We started trail just north of Crystal Lake campground. Nice uphill grade and good workout amongst the pines.

very steep but rewarding.

Did it with Fam in July and was awesome....cant wait to do again in better conditions....bring picnic stuff...you will want to sit awhile and enjoy the prize
.

I saw a coyote pup and a rabbit while hiking on the trail. Beautiful views with well maintained dirt roads. Up and down steep hills all along the way. Bring plenty of water - a great trail for running!

A beautiful place to come with the children. They can lead the way and discover the beauty while respecting nature. Just be sure to bring $2 for the parking!

Good hike given the proximity to LA.

best mountain ever

Great hiking trail with multiple hills and great views of the Pacific Ocean. This is our go-to hike near our home in OC.

Nice hike, not difficult and the oasis is cool but loses a star for the horse manure everywhere. And you have to move out of the way when horses need to pass, at times perching up on the edge of the trail. I think riders should be required to have the horse diapers on them so hikers don't have the poop obstacle course and they get to enjoy the stench instead of us... We renamed it Horsesh!t Canyon, ;)

Great refreshing hike. Escape the heat of the desert with a fun tram ride experience.

Beautiful and challenging

Beautiful views! Several spots to set up camp after the ski hut. Only a couple water sources in early July (at ski hut) you can find water/creek information in the town of Mt Baldy at the visitor center entrance.

It truly is one of the most unique and beautiful trails ever. It's a real oasis. When are you going to get to see that!

the start of the trail was a bit troublesome to find. make sure to park in the big parking lot then you will see the sign. about 80% shaded going up. not as windy as i had hoped. put bug repellant. also along the way the trail is more like Mt. Islip rather than The Windy Gap. just kno if u go towards Mt. Islip u will be fine.

Easy but beautiful hike at the aerial tramway.

Enjoyable summer hike on a weekday in June. Left at 8:30 in the morning and only met 5 hikers until reaching the summit. As others suggested, hiking poles are most definitely recommended- I went without. The hike is strenuous particularly the section where the brown trail marking poles are found about one half mile
From the top.

I am a 57 year old in very good condition but not a frequent hiker and not used to the altitude. Great day but challenging. Definitely need very good hiking shoes and highly recommend poles.

Excellent views the whole way up

Is a great work out ! No shades but nice view! ! Highly recommend

Trail start point is 100 yds further down road than maps say. Where it tells you to park isn’t actual trailhead despite a primitive trail being there. Drive to point where another road joins that only goes 20 feet to the right.

We started at Crystal Lake Campground. We had four dogs with us and this was a good intro hike for them. The ascent was a steady uphill with some steep sections and loose shale. The dogs did fine. There are A LOT of small annoying flies near the campground and lower half of the trail. Aside from that, the trail was nice and I would do this hike again.

Excellent signage and awesome views.

Decent hike around Crystal Cove Park - completely unshaded. A nice way to end the hike is to go to Laguna Beach :) There are many rolling hills along the way for a good workout.

I finished this in under 3 hours.

Easy hike with beautiful flowers. There is a pond with turtles, added bonus.

Great conditioning hike going up the BFI with amazing view of Newport Coast and PCH. For an extra challenge, after BFI, go down East Cross Over then up Poles :))

A great workout for hiking

This trail is not that beautiful. I mean...if it’s all you have then fine. But there is no greenery, telephone poles along the route and yes the coast is nice but it’s obstructed by peoples houses!! If you want a long hike to do and not drive far, this is a good choice. But it’s not as beautiful as it’s made out to be. I parked near the baseball field to avoid the $15 parking fee....which also is absolutely ridiculous.

great short 2 mile loop. get there early to have some shaded trail and avoid crowds. Opens at 7:30 year round. summer admission only $5 adults and $3 youth. Beautiful scenery going into the canyon oasis. Ranger said that the falls will probably be pretty much dried up in the next few weeks. Very refreshing to take a dip after the hike in. Be sure to take time in the nature center as there is a lot of historical information.

My husband and I are visiting from Oklahoma and loved hiking this trail! The waterfall was beautiful and so fun to wade in! Highly recommend this trail!

as a beginner, this trail kicked my butt but in a good way. take snacks and water, I wore hiking boots but tennis shoes ok too. the waterfall is stunning, refreshing and a treat.
there is some rock steps incline, so be prepared, but I saw kids, elderly folks doing fine. it does cost 12$ entry, but worth it!

super easy trail, perfect weather. waterfalls are beautiful not much water going thru.

This hike was fun and challenging if you’re a newbie like me! The route we took did have a lot of hikes up hills and my legs were jelly by the time we were done. The scenery, serenity and confidence boosting was all worth it! Absolutely gorgeous to find this gem in OC! Well worth it, don’t bring children on the long hikes and there are in fact rattlesnakes!
