snack and next thing you know two adorable little grizzly cubs pop up 5 feet from us! Shaking in our boots we slowly walked away while watching the enormous mama bear disappear into the woods. Afterwards, rejuvenated with energy, we briskly hiked to the glacier and into the most beautiful scenery I may have ever seen. After we reached the glacier view, we did some flips into the glacier water, shivered a lot and hung out with some other guys on top. The way down was another shower of heavenly images forever stored in my pea brain. At the last lake before the parking lot we did a couple more flips off a dock into some beautiful blue lakewater. Probably my favorite hike to date. 15 miles with all the detours, totally worth it IMO

OMG !! This hike is to pretty and worth it !
My favorite hike I do

One of my favorite hikes I've done. I'd say it's more of a moderate / little hard hike. The last part is the gnarliest, long stone steps to the top, and a little scramble up a waterfall before reaching the top. Bring a rain jacket or windbreaker. The wind is pretty crazy.

Gorgeous hike - highly recommend.

Start early and start at GG trailhead..

This was the most beautiful hike I have been on to date. Even though I have read the reviews, I could not really imagine the amount of pristine, huge mountain lakes, streams and waterfalls. I hiked with my 2 teens and we started at noon on Saturday (18th) and came out at 6pm on Sunday (19th). The mosquitoes were hardly a problem. But we did get hit by heavy rain, some thunder (never saw lightning) and low temps. We weren't quite prepared for that and had to camp earlier than expected on Saturday because we didn't have gloves or hats. Otherwise, the weather was perfect. Definitely add this to your "must do" list if you haven't yet hiked it.

One of the most beautiful hikes in the area!

Beautiful hike, not easy but worth the effort. Adding Emerald lake to this hike is recommended, only 1.6 miles extra. Only very crowded at the end at the climb on the falls.

Started at 3pm, plenty of parking available and only a handful of other hikers on the trail...most were returning from the Summit. Really enjoyed the switchbacks and the trail was easy to follow to the Saddle. Took a wrong turn from the Saddle to the Summit. FOLLOW THE STACKED ROCKS! I followed footprints leading me off of the trail onto a pretty steep/cliffy grade. Took a minute for me to backtrack and find the trail again. The view from the Summit was incredible...definitely a must see! And I was surprised to be the only one up there for almost an hour.
The hike back was a fun adventure with a few rain showers, spotting more wildlife (mountain goat/deer) and about 2 hrs of hiking in the dark. The lightning show was breathtaking! Made it back to the parking lot just before 11pm.
Needs for my hike included: Hydrating well before the hike to prevent cramping, sunscreen, sunglasses, an extra layer of clothing for the Summit and after dark, rain poncho, and head lamp. Took up 2L of water (had plenty left over that we gave to a family that was running low) and some snacks to keep my energy up (fruit leather, nut rolls, jerky).
Excited to hike Timp again soon and hope this review helps for any first time Timp hikers.

Such a ludicrously beautiful hike. It will wear you out, but it is worth the time it takes to complete it.

Beautiful and worth the trek. Avid hikers, but 20lb+ of backpack adds a whole new element to it. Arrived at 730p Friday and Hiked 2 miles in the dark. The next day we hiked 16 miles (ended just before Frigid Pass). Last day we finished the remaining. Plowed through it based on time we had. Would have loved a leisurely 4 day backpack, but if can be done in 2 days. DEFINITELY recommend doing it counter clockwise. My guess is everyone wants to ease into it w a gradual climb on day 1, but it’s worth doing Buckskin pass 1st!Pays off later. Low 40s/high 30s at night. No bugs. Had a 1/2 day of relentless rain. Hand warmers were key! Hammock camped both nights, and even with some rain I was a happy camper! Was not overwhelmed by the amount of people on the trail. Surprised there wasn’t more actually. Very rewarding!! But bed feels good now.

$5 permit needed for parking. No issues finding parking at 4pm. Such a fun hike given variety of nature such as little creeks or a fallen tree blocking the path. Best of all is the reward of a beautiful lake at the top!

Awesome trail! Really fun. If you do both Cascade and Porter it's actually 7.8 miles. My 8 year old collie did great and loved the trail. There are steep rocky surfaces so not all dogs may be able to make it, but there were a lot of dogs on the trail doing fine.

Love this hike, definitely a climb but so worth the view. Got up early and did it at sunrise, there was still a layer of fog on the water and the ship-man it made for a beautiful hike. It’s a challenge but a goody. Parking is limited so I recommend getting there early!

Definitely a rewarding hike. I loved it.. by far my favorite place.

Good afternoon hike

The lake is just magical. Must return on a clear day.

Spectular views, mostly well accessible. Bit crowded at the beginning but the further up you get, there will be less people. It gets strenuous at times, but there are enough places to catch your breath and take in the scenery. Parking is difficult if you don’t start early. Bring enough water and snacks.

Lovely hike with plenty of views. At the waterfall I went up instead of across and ended up on a neighboring peak. Still managed to get some good footage. Check out what you are in for here...

Amazing views

Leave early, bring lots of water and don’t bring your dogs. Take your time. This was my first Mountain with high elevation gain and I took it slow. We left at 6 am and got back around 4:40 pm. Beautiful butterflies at the top. The smoke was a bit intense and didn’t let us see far out views but it was still rewarding.

Beautiful trail, with some steep grade but the changing terrain makes it a fun hike. Views are supposed to be good too but the smoke from forest fires prevent it. Delicious huckleberries and blackberries atop were a nice treat too. I would recommend packing something more than a couple pb&js if you plan to spend close to 8 hrs on the hike like we did.
Oh also, we didn’t experience any bugs, I guess due to the smoke from the fires.

Great trail for a couple hour hike. Fun but also a challenge. Great work out. Some type of hiking shoes are best for section A. Does get congested that’s why it lost a star.

Obviously an amazing trek with a pristine view of the valley and miles of Yosemite Park. It is not for the faint, and definitely has some technical terrain, but we'll worth the effort.

Traveling up the cables and down can take time due to a number of people, generally between 11am and 2pm.

Overall, it's a gem of a hike. Train well for it and enjoy the amazing views and vistas.

Phenomenal hike, definitely harder than I thought it would be but totally worth it. Snow Lake was colder but it felt so good to swim in such a clean lake :) View from the top before heading down to the lake is so worth it!!!

beautiful and amazing trail, but there were so many bugs! seriously! everytime we stopped we would get swarmed. besides this it was a quick and hard hike. My group didn't start until about 5 and made it down by 9. The snow was unexpected but pleasant and refreshing to see.

Wow this hike was magical! Had to get off the trail a few times to let elk pass by, the views are incredible the entire hike. I would do this hike again!

must see if you’re near Seward

Porter is hella muddy but still lots of fun! Super dope to see the other hikers over on cascade before making it over there. Our border collie loved climbing the steep rocks

I love how the hike is short, and intense. The view was breathtaking but the bugs were out there and WILD. The majority of the view was covered with smoke from the wild fire but it was still beautiful. I love how for this trial you get 360 view all around you.
