Very challenging trail for me, as it was my first back country camping trip, luckily I had my brother in law with me who has been here a couple of times and he was a big help. We did the trail clockwise and had no reals issue other than being out of shape with a heavy pack on. The trail is clearly marked and I agree with some of the other reviews that the mile markers are not entirely accurate. Please be cautious, as the the leaves and rocks are extremely slippery due to the recent rains. It took us a 3.5 hours to get to our campsite (3) and the next morning it took us 2 hours finish. I consider this moderate to strenuous. I will definitely hike this trail again.

My wife and I hike this trail on a regular basis with our two Golden Retrievers. We all love it!
There are always friendly people on the trail, and we often run into through-hikers of the Appalachian Trail
The views are fantastic!

Great time with my brother! The driving path was closed about a half mile from the start of the hike so we parked at the sign and hiked, finding downed trees and giant puddles in the driving path so definitely heed the warning if you see the sign. There was a small brook where we could fill our bottles too. It was an awesome experience and would definitely recommend.

Good hard hike with the best views I have ever seen besides the grand canyon and I'm afraid of heights so couldn't get to close to the edge. Will for sure do it again! So pretty!

Fun hike. Doesn’t take long and trail is well marked.

This is one of my favorite trails to do soon after it rains. The sound of the river towards the beginning of the hike, paired with the altitude gained is a wonderful experience.

Went here and I was blown away by the power that the falls have on you when you see them in person. The stairs are a challenge but they are worth it!

This is a long one but the waterfall at the end is well worth it. I would stay away from this trail in the hotter months if you get overwhelmed easily. Definitely pack a snack and don't underestimate this one!

great hike beautiful view

Quick and easy trail.

Walked down the trail then up the steps, both had amazing views!

Great trail along the river!

Great views at the top! Hikes a good challenge as well, but definitely doable!

Loved this hike!

Great hike on a wet and foggy morning. If you are hiking during the wet season, use caution. It gets slick on the rocks!

Short hike from the lower parking lot but very steep. Really gets the heart rate up. If your looking for a good 20 min cardio then go for it. Add a heavy backpack to make it more intense going up. The coming down part is a bit tough on the knees, but that just me. It's paved the whole way. Beautiful view from the top.
Happy hiking.

I had a great time hiking this trail

Beautiful hike but can get crowded. Definitely plan to go early if you want more seclusion. My kids really enjoyed the trail as well.

"Moderate"? Ha! No, I'd say more like moderately strenuous. It's well marked, beautiful scenery, a few small creek crossings, and a spectacular waterfall about 5.5 miles in (I hiked clockwise from the trailhead parking lot). Lots of ups and downs. Mostly ups! Took me close to 5 hours, and I'm usually a fairly fast hiker. I've hiked plenty of 8-12 mile trails, and this one sure seems longer than 8 miles :)
But it's beautiful, and I'd do it again. I'm willing to bet there are many wildflowers to see in the spring. Fall would be spectacular, too.

Gorgeous view at the top about 4.2 miles in. The freeman trail can get a little tricky at points since some of the markers have worn off but just keep an eye out for the light blue and you’ll be fine. Took me 3.5 hours going pretty steadily and only staying at the top for about 20mins. Took me about an hour to get back to my car from the top so keep that in mind if you’re going at sunset. Would recommend a walking stick of some sort if it’s rained recently bc there are many slippery parts.

Can get busy but beautiful hike. Lots of old growth. River views most of the way. Really cool vantage points along the way too. Falls are gorgeous.

Great hike! Follows the river the entire way and offers gorgeous views. Definitely wear boots/no slip shoes. Terrain is moderate and can be slippery. Worth the time, travel and energy!

Nice hike. The road going up was washed out but we drove through the water with no problem. Also, there was a bridge out on the trail but we found a big tree laying across the stream a little ways up from the bridge, so we threw some logs in the water so we could step onto the tree and walked on across. There are two switch backs when getting close to the falls. Take the second one and it will lead you to the bottom of the falls. I suggest a good pair of boots and a hiking stick. Happy hiking.

Beautiful scenery, short in-and-out trail

Went today with friends. It was a busy trail. Lots of people were out enjoying the sun and nature. Moderate hike. Very muddy due to all the rain but the water falls were gorgeous. We made it to the end and climbed to the top to see the falls between the cliffs. I am so glad we chose this hike today. Highly recommended. Plan on 3 hours if you want to stop and take pictures along the way.

Beautiful day to hike, cool temps and a little wind. Trail was wet and this slippery. Well marked with orange blazers.

Hiking. Beautiful waterfall.

We like the stairs for exercise and views.
