This hike was amaze-inggg! It was a little harder than I thought it would be, but that might be because I went in the afternoon on a hot day. I loved the views, the water crossing and the lake at the end (definitely went swimming). I took my dog and his feet got hot in the darker dust, we had to take a lot of breaks and I carried him for a bit. I keep dreaming about it and plan to do it again!

Really crowded which makes sense because it's not too strenuous or long so kids can come.

very very muddy right now. We didn't want to slip so we didn't climb down the rock to see the falls. Really pretty hike and worth it for sure.

fun hike, gorgeous lake and pretty flowers

My husband and I hiked this trail for the first time two days ago--excellent hike! On the way up it's a slow burn through the trees, with lots of gorgeous flowers. We started at 5 am and were able to enjoy seeing the sun slowly fill Primrose Cirque while ascending. After getting through the trees, the views are spectacular. We also saw many waterfalls, and wound up crossing one at least three times on the way up. We decided to turn back before going up into the trees leading to Emerald Lake, because we'd heard from others coming down that the ice field was too dicey to go through. Again, it being our first time going up, we decided to call it a day and headed back down. We will definitely try this again later in the season when the snow is melted more!

It’s 1.5 miles straight up hill. No gradual rises but totally doable. Went with my sons 5th grade Fieldtrip and had a great time!

pretty lake!!

bring water shoes!

LOVED this hike. Took about 2.5 hours round trip and it was so worth it.

The view is amazing. Anyone that says differently is taking it for granted. Bring lots of water because it gets hot and it’s uphill the whole way up. Make reservations ahead of time and bring a jacket for the caves because it can get fairly cold inside the caves. Loved it!!

decent quick hike. hiked in, had lunch and enjoyed the falls. easy trail with a little elevation. saw toddlers having no issue.

Nice short hike to the falls. Trail is shadded well and not super rocky but it gets over crowded real quick, so go early to avoid the crowd and to have the falls all to your self.

Fantastic hike, well worth the effort to get there. Took my 2 kids (10 & 14) and though they were tired going up, the lake was their favorite! Would definitely do this hike again. Make sure you bring 3+ liters of water! So many people on the trail today ran out while still high up. One gentleman was completely out of water on the upper switchbacks and nearly fell off a steep incline right in front of us! We were able to grab him in time, sit him down, give him some water, electrolytes and a fruit bar, and he was apparently okay, but they had no food and he looked to be in serious shock. Though a relatively short hike, it’s hot and strenuous at times. Loved it!

a fun and easy trail

Short and easy hike. The only tough part was climbing the rocks to get a better view of the falls at the top. Saw a moose (!!!!) and tons of chipmunks along the way. I went on a Sunday around 11am and it was pretty crowded, but there were still plenty of parking spots on big cottonwood canyon road. From there I walked the .75ish miles on the paved road (FR019) to the trailhead.

This is an awesome trail for a quick hike.

Anyone giving this a bad review probably just has a bad attitude.

The falls are beautiful, and there are some great views.

Sunday afternoon was a great time to do this. I only ran into a few people.

We started our hike at 8:15 this morning and didn't see many people. Tip: you can park at the trailhead though this app directs you to park along the Big Cottonwood Canyon road. If you go early there will be spaces; otherwise walk a mile to the trailhead. Bold ground squirrels were entertaining.

Tough hike. I took my 10 year old daughter on her first overnight backpacking trip. This was definitely a tough hike. Great fishing.

Great hike. We camped at Emerald Lake and it was a beast with camping gear. In the morning we threw on day packs and hit the summit. Amazing views.

great all around hike not to difficult unless you want to climb up to get a closer look at the falls.

did this hike today. very steep in places very beautiful wooded hike with the sound of the river always near and the falls at the end was amazing. well worth the hike.

Fun & easy hike. We parked near the main road & had to walk in on the paved road, but it was still fairly easy. You can try driving all the way to the trailhead to see if you can get a parking spot - be careful not to park in a marked spot that says no parking at any time or you’ll be ticketed (even on Sundays)
My two year old hiked all the way in with the exception of a couple rocky spots. Come willing to get a little wet & you’ll have a good time.
We hiked up to the top where you can see the actual “donut fall”. Brings lots of water & maybe even some snacks.

I love this hike. So beautiful and a great escape from the heat. Amazing views and the best reward; silver lake.

Got an early start to this hike (around 7-8) and it was a little chilly. The first 1/3 of the hike is in a beautiful aspen forest. Couldn’t get enough of the foliage! The hike then opens up and you’re able to see some beautiful views of the back of timpanogos. After a short steep section to the top, we were rewarded with a view of the amazing lake. It was around 9 at that point but the lake was warm enough that I took a quick swim. Beautiful clear lake! As we descended it got really crowded so I suggest if you want to have this lake to yourself come early.
All in all one of my favorite hikes out there.

Wonderful trail! The lake is crystal-clear. If you want to avoid crowds, go early in the morning.

did this hike last weekend. never found the falls but still a very fun hike.

Entire summit was about 17.3 miles. We hiked it from 10am until 7pm. Very difficult but definitely worth it (especially seeing the mountain goats near emerald lake on the way up and way back down)! The air quality is really bad right now so the views are pretty hazy. But you should still make it to the shack for that overall sense of accomplishment! We saw a lot of people backpacking in around 6-7pm with hopes of camping. There didn't seem to be a ton of places to camp so that was interesting. A fellow hiker told us the chipmunks are so bad up there, they'll eat through anything you have. Anyways, do this one. You may hurt the next day but it's worth it!

We looked all over Utah valley area trying to find a good hike for our small family reunion—something young kids, grandparents and pregnant women could do but also something that outdoor enthusiasts and avid hikers would enjoy. This hike was perfect. The drive is scenic and beautiful. The trail is lovely, albeit short, with meadows and (sometimes) flowers and spectacular views right off the path. The view right before the last ascent of the hike is lovely, and those who felt unable to climb the last bit felt satisfied to stay there. The views at the top are splendid though, and it’s not a long climb up the steep part. We enjoyed this trail so much we’ve been back twice since.

Great trail for kids. The last little way up to the actual falls is a bit of a scramble but a fun challenge for the kids. We even ran into a few moose on the trails.

I love this hike. Be prepared to wait in certain areas because it’s always busy and with lots of little children. It’s great to see their happy faces but it can be dangerous. Always keep an eye on your children.
