Great trail. With all the rain I would definitely have some shoes that handle mud and water really well. A lot of the trail is shaded so it was very wet. I loved it though.

Fun hike! Went after a rain storm so the trail was super muddy but not very crowded. Under the rainy/muddy conditions, the trail was more of a moderate hike. Lots of rocks at the end just before the gorgeous falls!

It is pretty! We went on a Saturday so crowded and it rained, so really muddy! More on the moderate side than easy. Had toddler with us that couldn’t be carried up the last steep rocky portion to the falls. Had view though!

Take this trail which connects with the John Rock loop trail for some spectacular views! Much less crowded than the Looking Glass Rock trail and still with beautiful scenery. Park at the Pisgah Wildlife Education center and pick up a trail map- very well marked and maintained.

Beautiful scenic hike. Waterfall at top is gorgeous. Many areas of the trail were very muddy.

Wonderful!!!! Lots of falls, lots of shade. Easy hike and lots of places to stop and enjoy the water. Go up the ropes— you won’t regret it! Just stick nearest to the water once you’re up past marker 3 so you don’t get lost!

Great trail. Easy for kids. Beautiful falls with lots of areas to get your feet wet or take a little dip. Very crowded. Will try to go during the week next time.

Very peaceful and well shaded hike. There are not any views from this trail however you can easily go to the John Rock trail around the half way point and find some.

Great hike with beautiful views of the waterfalls.

This hike was not particularly demanding. it did have some nice views at the top.

beautiful waterfalls. great hike!

I found this to be a difficult hike but well worth it.

Great hike for the whole family! We have been twice and the hike to the top is awesome!

Wonderful hike with our 2 dogs! We loved the swimming holes throughout the hike to let our dogs (and us) get our feet cooled off. Beautiful waterfall!! We hiked to the base of the falls and didn't climb the rocks to the upper falls.

I love this trail. I walk this after work so get in some relaxing nature time, and get in some exercise. The falls are beautiful, and relaxing. Everyone I’ve met is super nice. Plenty of shade, as well as sun at main waterfall. It gets semi steep at some points, especially if you hike up past the main waterfall area. There are ropes along the path past the waterfall to help you climb up, definitely some rock scrabbling involved.

Beautiful hike

Great waterfall! Although the recent rainfall left the trail quite muddy, it was manageable. I would recommend wearing waterproof shoes as you need to ford a stream. The waterfall was impressive and a perfect pit stop on the way through Asheville.

A trail i've been doing since I was a little kid. Walk up the hiking trail to the right & walk back down the gravel road. The views from the top are amazing, and sometimes there's cows! trails are always in great condition, and it's never too crowded. great for the sunset!

About as good as you can get. Easy walk in and out, and the falls are just beautiful. can't recommend this enough.

Beautiful short walk with a nice meadow to watch the view, have a picnic and watch the cows. (In summer.) If you want a real hike this isn’t it, but if you want to relax and just play games with the kids, this is the place to go.

Fantastic hike! Great hike for our 6 years olds! Beautiful waterfall awaits you at the end!!

(kids pov) Really liked the trail, would do it again, "this trail rocked, haha" (lots of rocks).
(mom) This was a really cool trail, but I'm not going to lie - the hike up from the picnic area was rough. Constant climb and lots of rocks. From the pavilion up is easier and gorgeous. So green, informational placards, and a lovely natural spring on the side of the path. Pretty wildflowers! Blueberries weren't ripe yet. Best dog drinking fountain ever! Would do it again.

Great hike! Took me 3.5 hours to do the Loop and clocked more than 9.4 miles total; certainly more than what’s advertised on the site. Waterfalls, thick rhododendron forests, but very muddy and slick in some places. Going up Art Loeb was great and passing by the campsites was fun near dark.

One of my favorite trails. Wide path, shady and in the woods, follows the river/creek, great for kids and dogs. Waterfalls and areas kids can get in and play safely are a wonderful payoff along the way!

Beautiful trail...loved seeing bear tracks! The falls were beautiful and I wouldn't call this necessarily easy! Much better to hike during the week than on the weekend when there is heavy traffic!

Very well kept, beautiful hike! i wouldn't say this is 'easy' as it's got some inclines children might find diffcult but it was nice! Also, it is well-traveled, go early if you want to find parking.

Pretty positive these pictures of the view are from the John Rock loop, which is part of this one but eventually you have to go on a different trail. Cat gap has no/limited views, and is the same distance.

My son (age 4.5), husband, and I did this trail with one modification in June. It was a great backpacking loop for us. The first day we hiked in about 1.5 miles and started to look for a campsite, which we found 0.6 miles off the loop at the intersection of cat gap bypass and cat gat loop. Not liking to back track, we hiked around cat gat loop to get back to the planned route, which we then finished as defined here. The waterfall on this trail was pretty spectacular-- when you are right up close to it to view, it is REALLY LOUD. The trail is pretty, lush, and varied, lovely for a warm weekend with a child in tow. There are no scenic views on this trail. All in all, a trip worth doing but probably not one to do multiple times unless you live close by. On the second day we hiked from 8 am to 3 pm with plenty of breaks for water play as necessary by a 4.5 year old-- his longest day yet at 7.3 miles, but that just goes to show how easy the trail is.
Trail Rating: * Miserable ** Boring ***Good Hike ****Fantastic Hike ***** National Park Worthy Hike

Ok so if you’re going to do this trail start at the picnic area and head up from there. I made the mistake of starting at the visitors center and heading down, only to find some picnic tables overlooking a parking lot! Kids were not pleased. The grassy knoll was nice, saw some people hanging out up there in some nice spots. That’s easily accessible from the visitors center if you just want a nice easy spot to be....never found the waterfall either
