my favourite hike so far!
only problem we had was this app directed us to the info/ pay center at Tahquitz Canyon. We were meeting friends at the trailhead but we ended up no where near it. The trailhead (start) is actually on the other end or end of what's shown on this map. So across from Indian Canyon Golf Course

Awsome hike. After the second time I did it.

Done it 3 times. Once in 105 degree weather
It’s a good trail. Not simple, not too hard.

Waterfall is currently iced up and slow flowing. Not one of the most exciting destinations to visit amongst the Rocky Mountain trails. Would recommend traversing past and head over to Mills Lake.

Super doke lake, one of the most beautiful someone I meet on the trail said. Once I arrived I was in agreement with him on several accounts.

Beautiful hike with varied terrain, great views, and almost no one around. Highly recommend!

super great trail! Would definitely recommend snow shoes or at least spikes on your boots though. I just had my yaks on and I sunk a couple times but overall gorgeous hike especially with snow and I will be going back.

Awesome experience second time around.

Some pretty underwhelming bridges. I will say the middle of Cheyene Canon was very nice though. It was super windy, very quiet and peaceful, may as well just hang out around the center and views from the side and skip the bridges.

Beautiful even in snow-packed conditions. The falls are mostly frozen over right now, but there’s lots of easy trails in the area. Good grips on shoes (or traction clamps for shoes) would have made it easier, but still fun! And dress warm!!!

Rock stairs!

Amazing hike experienced with my five experienced hikers. Started 2:30am at the bottom in palm spring and reach to the summit by 1pm then heading down to the tram exactly 6pm to catch up our ride down. We finished 23.3 miles total. Most challenging hike so far. Stick pole is a must and good headlights. When you reach to the rangers station dont forget to refuel yourself and rest. heading to the summit is strenuous due to some thin air because of the high elevation. hydrate enough and eat energy bars will help. Recommended for advance and serious hikers.

Bring treking poles, it is all up hill.

This was a fantastic hike! Just under 3 miles, completed btwn 12:30pm and 2pm on Saturday, Nov 3rd. Great views during the entire hike with 360 degree views at the top. Listed as ‘Easy’ on AllTrails, the trail is very clean and well kept, but moderately strenuous for the 1.5 miles to the top. Hope to be able to do again in the future as a run.

went in the snow early November and it was so so so cool to see the Loch like it was. super worth the hike but be careful! trail was pretty icy at some parts

Nice trail!

Steady climb on this, not too taxing for a local. Had a friend in from MN who did all right. Trail is a boot pack, snow the whole way up, 0"-10" and slushy on the way down. Would have been prudent to have snowshoes past the NP/SF boundary marker, but we summited in approach shoes and got a little wet. Good views on top with high winds and clouds sailing past. 4.5 hours round trip and only saw 7 other people out today.

Nice, short steep hike. 3.5 stars if there was a half star allowed. Views are the similar throughout the trail. Did see some mountain sheep about half way on the trail.

Very slippery in winter, wear good shoes with grip. Husband slipped three times. Beautiful falls.

Blows your mind. Tough cookie. Train Hard. Carry lots of Water. Start as early as 1 am.

Hiked to Loch Lake yesterday. We were on the trail at 7:30am. We like to get up early to beat the crowds and always get a great parking space. The trail was great, only icy in spots. So I definitely recommend bringing your traction devices. You will need them. It was cold and very windy at the lake. It is about 2/3 iced over but still very thin. Dress in layers.

Short but rewarding hike with panoramic views from the summit. Rather steep on the way up, but manageable for anyone in reasonable shape. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a shorter hike, it took approximately 90 minutes at a leisurely pace with time for photos at the top.

Phenomenal. Parking is the only drawback.

Great trail and very easy to hike

Went cactus to tram and left at 2am. Got to tram about 10:40. Got lost once. Thank goodness for all trails gps to get us back on track. Read the hiking guys directions and have his landmark pictures ready. Easy to get lost in the dark. Had 6L of water and used all of them. Absolutely hardest hike I’ve done. You are climbing for 8 hours straight and the first mile and last 2 are brutal. Make sure you are properly fueled before you go. I crashed a bit in the first mile because I had nothing before we left. The valley is a beautiful sight when you get there!! Good luck!

Incredible hike! Extremely challenging and not for the faint of heart. October is the perfect time of year weather wise - cool at the bottom and no snow on the top. I recommend starting long before the sun rises to allow ample time to gain altitude before the desert floor begins getting hot.

Packing list

Hiking boots or trail runners (trail is in great condition and has excellent surface)

All Trails Premium Version with GPS map tracker (it is challenging to navigate the first 4-5 miles at night and the turn by turn nav makes all the difference)

Headlamp with extra batteries just in case

1G of water (Minimum amount. I drank 1.5G before the ranger station where there is a refill tap. This water is heavily chlorinated but potable) Camelbak will make your life much easier along with extra bottled water to refill it.

Food (This hike is extremely challenging and requires you to keep your caloric intake up to make sure you don’t bonk before the top)

Wind jacket or shell (The peak can be quite cool and windy. If starting later in the year Dec/Jan I’d recommend a light down jacket as well)

Activity tracker to monitor distance

Hiking poles (I did not use these nor did I bring them during the hike. I felt they weren’t required for the ascent and there is minimal descending to the tram station and therefore not really required.

Pack as light as possible. It is 17 miles to the peak from Palm Springs Art Museum the majority of which is straight up! Any extra weight is a huge disadvantage.

did this in Sept 2016. great hike

Just what I was looking for! My second day in Colorado and this was a great challenge. Took 2 1/2 hours up, wish I had spikes on my running shoes at the top, but I made due. Windy at the top!! I also want to mention, I am not a hiker.

Amazing hike. We got a late start and camped halfway up the mountain in some random spot. Went to the top on day 2 and took the tram down. This hike is an aggressive workout, especially if you're carrying gear. No water on trail in February. Not for the faint of heart. I would recommend.
