It's an "ok" trail. The starting point is not a good place to start... the trail is non-existent so I would start near the "Hickory Hollow-Nature Trail" parking and hike from there. We started at the beginning and did NOT find trail til 1st intersection. Just my 2 cents.... There was a few wet areas to navigate around but doable. Watch out for the "Poison Ivy" as it is starting to sprout out. It's off the trail and should be fine but just a heads up.

The trail is not well marked. We got lost and ended up coming out of the trails not the same way we went in. It was a nice hike though, just wished it was marked better!

Nice trail. Went after it rained and was still passable. Some fun little inclines and connecting Volksmarch to Arrowhead let us get to the shore

Nice short hike. We went after it rained and there were a few puddles but passable enough for our shoes to stay mostly dry. Check for ticks after

Some terrain change. Temperature difference between Volmarch and Arrowhead due to lack of cover – layer during winter.

HikingGreat!

To say not well marked would be putting it nicely. We got lost for several hours. Found our vehicle way after dark. But the fallen trees had been cut away. It was very beautiful out there. Nice elevations and switch backs.

Extremely poorly marked. The trails were covered in leaves so thick you could hardly tell what was what. I got turned around so many times. I would occasionally see arrows, but they were pointing in directions where there were no trails. After a while I just gave up and followed the sound of the road back to my car.

We took our new puppy on his first hike here today. The trail was pretty. There were many different surfaces, mostly grass, sand, and light mud, but it was in good condition.

This was a wonderfully diverse trail with woodlands, meadows, and even sand close by the water. Saw a couple of snakes and lots of deer tracks. Definitely worth the park entrance fee.

Beautiful trail, wet in a few spots not bad. Well marked. Great trail for beginners. Met a few (6) hikers 3 separate couples on trail. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Beautiful weather, foggy/cool 60's.

It’s obvious no one has been out here in awhile. The Trail is in desperate need of maintenance. There are downed trees all throughout the ride. Some trees were still hanging in other trees. Lots of exposed roots makes for a bumpy ride and so many spiderwebs. I mean, we did just have Hurricane Laura pass through so there’s that. It’s still a fun ride, but I might have to come back out with my chainsaw and clear some of the paths.

not well marked.... we walked like 11 miles not 6.5. trails were great desite recent rains. lots of down signs and trees across trails due to recent storms. would def rate higher if I could trust the signage.

Got lost trying to stay on the hiking trail per the AllTrails App. The grass and all wasn’t bad and the only other people on the trail were riding horses. Could be nicer if the trails were marked better. Will go back to try it again but will follow the horse trail next time. Seemed to stay more on the apps (trail) No tics though noted.

This might be the best trail in NorthEast Texas. First, on the State Park map the trail that you are seeing on AllTrails is actually 2 different trails. The White Oak Ridge Trail and the Hickory Hollow Nature trail. One trail flows into another, but they are two distinct trails. This is a great "challenging Beginner" trail because of all the ups and downs, something you don't find much of in Flat North East Texas. I had a great time and saw hundreds and hundreds of small little toads, along with butterflies, deer, and a few mosquitos(you definitely want to bring some OFF).

The environment changes pretty drastically for such a short trail. You go from dense forest to sandy dunes, to waterfront in just 2 miles. I enjoyed this trail a lot. Honestly I loved all the trails at Atlanta State park, they were challenging for the area, with a lot of great views.

animals/insects seen - 1000 frogs, 200 dragonflies, 20 horse flies, 5 mosquitoes, 1 snake the path connecting both state park trails was washed out and over grown, you can see by looking at the major squiggles in the middle of my recording. I died, drank some pickle juice, and carried on; 10/10 might do it again

Did the entire trail this time. Pretty tooth trail, but I’m into that kind of stuff. If you’re already wore out or don’t like climbing much then I’d suggest wrapping up your ride at the horse trailer parking. Although you’ll miss out on a few tight descents, you’ll also miss some tight and technical switchback climbing. Which again is my cup of tea hence my rating. Definitely one of the most fun and longer trails in the area.
