I made it to the top today and it took all the will power I had. Didn’t get the sunny view but will try sometime in the summer again when I’m in much better shape! The views came out intermittently, and I was able snag a couple fun scenes.

Unreal. Easy access, fun hike. Feels like summer in mid January.

Awesome view. Definitely worth the steep climb and ropes to get to the top.

This was the first time that I did this hike in the winter. It was amazing! We just hiked in our boots. Crampons could have been nice here and there, but it was totally doable without. We passed lots of people with snowshoes, which wasn’t necessary at all. We were definitely a lot faster and more agile. The hike overall is moderate. It took us a little under 3 hours to complete the hike (out and back). The view on the summit is stunning. Very windy though. We were able to see all five mountains. Such a treat. This hike is definitely one of my favorite ones. Great in any season!

Good 3-4 hour loop with decent elevation.

I hike this trail twice as a kid with girl scout camp. So beautiful! Time to go again

Steep all the way up. I went in February 2018 on a rare sunny day. Gorgeous views of the gorge. The mountain weather changes drastically up top. Wear layers or at least pack prepared. I remember the wind being brutal. I’d love to go back when the flowers are blooming. Interesting history of the mountain too.

Quite the calf burner, but made for an incredible first time hike. The views are worth the grind up to the top. Couldn't imagine walking this during snowfall or heavy rain due to downed trees in parts and narrower paths. All in all a nice gem of a hike.

Definitely need spikes up until about Mirror Lake and from there on out. Many people on snowshoes and in spikes. People with nothing were slipping a lot. Icy and well packed. Going up TDH mountain was relatively easy, this is my first time doing this hike in winter but second overall. Windy as all hell at the top! Sky was clear and Hood was shining!

As someone who isn’t from here, I was bummed that nobody mentioned the lake gets drained in the winter so it’s mostly dirt there currently, but it was a great hike nonetheless and the view of Mt Jefferson is incredible. No snow, and saw families with small children and kids on the way out and back. Took my 12 year old dog on this and she got tired from the incline on the way up but was fine after we hung out at the top for about 10 minutes and we were able to get back to our car in half the time it took to get up the mountain. Definitely would do again when it’s warmer out and the lake is full

Hiked the trail on Sunday 1/13/19. It was chilly but not too cold with a blue sky. Recommend using trekking poles and shoes with good grip. Take snacks and water too. It’s definitely a hard hike up but even kids were doing it with their parents. Pace is key. Worth the view.

The trail is in great condition right now, and the warm winter means no snow (just a little frost at the summit.) Lots of people had the same idea, and met a lot of nice people on my descent.

The weather tracker as part of Alltrails is spot-on accurate. Make this hike while the weather is good.

Took a group of Boy Scouts to overnight at the lake . Built an igloo in the campground area. Very busy parking lot and trail during the day, only ones on the lake that night!

Beautiful hike with an amazing view, especially on a clear day. I would highly recommend this hike.

Hiked on 1/14/19. Super steep. Went up the difficult side which I feel good about because it was harder than heck. The last 1/2 mile was fog fog fog and icy. Not safe conditions doing it alone with out proper equipment. I will definitely hike this again.

Did this hike in November. Very beautiful views and not too much work to get there.

I’ve hiked this trail several times throughout the year. The trail is in good condition and easy to follow. There are a few inches of snow at the top but it’s still safe to scramble the shoulder for the view.

Avoid the upper goat path. I is thick enough to be a hazard but to thin to work with just under 1/4”. Fall protection gear is highly recommended. For above the continuation.

Beautiful views will do this again! Went in October good temperature and clear view

Awesome view! On a clear day 3 gorgeous mountains. Pitch dark when we headed back to parking lot, best place to do stargazing! Lots of shooting stars too.

Love this hike!!! It was way more then 1.9 it more like 5 1/2 miles almost 6 , still total worth it , you can take a way quicker way to the lake but the loop around is gorgeous. We snowshoed in for fun rentals only 15$ not bad at all .kids could total make it only one big hill at the end .

Loved this hike. It tested not only my physical strength but also mental strength. beautiful views and worth the rope climb to the top!

Kids enjoyed the hike and played in the snow.

We snowshoed this trail on a Saturday morning. There were a few people there when we left the car, and by the time we returned to the parking lot (before 11:00), it was packed. The total length for the trip was 5 miles, with the additional miles from the sno-park.
The lake was covered in snow and pretty. The view of Mt. Hood was spectacular.
The path trail was very hard packed snow and ice. You don't really need snowshoes for this trail. A lot of people were out there without. The trail was pretty crowded.
I prefer a little more solitude hiking and snowshoeing. This would be a good beginner trail. You don't have to worry about getting lost and the scenery is pretty.

Great exhausting hike, and well worth it with the views and flowers. Why bother hiking a sidewalk, hike Dog mountain because you'll feel like you've been somewhere and experienced something worthwhile!

Great easy hike! A little tough when you want to go down to water , which is cold.. pretty busy on a Sunday, got to parking at about 1100. Water color is amazing!!! Would love to come back when their is snow everywhere . Highly recommend.

What a gorgeous hike. I hiked this on December 24th and you begin in a lush forest even during winter, there is a lot of green and a lot of huge trees. I didn’t encounter any snow but there was snow present on slopes further up past the trail. It definitely deserves the hard rating if hiked all the way to the top. If stopping at the first viewpoint it may be a moderate. There is a lot of elevation gain quick. The last part after the end of the maintained trail is a little sketchy, some ropes are there to help up but I wouldn’t place all your weight on them. The view from the top is definitely worth it.

Kicked my butt, but it was an amazing hike with wonderful views. Did it New Years Day, parking wasn’t full even at 10am. Saw a decent number of people. We brought our 75lb Shepherd/golden mix and highly recommend booties for any dogs on the mountain, especially near the top. We put his boots on around 1.75mi up the mountain when the chain link became prevalent on the ground. Bring lots of snacks, the elevation is harder than it seems! Be careful of ice covering the path near the top. Would love to go back again.

Easy to find, clear trail, beautiful view. Hiked in winter and snow coverage was not foreboding.

Beautiful hike, mostly dirt but where the canopy lightened there was a little snow on the ground. By the end of the hike the snow was mostly melted. The pool was beautiful with the snow falling, but don't expect a big waterfall this time of year.

One of my favorite hikes! Minimal views compared to some other hikes in the gorge, but not as busy and with nice paths for my dogs. Very dog-friendly, people frequent with horses so please be respectful and keep them leashes.
