One of the prettiest hikes I have done. It has a gradual incline so not so bad, About a mile in a half before the Peak vear to the right and you will see a cement bench with incredible views! This is a popular trail so parking was filling up fast around 6:00 am but it was gonna be a warm day. Highly recommend...

Love this trail! Very hard try and go super early because it gets hot. One of the things I Noticed is that couple times I saw glass by where the parking is. The last time I was there they broke my rear window just to steal my backpack with nothing of value.

Hiked on Friday 9/21/18. Beautiful hike and very well maintained trail. Lots of different mileage estimates out there, but definitely more than 15.1 miles — my best estimate is 15.8 miles. Elevation gain is 4,719 feet from the parking lot. Leave early! You’ll appreciate the cool of the early morning. Take at least 3 or 4 liters of water, but there was at least 1 small stream (needs to be treated or filtered) on the trail still running, about halfway to summit. The approach dirt road is very rutted now, I would not recommend taking it with a low clearance vehicle. Saw mountain lion prints on the trail on the way up. Windy at various spots, but not at the summit the day I hiked it.

This is a tough, rewarding hike. The three miles or so after Bear Flats are on a relatively steep grade and it is strenuous. It’s doable and safe, but you just have to pace yourself and take your time. Doing this hike near dawn would be preferable as the temperatures can climb in the afternoon. Also, I would recommend bringing poles for the descent—they’ll make your life a lot easier and slightly less painful. I hardly ever use poles, but I was glad I had them for the way down on this trail.

This trail is a lot less crowded than the Devil’s Backbone route, which is a plus. It seems a lot of people do it as a training hike for Whitney and Cactus to the Clouds. If you want to challenge yourself, I highly recommend it.

I give this trail a 4+. The beginning is easy and shady even after leaving late.(10AM) The middle is moderate, but the last mile or two is tough. November through March is the best time for this hike. Views we're hazy but impressive.

My fav of the Six pack of peaks SoCal, its #4 for me. Didn't really feel the elevation gain due to the gradual switchbacks. Left close to 6:30 am last Saturday and finished at 1:30 pm. Really windy at the top. Dress accordingly. Not very busy. Follow the hiking guys directions to find parking. Frontage road past fire station, turn right, go 4 wheeling for 1/4 mile. Not alot of parking so get there early. San Jacinto Peak is next. The full 19 miles!

September 18th: This hike was gorgeous and challenging. I underestimated it and took only 2 liters of water. I ran out about halfway back to my car, and by the time I got fluids I was very ill. I want to reiterate a previous poster's suggestion - take at least 3 liters!! Amazing views at the top, well worth the hard work.

Hiked on September 15th. Great trail conditions. I recommend driving a car with a high ground clearance as the third of the mile from highway 38 to the trailhead is not paved and deeply rutted with large rocks sticking out. A wind breaker will come in handy too. I hiked to Limber Pine this time but hope to make it all the way up next time.

I consider myself a relatively experienced hiker, having done many of the smaller peaks in the San Gabriels without much of a struggle. But this trail surely handed it to me. The elevation gain is not to be taken lightly - I started struggling about 2 miles in! I’m a 26 y/o female and this hike took me a total of 5 hours on the ascent (I had some nasty blisters to deal with, so that may have added some time), and about 3.5 hours to descend. But man, did I feel accomplished when I reached the top - it truly is a rewarding hike if you’re looking for some inner strength! Highly recommend for those looking for a challenge.

Great challenge! On Sept 14 there still was a trickle of water at High Creek; I could have packed 4-5 lbs lighter. I did drink about 4.5 liter - in full sun it still was warm at the top. I saw about a dozen other hikers on a Friday. Weather was great, views were fairly clear, and it was another glorious day on the trail.

Midweek hike. Had a late start up the trail and had the summit peak all to myself! Beautiful views, enjoyed the late afternoon sun glowing through the forest trees on the way back down.

Did this one with my hiking buddy. We started in the late morning. Made our way through the back side. My altimeter watch was giving us very wrong elevation readings so we thought we were ascending very very slowly, but before we knew it, we reached the top! The backside of Wilson facing the San Gabriels takes your breathe away!

Great hike to burn those calories! I started on the main trail from Discovery Lake through the neighborhood above. Steep to start, but there is a paved road to make it easier. Once past the residential area, the trail gets more rough. I took a few off-the-main-trail paths that got very steep and loose towards the top. There are a few cut-through paths that are challenging and feel like you're getting lost, but you always end up at the top. Great 360 view. You can see the ocean on q clear day. Took less than 2 hours round trip at a brisk pace.

Was Limber Creek Flowing

My wife and I hiked this Saturday 9/8/18. We arrived to a full parking lot at the trailhead at around 7:15 Saturday morning. We did find a spot along the road where we could get off to the side adequately. As everyone says though, get here early for a spot. It was going to be 100 degrees in the valley so wasn’t sure we’d hike the entire way today but it was very comfortable temperature in the mountains and much of the trail was covered so not fully exposed to the sun which was great.

It starts off along the creek and the sound of the water is very nice as you hike along!

My wife and I aren’t ones for “dangerous” hikes and we felt very safe along the entire route. Although there are switchbacks and walking along the mountain sides, I never felt uncomfortable. Highly recommend trekking poles and good hiking boots though as there are rocks and gravel areas where you want good footing and poles for balance as well as take weight off your knees etc.

Took me 3.5 hours up with a couple short stops to talk to other hikers. And 2.5 down non-stop. The views are awesome. As for the last few hundred yards to the summit, I’ve read people think it’s steep and the hardest part of the hike....I’d have to disagree as it wasn’t the kick in the teeth I was expecting and really not much harder than any other part of the hike. The hard part of this hike is that it is long....it says 11.6 but by my GPS it was 14. Don’t think you are doing this hike if you haven’t had some training or aren’t at least fit as it is a long way up and back!

