Beautiful hike, mostly uphill going in with a few flat breaks. Reservoirs are lovely. Kids ages 4-7 and grandparents age 60 had a great time.

Great trail. Scenic, very challenging

Great hike. Very beautiful. it was a little hard to find the right path to the trailhead, but once we found it it was great from there. Most of it is shaded. Lots of little streams and waterfalls. Just be sure to bring lots of water!

Great Hike , close to Denver .
loved hiking next to creek all throughout the time.

great cascades, beaver ponds, flowers, birds, meadows

First off-road in our newly acquired Jeep. Pretty easy overall and a good introduction to off-roading.

Nice quiet hike along a creek. Opens into a meadow with nice views. Then the trail continues through a large aspen grove. We went about 2.5 miles and had to turn around due to the time.

Nice Trail keep your eyes on the trail markers pretty easy to lose the trail in several spots. Be prepared for weather. We hit a hail storm on the way back down took shelter in some rocks and trees. The hardest part is the hill to the trail head. You have to park at the bottom of the road and walk the dirt road. Interesting houses along the way though.

Lots of shade, which was perfect for our pug who we brought along. We went just about 2 miles then turned around. The sound of water below was awesome and the view when you get to the open field is beautiful. We arrived at 830am in a Sunday and there were only 2 other cars in the lot. By the time we made our way back we ran into a few small groups of people and the parking lot was full (it is a small parking lot though). I’d suggest getting there early at or before 8 on a weekend if you are looking to be one of the only ones on the trail. But it did not feel overly crowded like some other hikes in the state. It was perfect!

Please note that an emergency ordinance was just issued by the town of Palmer Lake and NO DOGS are allowed on the trail because people could not follow the rules.

beautiful hike, though it was difficult. my GPS put us at .85 miles when we stopped at the roaring river. there we turned back as it started raining. can't wait to do it again and go farther!!

Nice peaceful trail. Hiked on a Thursday morning. Plenty of parking and very few people on trail.
Pros:
-easy access from Hwy 285
-gradual elevation gain
-river and creek crossings
-shade
-aspen groves
-wild flowers
Cons:
-limited vistas

Wonderful hike! My 3 year old made it up to the reservoir but coming back down was a little much. Other than that loved everything about it. Definitely be back!

Went here instead of a trailhead at Brainard Lake due to the traffic and line to get into the rev area parking lot. We ended up doing the 12 mi round trip from this trailhead to the lake. Lightly trafficked. Good trail markings. Dense forest. It got a little dicey when a bad storm hit us... lightning and hail in the forest is pretty intense, especially with a dogger. We ran into a couple of mountain bikers who had varying degrees of courtesy. If you’re avoiding MTB’ers, this trail may not be for you.

Average hike. River and stream. Hot in July.

This trail was great. Lots of shade, you walk along the water, great for dogs. The wildflowers are in full bloom. Make sure to get there early as parking fills up. There is no trash service at the trailhead. Lots of backcountry spots along the trail.

Challenging but very rewarding. I didn’t know you can simply drive to the reservoir. Hiking on roads are not my favorite but did not regret this one.

Beautiful and mostly shaded!
I loved it. There were a few challenging spots for me, but overall a great hike and nothing I couldn’t handle.
The streams, waterfalls and meadow were absolutely stunning

The hike up is hard. Once you get to the second lake - it’s so, so beautiful!!! Go in the early morning.
You’ll see raspberries, wild blue berries and MANY flowers. Police DO patrol the area so follow the rules.

Steady up climb for over a mile, then easy. Nice lake and distance views with some interesting Rick formations. Most of the hike is in the sun but we had a very nice breeze.

Just went yesterday in my STOCK 93 Cherokee. This is a very easy trail that takes you out to a nice roundabout that has a nice hike. The drive itself was super easy and you just need clearance for certain spots, and by that I mean just standard clearance for an SUV. The drive was super nice on the rail and got some nice views of the mtns. It was so much fun I did twice in one day!

good incline, good views.

Great trail lots of shade, sod ground, good for the pups. Get there early short on parking fills up fast

Nice gravel trail, just wish there was more shade.

Beautiful views, first half is primarily switchbacks up a mountain and the 2nd half lands you in a gorgeous meadow before coming out to the reservoir. Truly captures the beauty that Colorado has to offer. GO DO THIS HIKE!

Park at the bottom on the dirt pull off. Cross the road to get to the dirt road. This was honestly longer and more difficult than I expected just to get to the trailhead. Go through the fence, even if it looks like you shouldn’t. There is a waterfall on the left, and follow the blue dots on the trees. The first blue dot is directly past the waterfall above the trailhead sign. There is also a yellow dot on the same tree. Overall, very well marked. Once you get to the next fence, the road splits and you need to follow the right side! Take a snack to reward yourself by the reservoir.

Switzerland trail is a great first trail for anyone. You can drive this road with any vehicle with a little ground clearance. Take the side roads for additional adventures. Pennsylvania Gulch is a lot tougher road. Enjoy!

A very beautiful hike all the way through. Mostly up hill but not that tiring

So Pennsylvania Gulch for my first off road experience ever..., no other vehicles, and at night was quite the challenge. Make sure you have high clearance, good tires, and 4WD Low before you even consider going up that one way trail. There is no turn around area, and if there was, you wouldn’t want to undo all the effort it takes to make it up to the end. What an amazing trail; my favorite of all the ones I did for the first time that same day.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Willy’s Package, long wheel base stock. I’m a BMW guy but after this trip, I understand why Jeep is what it is by my own experience. Baseball cap off to Jeep.

Make sure you drive slow down the paved road at night, animal crossings everywhere. Had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a deer, saved by driving under the speed limit.

One of my favs! Follow through to the Garden of Eden and you won’t be disappointed. We did run into a mama bear and her cubs in the creek through that section on June 26, so keep your pups leashed.
