This was such a easy short hike. You walk along the dry river for a bit then take a little trail up into the canyon. a small section of scrambling and climbing for maybe 5 minutes. Just enough to get ur blood pumping then soon enough ur there. the waterfall is beautiful. Lots of large rocks and scenery. It's the perfect area to have a little picnic and relax..

Fun overnighter camping out with the Cougars..

We did this hike in mid-August along with our friend who was prepping for her trek on the JMT. The hike is well maintained, mostly shaded, and meanders up the mountain with a series of switchbacks. I prefer switchbacks to a straight stair-climb up a slope, so I appreciated the winding nature.
Only annoying part is the peak- little shade and LOTS of fitness group meetups that had music blasting and were having push-up competitions on the summit monument. Oh, and the drone guy. Not everyone wants to hear your whirring drone and be in your videos. Enjoy nature, please, and let the others around you enjoy it too!

Overall: nice and slow pace with lots of shade! No water and only pit toilets so bring plenty to drink.

Good hike with a payoff stream to chill at at the top. I love the incline which is hard but not so hard for hat footing becomes an issue.
It’s unfortunate that folks go ghetto and have the urge to paint their crap on rocks or play music so loud that others can hear it 100 yards away.

loved it. definitely not for kids! too many places where they could fall.

You’ll start off walking along the wide dry river rock, but stay to the left side of the valley. It’s about a 25 min walk until to start the trail uphill. It’s not long until you reach the top waterfall, if you can overlook the vast amount of graffiti on the rocks and trees during the hike, it’s a pretty cool site to see the water falling off the side of the cliff running down the wall when you reach the top!

Great experience! Must do!

We started our hike in the morning around 6 and arrived at the village around 1. The hike was beautiful! The water is a beautiful blue or even crystal clear in some parts. We were expecting the water to be in the 70’s but it wasn’t due to the fact that we went in October. If you’re going for perfect weather hiking then go in the earlier or later months. If you want to go when the water is just right go during the hotter months.

Tried to get to this hike this morning via the road from Mecca. The road is still closed at the Coachella Canal Road on 66 Ave/Box Canyon Road. ...I was not sure how to leave a comment without giving a star rating, so gave a 1 star but that is not a rating on the hike itself?

Great view from the top. This trail was a good challenge!

nothing's marked every sign was graffitied over the trail is very rocky and you have a incline all the way to the falls if you go past the first fall and stay to your left there is a second one which is nicer ,the veiws are decent but not sure if we will be going back

esta hermoso lo recomidiendo

Absolutely beautiful hike. Hard and rewarding.

If you have 2WD you can easily make it at least immediately past the green gate in the parking lot there if not maybe a mile further.

I think there's a bit of confusion in the comments here. There are a few trails in the valley. The one going to the Icehouse doesn't pass a waterfall, although you can take alternate routes into the valley. Maybe because it was cooler when I went there weren't many bugs anymore.

Steady incline on loose rocks for about 1.75 miles. Small waterfall at top with small creek. Worth the hike. Took about 45min to get up and 30 min down. Rocks are slick by the waterfall, so plz watch your kids.

well maintained trail with amenities along the hike fire road stroller family friendly dog on leash. Moderate elevation gain great workout.
Plenty parking $7 wknds $5 wkdays on location kiosk. Lots Panoramic Vistas of IE. Plenty of sitting benches along trail. Enjoyed the trail

Did this hike in October with fall temperatures. The rating of hard I believe depends on what time of year you go and what the temperature outside is. For us we started at around 9 am and the weather was perfect. On our way back around noon it was definitely hotter and more strenuous. Bring lots of water and snacks. Very well maintained hike! The rock requires you to make a somewhat questionable jump from one rock to another. Once you do it it’s not so bad. You have to lower yourself with your arms and get your footing on the potato chip rock. To get down I slid down the side of the rock. Overall great hike!

This was a great hike.
Only advice is....be in good cardio shape for this hike, or it will kick your butt!

Arizona’s own piece of paradise ❤️ it is a very tough hike. Mostly the distance. But well worth every ache.

Great hike! Clearly marked, beautiful views, steady climb and well maintained!

It’s very awesome when you reach the top

Box Canyon Road is closed. 10/7/18. There’s no way to get to trail. We went for a different hike in the area. My co-worker said a man went missing on the Ladders hike after the rain storms last week. Not sure when they will be opening the road.

It was great, but nothing special!

Great hike, nice views, not too strenuous and beautiful weather

Awesome experience! I recommend it

It is a 4 when water is in the creek it would be a 5. I would say it is easy to moderate vs just easy. For a first hike for children they definitely need to watch their step.

Very pretty.

Strenuous up hill. So many switchbacks I wanted to quit. 4 hours in we made it to the top! Most satisfying hike I’ve ever done though! The view makes it all worth it!

Great hike. Beautiful with different views that are amazing. Trail is not rocky which I love. Some switch backs but not many. The peak is incredible. It can get windy but we got lucky and it was calm. The tower allows you to see forever views.

Heads up! Box Canyon Road is blocked off due to being washed out.

Really nice hike with a diverse set of landscapes that follows the river, and consists of some light rock scrambling, river crossing, and lovely views. The river crossings are incredibly fun and a great way to keep yourself cool on a hot day. It is possible to prevent your feet from getting wet by walking over rocks, but it can be slippery so I would anticipate getting your shoes wet, even if only slightly. A friend and I decided that it’s a great hike to take visitors from out of town!