Trail is open, I hiked it 9-8-18 and there were lots of others out there as well.
My GPS did not take me straight to road to the trailhead, I had to go up a side road past the fire station to find it. From there, it was a really bumpy dirt road. I was glad I had my SUV. Parking is limited.
The entire trail is at a pretty steady incline with multiple steep sections mixed in. A lot of it is completely exposed to the sun. Bring plenty of water. I usually don’t wear sunscreen but wish I had on this trail.
There is a view point about 2 miles from the summit with spectacular views of baldy, Gorgonio & plenty of others. Definitely worth a stop.
There are also quite a few sections surrounded by bushes with prickly ball things so it you take a pup, check their feet often or bring dog boots.
Did this hike the day after Gorgonio (not recommended) so my times were terrible but we started around 830am, summited around 145pm and got back to the car at 645pm.

Awesome hike! A good portion of the trail is shaded & some water was available. Be careful what you leave in your car, saw a black bear in the parking lot.
Just like everyone else has said, that first mile and those last couple miles to the peak will get ya. To me, all the miles in-between were relatively easy & enjoyable. For a bit I forgot I was in SoCal, it looked like the Pacific Northwest. On the way back, those miles were long, probably because I wanted back to the car.
My pup and I started at 715am & got to the peak at 145pm. It seemed to take everyone we talked to about 6-6.5 hours to summit. The way back took about 4.5 hours.

Fun trail, I did the Ridgeline trail to double peak. Will definitely be back to explore other routes. Trailer parking is limited, would not suggest a large gooseneck trailer, Trailer parking may be difficult on a popular day. Also, a busy road is nearby and would be scary if a horse got loose. I recommend not taking a green or new horse. I went during the week, in the middle of the day. Footing was decent, a few rocky areas, I was able to trot and canter a little. There are mountain bikers doing single tracks and pop up out of no where, my horse did spook a couple times but the mountain biker did stop and was very respectful of my horse. Overall nice views, nice trails will be back 鸞

I love this trail. It is a brutal, gruelling hike up with about a 6000ft elevation gain in under seven miles.

This route is way more steep than the Baldy Loop (Manker Flats, Devil's Backbone, ski lifts, the Notch restaurant, etc). None of that is on the out and back trail. But it sure is beautiful and considerably less crowded.

I found this trail by mistake after summitting Mt San Antonio from the Manker Flats/ Devil's Backbone route, then mistaking Old Baldy Trail (Bear Canyon Trail) for the Baldy Bowl Trail. By the time I noticed my mistake, I was well into the descent so I decided to just go with it. I didn't realize that meant ending up in Baldy Village, about two miles downhill from where we parked. But the owner of the Baldy Lodge restaurant kindly gave us a lift back up to Manker Flats.

I'm honestly so glad we made this wrong turn, because we saw the most gorgeous views here. And we didn't see a single person on our descent in April. I came back yesterday (this time beginning on Old Baldy Trail), and the incline is a beast! There is very little shade past the first 2 miles, so facter that into your time and water planning.

If you're a real hiking fanatic, I highly recommend trying this route up Baldy. It is very trying and equally rewarding!

Really great! Training for Whitney!

Beautiful, varying, winding, lovely

Hard hike more or less uphill for a bit over 9 miles. Water available at Vivian Creek and High Creek Camps (Sept 03, 2018). You don't need a Wilderness Permit for a day hike (but they are highly recommended to help with trail management and S&R if something goes wrong). Wilderness permits are required for all overnight hikes - they're available from the Mill Creek Visitor Center on the way in. Rangers were checking overnight permits on Sept 02, 2018. Wind can be very strong and very cold at the top - make sure you bring warm clothes!

I love this trail! It is definitely a harder hike but it is definitely worth it. The views at the top are great because you can see all of the inland Empire. I would recommend filling up your water at the stream at the beginning of the trail because there is none closer to the top. HAVE FUN!!!

Legs were shot day after, what a workout!

I've done this hike three time in a six week period with the last two being over-nighters on consecutive weekends! At this point, its my favorite place to summit because of the view! Especially at night! You can take in the view of pretty much the entire Inland Empire as well as the High Desert!

Now to the terrain. The trail is definitely challenging once to pass Icehouse Saddle. The trail has some ups and downs as well as some very deceptive inclines! once you reach "The Tree" you start the last leg of the trail which is pretty much switchbacks the whole way but the views are spectacular! I can't wait to do a winter hike up there! :-) Finally, you'll come to a fork in the trail where you'll see a post that is supposed to have a sign attached to it. You'll want to stay to the right of that because the other pathway will take you to Etiwanda (so I've been told). That last couple hundred yards seems to be the most grueling! I'm not sure if its just because you've hiked almost six miles of rugged terrain or if its actually the hardest part of the hike!

If you haven't already been there, it'll seem like forever to take that last few hundred feet but as you reach the top, and the IE down below comes into view, you'll forget all about the last few hours!

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this hike.

As I stated before, at this point, Cucamonga Peak is my favorite peak to summit! maybe its because I've been there and camped out, the spectacular views or the hike itself... whatever my reason, I promise, you will not be disappointed!

IT IS NOT a 17miles hike, it is 20 miles hike! This is a difficult trail especially the first 2 and the last 3 miles. It took me 7 hours to reach the top and 4 out of 7 hours were spent on the last 3 miles because of the high altitude and steep elevation gain. I had 5 l of water/coffee/Gatorade with me and it was enough for me. It took me 4 hours to get back. Our hike started at 5:15 am and we were back to the car at 5:30pm (11 hrs walking time, around 12 hrs total time). Be ready both physically and mentally to hike this peak !
