A nice moderate intro to Catskills hiking with an honestly arduous climb to the summit, stunning views, a fire tower to play on, and gothic-like ruins of an abandoned hotel to ponder. Do continue another 1.5 miles to serene Echo Lake for its beauty and hiking variety. The downside: the trail to Overlook is more ho-hum gravel road than true trail (undergoing machine grading when I visited), and trailhead parking can be challenging during busy hiking times.

its is a tough trail going up and going down! yet its beautiful when you reach the top!

amazing views, great hike rock scramble was fun. Get their early or you will park 3 miles down the road.

Did this today with my two kids aged 10 and 13. Had an awesome hike. We forgot to bring water but some nice fellow hikers were kind enough to share with us. Thanks to Louise Hay and positive affirmations (had been listening to Louise in the car to the trailhead and my daughter did affirmations on water literally two minutes before some strangers offered water unprompted).

Amazing view from the top of the fire tower

Trailhead parking off of State Highway 23A is limited—be prepared to walk 1/2 mile from the lower lot along blind curves and small shoulders. Follow the trail from Bastion Falls to the base of Kaaterskill Falls. From there, you can choose to enjoy from below and double back or hike up the stairs to a middle falls viewpoint. Be careful: a kid nearly skipped off the edge (loose rocks, mud, and waterfall spray make it very slippery). Continue up the stairs and through a short forest walk a Spruce Creek bridge. There are two viewing places after that: one fenced off (that many were ignoring to hang their boots over the top of the waterfall ledge—and whose feet are in my photos) and a viewing platform with beautiful views of Kaaterskill High Peak and Roundtop Mountain. Aside from blunt safety ignorances and the crowded parking/trail: I understand why everyone wants their photo in front of the falls. This is one of the few hikes I'd say go later in the day as the falls face West.

Loved! Definitely challenging, but a good challenging.

beautiful at the top you can see for ever

Very pleasant.

Easy trail but so beautiful in the autumn.

excellent hike. walk along road to trail is nerve wracking but is short. initial rock scramble is fun and some challenge. stairs at top are long. I would rate as moderate since involves plenty of rocks, mud, and road. beautiful large trees.

Great walk through pretty forest and along escarpment. Beautiful views. Add the path to the low waterfall towards the end of the walk for some beautiful scenery. This section is busy and can get very slippery. There are also steps to climb done to the falls (183)

Hiked in from Kaaterskill RR trail and hit up the falls before heading to Inspiration Point. Didn’t make it to Boulder Rock this time.

Beautiful view of the waterfall from the begin to the big water fall at the end. The trail walk was easy but make sure to go early so that you get parking space close to the trail since it gets packed and it's right on the highway.

Did this yesterday from Prediger Rd in Platte Cove 09-22-2018. It was a great time took all day and enjoyed the views as well as what people did with the large pieces of stones in one area. Went all the way to the fire tower then on the way back stopped by echo lake

Super easy, go around the lake for a mile.

short hike to reach the falls.

The trail up is pretty bland and boring— not too much to see. It was just gravel all the way up. The top of the fire tower was locked when we went up which was a bummer. If there were no hotel ruins to explore I would say it’s not too worth it. The overlook was nice but I’ve seen better views on top of other mountains.

It’s a nice trail. It was a little over grown in a few areas. Bring bug spray.

Beautiful View. Easy Hike! Make sure to park at Laurel House Road. Be very careful and stay on trails.

Hiked this trail with my husband and two dogs this weekend. This was the first trail we’ve ever taken them on and the path is really even gravel. I think what makes this trail other than the views is the extremely friendly volunteers at the top.

quite boring, same from top to bottom your walking in a washed out dirt road with gravel & stones I rate it eases but bad on your knees won't be back

great hike. not too hard at all. nothing exciting on the trail, just a gravel trail that goes up. once you get to the top the views are beautiful from both the tower and the rock ledge. nothing too crazy but the views are definitely amazing

awesome light hike with a very rewarding view at the fire tower and the overlook just past the fire tower. not to mention the hotel ruins which are very very cool! Bathrooms are at the top as well

Great hike went with a few friends and my pup everyone loved it! Took a dip at the waterfall! Easy trail

Amazing waterfall and great views! Nice place to cool of in the summertime.

My favorite hike. Uphill 99% of the way. Great ruins to explore, the view from the scenic overlook is amazing. The fire tower is not to be missed .
a lot of the trail is washed out from all of the rain this year, but still ok to hike.
Dog friendly. Lots of dogs on the trail.
