It has a little bit of everything.

Great moderate hike with a couple of good views, some waterfalls and a couple very minor rock scrambles.

Easy climb

Great hike and view at the peak. There’s a man made rock formation you can climb on top and get a great view of at the peak. Went today and am glad we took others’ advice and went up Pleasant Lane Trail. We barely made it up it was so icy and a little dangerous, couldn’t imagine it being possible to make it down due to it being covered in ice. If you go out and back using the Appalachian it is pretty gradual the whole time, awesome hike.

I wouldn’t quite call this a hike, but it is quite simply one of my favorite places in the state of Connecticut, if not my favorite place. You feel completely removed, and might run into a few people at most. This is a fantastic place for cross country skiing and snowshoeing as well. Dogs are totally not allowed, but we bring Henley anyway, because she loves it.

Awesome number of trails available. Beautiful in all seasons. Wear waterproof boots because it is super swampy in some parts.

Great afternoon hike with sooo many different. Cool rock features! Good for dogs.

Hiked the blue trail it was well marked and heavily traveled.. had some nice views.. when I got to day pond I had to walk under the bridge they are working on and got back to blue trail but then ended up on power lines trail was able to use the map on here to get back to trail.. once back in woods enjoyed the hike back

Nice trail with some up-and-down. Cool little waterfall on one trail and their are plenty of rock features to look at. Power lines in the middle of the hike make it a 4 star and not a 5.

Great walk but not an easy hike.

a little more strenuous with snow, red trail up to peak awesome, blue trail on way back not so much,a lot of hidden rocks and mud, definitely would be better without snow, all in all recommended, on to the next one

Great hike with spectacular views of the mountains and waterfall. Also, well defined trail markers. Definitely would consider it a moderate hike.

Beautiful hike! The view is super nice on top (and can be a bit crowded). I would recommend to take Paradise lane trail to get up there as you will encounter a "wall" of rock to get to the view point. It will be easier on your body to climb this wall rather than go down on it. Can be done within 2-3h.

Loved it!

Great hike with some amazing views near and around Cobble Mtn. Started from the lower half and went counter so that I saved the views for the 2nd half of the hike. Perfect hike to do in the fall, the colors are beautiful and pictures cant do it justice. Easy trail to follow and i personally didnt find it extremely hard, did it on a late Saturday Morning after a few showers and had the whole trail to myself until the end where I passed a few people heading up Cobble Mtn in the early PM. By the time I was finishing the weather really cleared up, the sun was shining and the parking lot was starting to get packed, so I expect this hike gets busy when the weather is nice, luckily I dont mind hiking in the rain and the sun was out by the time I started the 2nd half of the hike, so I was able to enjoy Cobble Mtn for myself. This trail has a lot of boulder crossings which were very slippery after the rain and a few of the trails acted as streams, so I highly recommend you have waterproof boots with good traction. Great place to go after this hike is Kent Falls Brewery, its a working farm brewery and they have some great beer on tap made right there for a very reasonable price, plus the workers there are super friendly, youll thank me later!

I’ve hiked up to Bear Mountain many times but I normally take an in and out (Undermountain trail to AT to Bear Mountain then back down). Today we did this loop- Undermountain trail to Pleasant Lane to AT and back to Undermountain. Undoubtedly the loop was more fun. Right before the Bear Mountain summit there’s some great rock scrambling. If you’re going to do the loop I recommend going counter clock wise (up Pleasant Lane and down Undermountain) to avoid having to transverse down the rock scramble. The rocks are pretty wet and slippery but they weren’t difficult to climb, I would just prefer to climb up them rather than down. We’ve also had a lot of rain lately so it was a pretty wet trek overall. Views are amazing and well worth the hike.

Not the best marked for part of the trail. Gorgeous hike though! Will do again. I would rate as mild ( btw easy and moderate), it’s not flat but it’s not steep.

Really fun hike.

Well marked and not very challenging. If you have bad knees, hike the loop counterclockwise (go up Paradise and come down Undermountain)...you’ll avoid a short, but challenging descent near the summit. Nice views at the top.

I love this trail. I prefer to take the Paradise trial up since there is a steep rocky section and I find it easier climbing up the rocks if the trail is wet. Due to heavy rainfall many sections of the trial were wet and muddy.

Did this on Sunday, it was a gorgeous day! I brought my 11w old puppy with me and a friend. We started at about 1030 and ended around 3pm. Having the puppy made things a little slower but overall really enjoyed the hike! Tried to take the route preferred by commenters but I believe we ended up taking the opposite direction which means we were butt scooting down some of the rocks because it was so steep! Still a lot of fun though! Made me question how some of the other folks I saw pass us were making it up that way though.
It was pretty trafficked though.

Great hike! Especially during fall in CT. My husband and I hiked yesterday. We took the advice of others here and took a right at the fork to paradise lane trail to do a counterclockwise loop. The trail is easy to follow and accurately rated as medium. The rock ledges before hitting the peak were the hardest part. The view at the top was lovely, and going counterclockwise allowed us to enjoy the views on the way down as well. I tracked 6.35 miles and we finished right around 3 hours including our lunch stop at the peak.

Great loop, blue trail takes you back in time through a tight and rocky valley. I’m proud of my 7 and 9 year old for doh g whole loop. Nice view from summit too!

The Saturday I was there was overcast and dreary with no view of the Berkshires from Rand's view and a slight view from Mount Prospect. On the plus side The Great Falls were RAGIN!! Had a nice picnic at Rand's view will definitely return one day when the weather is nice!!

Hi ya'll I did this hike yesterday. I think it is accurately labeled moderate, although I'd imagine if you are a seasoned hiker on trails with incline it might seem easier. The most challenging parts of the hike for me, were the first 20 minutes before it splits, and the half mile up the rock scramble before the summit. However, there was plenty of flatter sections to allow you to catch your breath.
I took the suggestion of doing the loop counterclockwise, and am glad I did. Personally I don't think I would have liked climbing down the rock slabs. They were pretty damp and slippery. Also, because I did it counterclockwise I was able to continue looking out on the view as I made my way down. This hike took me about 3 hours 40 minutes. I definitely took my time going up. Made a few breaks, but was able to come down at a pretty good slip. Enjoy!
