The trail is extremely well marked and maintained with very easy terrain, but you’ll need to bathe in insect repentant and wear a beekeeper’s hat to keep your insanity intact. To say this was a very buggy trail is an understatement; I had flies droning in my ears the whole time. On the upside, we heard woodpeckers and saw a box turtle. (8/18)

on Walking Dunes Trail

I love Cape Henlopen, it has to be the coolest place you can camp. Even though its a small state park, you’re right by the beach. So you can camp and walk over the dunes and you’re at the beach in 10mins. Its so peaceful at night with the wind, crickets, and the sound of the waves. And you can always find a camp ground year round.

Beautiful, shady ride through pine trees on a flat trail. Perfect for kids!

trail running

Beautiful but incredibly buggy in July/August. I was bitten even while running. Views of the water are nice alongside heavily wooded tree canopies.

nice trail leads to the beach that alone makes it 5 stars. easy to walk ride or walk your dog.

short trail. Not very scenic unless you like looking at peoples houses. Paying to use the trail is ridicules. $4 for instate $8 for out of state. You are actually paying for parking, but there is nowhere else to park. The alley leading up to the parking is marked no parking. there are better trails near by.

and also add another mile and a half from the end of the gordens pond trail to the center of town in rehobeth. I'm in Cape May and we're on this trail all the time, if you don't have a bike there is a bike rental right at the ferry terminal in lewes, you can find buy one get one free walk-on coupons to the ferry sometimes but if not it's $18 per person round trip, with or without a bike, If the round about distance of 8+ miles, one way from the ferry to rehobeth seems too much just do a day trip to Lewes, just take a right when you get off the boat and go to Lewes, it's about a mile each way, very do-able even for a novice and there are plenty of places to eat, cocktail and shop, a great day trip either way you go! and I'll just throw this in, if you like Mexican you have to eat at Agave in lewes, some of the best mexican food and margaritas ever, anywhere! I kid you not!

it's a great ride! if your coming off the ferry add about a mile and a half to the actual trail distance, very well maintained trails, takes you just about to the main drag in rehobeth,

paddle sports

This particular route is a WATER trail not a land trail! I suggest checking tides and winds as it can be fairly difficult if you are paddling against them. The Shad Landing area itself offers some easy hiking trails, half of which are pet friendly. People looking for longer, pet friendly hikes should check out the Milburn Landing area of Pocomoke River State Park which also has access to the trail head for the Algonquin Cross Country Trail into the Pocomoke State Forest.

Great for nature lovers!

Awesome view and has all skill levels for riding!

Very secluded. Much more than we anticipated. We went on July 6 and the mosquitoes were so horrendous we had to turn back after only .3 miles! The mosquitoes were attacking us even with bug spray and they were also all over the dogs. Very beautiful clear trails perfect for dogs, just not during bug season! Might be nice in fall and winter.

This is a great place to see and great for running. However it is not good for dogs as there are tons of these little spurs that get stuck in the their feet very painful to say the least.

The best mountain biking on the eastern shore. creekside cliff, pee wees, and the lake trail are all fun and flowy. several jumps and drops hidden throughout the park as well!

Nice easy trail with my daughter, yet check yourself for ticks, I ended up picking about 30 off of me the whole trip.

My husband and I just rode this trail 2 times this weekend. We recommend bringing your own bike or renting from Atlantic cycles in Rehobeth for the ride. They have great prices and nice bikes! This trail will definitely give you a nice workout! Beautiful trail!

This is a well marked path that is shared with cyclists too. It goes past several World War II structures and offers a lot of variety in terrain. Don't forget your bug spray!

Fun trail. lots of nature. Will do again but after some maintenance is done on the fallen trees over the path and a bridge is reset for crossing small stream.

This is a really nice trail and probably the best one on the eastern shore side of Maryland. lots of ups and downs, info signs along the way about trees and plants. Little bridges to cross over the water and lots of peace and quiet.

This trail is a great hidden gem in the Bethany Beach area. I discovered it while exploring the area on my hybrid bike. A pleasant, shaded ride through marsh an pine forest with some scenic breaks.

Great spot for birds. Try riding a bike through the driving trails for a good ride.

Nice trail. Very little elevation change. At the Henlopan side, there is a very good raised deck trail, which is almost 1/2 mile long. Saw some birds and a Red Fox! Some benches are placed at various intervals. Do beware on the two observation platforms, there are wooden stops across them. There is an elevation change on both sides. On one of them, this is not obvious.

1st time there...amazing experience with the ponies. Very easy trails for casual 1/2 day hike.

Preferred the other "off rad" trails in the refuge. Plenty birds.

Nice day for casual hiking. Lots of wild life. Beatle infestation has claimed "clumps" pine trees. A spur trail led to the marshes and views of the ponies.

While the birding and views are incredible, the bugs are AWFUL. I expected (and really wanted) more trails but walked along the gravel road for a while, instead. When my dog and I got back to my car, I found 4 ticks on me and over 30 ticks on my dog. I highly suggest just going here for a scenic drive (it is worth going to see), an in-your-car picnic, or make sure you put some oregano or grapefruit and peppermint essential oil on you to repel ticks and mosquitos if you get out to walk around.

Fantastic views and very well marked and maintained trails. Just gorgeous!
