Stunning hike!! Lots of snow but trail had been walked on enough to where it was easy to follow. Signs along trail that also make it very easy to navigate. Ice over the streams that mingle with the trail but the ice was so thick it wasn't an issue at all. The waterfalls were frozen. Words can't describe the beauty!

Great treed trail.

We loved this hike. We did Atalaya Mountain Trail the day before so we used this as a moderate to recover but still get somewhat of a challenge. We hiked in mid May of 2017 and it was snowing on us (and we were in shorts!) We embraced it and had a wonderful hike. The water through the middle is beautiful and when the sun came out around 2pm it was magical.

Park and trail closed on January 5th.

We took this hike just after a big snow storm so it was quite a trudge through a couple of feet of snow. The snow covered trees were beautiful and following the frozen stream was really fun. You have to cross a couple of times but the ice was thick so it didn't cause us any issues. Unfortunately, the falls had frozen and been covered by snow so they weren't much to see at the end of the trail and the last bit is quite a climb so be aware of that. I would love to come back when the snow is gone to see the water and falls throughout the trail. Would highly recommend this trail!

Gorgeous view on the top. Micro spikes might be necessary since ice and snow are widespread on the ground. This is not a challenging trail and highly recommended.

Did a 10 mi. loop that included other lakes. Wild flowers in late July & spectacular views of other peaks could not be better.

Amazing trail with a good variety of foliage (conifers, aspens and even a few apple trees). Enjoy the babbling river the entire way to the falls tucked away into a small canyon.

Attempted this trail 3 weeks ago and the snow was too much. Hip deep at points and the trail is covered. We made it to the top of the first rock scramble and turned back. Will complete this trail in the spring once the snow melts.

PLEASE HELP! this trail looks AMAZING but I was wondering if it is an off roaring trail or do you have to hike it?? If it is an off roaring trail can you get to the top of that ridge in a off road vehicle?
Thanks!

My experience was very much like the review of Anna Borg.

I hiked the trail on October 30, 2018. Didn't see anyone else out on the trail.

Incredible scenery and a great payoff at the end. The lower part of the trail was a little wet and muddy in a few spots, and the last mile or so was covered in snow and ice, but easily passable.

Its snowshoe season!

Did this trail today, 10/27/18, from the slavonia trailhead and loved it! The scenery takes you through tons of aspens (which are still gorgeous bare, but the leaves are gone now), rocky landscapes, lots of river crossings, and WOW that scenery! The last mile up/down to the lake from the largest river crossing is currently icy snow pack mixed with some rocky/muddy terrain, which made our trip take a bit longer and took more energy. Clocked 9.28 miles and 2000+ elevation gain as a heads up as well.

We did this trail as part of a loop (we hiked up Medicine Bow trail to the summit and then took the Lakes Trail back down to the parking lot). It was a great hike, very scenic but unless you’re prepared for hiking in snow and strong, strong winds then I would recommend doing only the Lake Trails part of the trail up and down. Even the Lake Trail has some snow on it, but it’s hard packed and easy to walk on. Some icy sections but overall a walk in the park compared to the other loop section we did! Hiked on October 26th

Fantastic trail. Amazing views of RMNP and Estes. I went in mid October and there were a few snowy patches, but nothing too hard. highly recommend going up the rock crevice to the true peak. Breathtaking views.

Nice easy trail! I hiked the trail with my young daughter and we had no issues. Good views but I wouldn’t exactly call this a moderate trail, more along the easier side.

The trail had spectacular views of Estes and looking at the entrance for the national park. I didn’t like how soft the trail itself was. I sunk down into the sand with every step. It was quite the challenge there and back with good elevation gain. The views made up for the little faults it has.

Really beautiful easy trail. Lots of notes on trail head about bear sightings and activity. Didn't see any. The waterfall was a treat! I highly recommend.

So happy we did this hike! The weather ended up being way better than we expected. We had to guess our way for most of the hike bc the snow covered the trail. It’s pretty slushy right now so I’d recommend waterproof shoes! We made the scramble up to the top through the crevasse and enjoyed the amazing views!

Absolutely gorgeous hike! A steady ascent led to a rocky area with a fantastic view. This is an easy hike to do with dogs. There are bag stations. The trail isn’t very rocky.

Awesome trail! Couple of inches of snow on the trail this morning! Time to start whipping out cross country skiis and snow shoes!

Trailhead was easy to find. Limited parking but we went at 10am on a Thursday and we were the only vehicle there. A local mountain biker was leaving and warned us of bear sightings and scat on the trail. We whistled, spoke loud and clapped hands to make noise as we made our way up the trail. It was an easy peaceful trail with beautiful fall colors. It also had apple trees and berry trees which was in close proximity to the bear scat. We saw a couple of squirrels and nothing else as far as wildlife goes. Crossing the stream multiple times was easy and the trail was well marked. The waterfalls were small but pretty nonetheless. We ran into a total of 7 people and 4 dogs. The weather was perfect no jacket needed.

Amazing 360 view on top of the rock. Make certain you scale the crevasse between the rock to get to the very top. Truly breathtaking views.

Moderate hike climbing 1k feet over 2 miles with a steep stretch the last .25 mile of the trail. Good for everyone jut go prepared with water, protein and maybe a good walking stick.

2 hours in and 1 hour out and that was with lots of stops along the way.

Amazing hike.

Nice trail. Great views of Estes Park and RMNP. Some steep parts but nothing really more than steep steps. Hermit Park is a very nice area and the trail is well marked and well maintained. check on the fee before you go in.

Great hike with beautiful views. We went around 9am on a Saturday and there were minimal people on the trail.

Gf & I are 26. We went with another couple after a week of moving here. Awesome trail, not to strenuous. Made it to the top in just under an hour after taking a couple 30-60sec rests. View at the top was amazing. Worth the hike 100% would go back and recommend to others.

Was a nice early morning hike. I was only one on trail. Was other people in parking area but did other trail options. Was in the 30's but was comfortable when hiking. The wind was the worst factor. Guessing it was blowing in the 40's mph. Could have been why the other hikers did the lower trails. Would recommend checking out the area.
