good exercise

To you people who labeled this hike “kid friendly”, who are your kids? Rambo and Wolverine? This hike should be labeled hard, not moderate, due to very steep dropoffs throughout the Chavez section and some most definite rock climbing involved that is not appropriate for small children. This is NOT a kid friendly hike in any universe. Beautiful scenery but some nasty surprises as you near the creek. Will gladly do this again solo with my husband. Very much regretted taking my kid!

This trail is gorggggg. We went during the week so didn’t have an issue with parking. I typically try not to repeat hikes since there are so many trails to be traveled in CO, but I’d totally do this again with visitors. It’s an easy hike and it’s beautiful the whole way to the lake. The lake itself was, as my visitor said, “the exact scene I wanted at the end of the trail.”

Great scenery. Easy route. Lots of people with lots of dogs. Very limited parking at trailhead, be prepared to start your hike from a remote parking lot.

I took this trail counter-clockwise which I’d never do again. Too much scrambling boulders downhill which was tricky. I suggest to take the beaver brook to Chavez rather than going via the Braille trail. Once down the brook is so pretty and made it worth the extra effort. Next time I’ll take beaver brook to the creek then go back the same way. Boulder scrambling isn’t my thing.

This trail was 40 minutes from our north denver house. We arrived on a sunday overcast day around 12. there werent many people on the trail. there are lots of no bike trails, which is great if you’re not into bikers speeding past you thinking they own the place. (*some bikers are super nice so im not doggin on them*) There was meadow, rocky outcroppings, grassy hills, picnic and kissing spots. It was really beautiful, you do see houses and a road from time to time, but you are in the foothills.. I recommend as a nice 4 mile hike close to denver that’s not overly crowded.

it says moderate, but we thought it was closer to hard. beautiful hike, though, some stunning views of the city when you first start out. from the top you can see Golden to the left, and way in the back you can see downtown Denver, so you really can see it all.
the sun would beat down during the climb up, and then In the forest it cooled down.

Absolutely stunning. Even though wild flowers had already peaked, this trail is breathtaking.

Quite the incline for about half way, but worth the view once you hit the overlook point! Going back down is a breeze!

This was a great hike. Fair amount of people, yet not crowded. Still peaceful and fun. Dog-friendly, with friendliest trial I’ve ever been on. Steep hike up, rocky and often narrow, little protection from the cliff, but worth it. Take it easy, rest. It’s a great afternoon. View of Crag’s Hotel and Continental Divide is spectacular. Oh, and stop in the river once you’ve come down.

8 dollar parking.

I thought this was an alright hike. I’ve been earlier in the summer (June) and it was a beautiful walk in though we didn’t make it to the lake due to snow. Beautiful snow capped mountains and roaring waterfalls. Went again mid August and wasn’t nearly as beautiful walk in and the lake was nice but I’ve seen much more beautiful ones in Colorado. Probably best times are June and July and then fall which I assume will start in September/October.

Nice laid out trail. Not technical but parts that are exposed are warm.

so beautiful at the top. highly highly recommend. get there as early as possible for parking.

nice quick hike up to the lake, not too challenging. awesome views at the top with a second lake if you continue which we didn't have time to do. the road up to the trailhead is very rocky so be careful driving. highly recommend.

Great trail for the pups. Enough shade and they enjoyed the break in the water about half way in. Clean trail, not crowded on a Friday and perfect hiking weather. We will be back!

Grew up hiking these hills. Would suggest early morning or evening jaunts to avoid the heat. It can still get very warm here even though you are in the mountains.

Great hike. Offers a challenge but not too steep - it was fairly easy taking it slow. The trail has plenty of coverage and great views! Fairly busy but we were able to avoid most traffic by getting there in the morning. The loop is less busy than the main out & back trail. $8 to enter El Dorado park.

I've only hiked this trail once and it is a really cool trail, especially 12 minutes away from my house in the city, but the main drawback for me is all the bikes. It's a very popular MTB trail and I had to pause pretty much every other minute to let a bike go by. A few bikes hurtled toward me and expected me to lunge out of the way. Overall it was hard to settle into the hike itself.

It was my first time hiking in Colorado, great place to start. Really fun and enjoyed the beautiful views. Was a bit hard for the first time but I bet if you are used to hiking it would be a pleasant hike.

Couldn't have asked for a better hike today. The weather was beautiful, we had to park at the Brainard Lake Lot after getting there at 9am. It wasn't nearly as crowded as I had expected
Everyone we did come across was super nice and very quiet. If someone can tell me of a place that is this easy of a hike and even more beautiful please let me know. I'm not sure there is a place.

The day was hot. We probably should have started sooner and avoided the heat, but overall this was a nice hike. To be fair, I should probably go again on a cooler day to better rate it. Good sized parking lot and vault toilets at trailhead. Some shady spots, water crossings, lots of wild raspberries.

the rocks are SO cool!! fun hike, not super hard

beautiful, moderate hike, very crowded on the weekends. recommend arriving at trailhead before 730am. diamond lake has plenty of space for the masses but is busy by 930am. recommended!

A great hike to a wonderful lake on Monday, 8/13. I originally planned to get to bluebird lake but called it at the junction and decided to partake in just Ozuel - it didn't disappoint! Note that there's not a lot of shore space to sit down.

I'd read on here that it tends to get hot in the treeline areas which is kinda true. It's not very shaded about a mile past the falls but it's less than 10,000' feet (read: not above treeline). The lack of shade is due to a fire in the late 1970s (Google Ozuel Lake Fire for interesting information on RMNP allowing the fire to burn naturally) and therefore a lack of mature shade trees.

All in all, a really neat hike with great views of Longs and Meeker. Lots of people to the falls and thins out a bit afterwards.

A few notes:
-From GAIA GPS: 10.00 miles, 5:27 hours (58 minutes stoppage time), 1545' ascent
-I arrived to trailhead at 9:30am and there were about 10 parking spots left
-Saw two big ol' cow moose alongside road between entrance station and trailhead
-As others have said, be sure to take small trail to left of large falls to see 40' falls head on

Nice trail with a variety of terrain. This trail may be considered hard for those who do not hike frequently... some narrow, rocky areas with over 1000 ft of elevation change. The river was a nice spot to stop for a rest half way through the hike.

Great hike! Definitely not too difficult... fairly trafficked on the weekend as of you approach the Lake. Lots of fun waterfalls and little features along the way.... If you’re doing this on a weekend definitely make it to the trail head by 7-7:15AM or you’ll be in a jam to find parking! We made it at 8 and parked about a half mile down!

Beautiful BUT: The Lake is now drained. There's only little water left. no more waterfall, and compared to a month ago most of the wildflowers are now gone.
Still a nice walk/hike, would suggest going later in the day as it gets crowded in the morning.

A nice workout with a strong hill qt the end. - beautiful - the river was great for my dog too :)

Busy trail, lots of dogs, but great views
