Beautiful falls at the end of an easy, well-paved trail. To enjoy the full experience make sure to cross the hanging bridge and follow the trail to the bottom of High Falls

Great challenge, makes for a great day of MTB.

Not hard. We hiked with a baby in a front pack and two dogs with no problems. If you are a frequent hiker you will love this trail

This is a Workout! 1:30 out. 1:10 back. 6.3 miles of an obstacle course of rocks and roots.
Enjoying the summit with your family...priceless.
A nice place to enjoy snacks with a view.

Beautiful trail with varying elevations. Take the steep stairs (there had to be 75+ stairs) down to the river before the falls. Very quiet, which I assume not many trek down because of these stairs. We had the river to ourselves for the entire time. On the way back up you’ll get a good leg workout! We did this after exploring High Falls.

Great views! Amazing greenery during summer. Will definitely visit during fall. It’ll surely be more beautiful!

Second time here with a friend..... what can be said really? Great hike, beautiful views, wonderful northern MN hiking experience. Highly recommend

Great hike with beautiful views. I think it was a little closer to 7 miles but still great. Once you get to bear lake, you can choose to take a different trail back or you can take the same trail. It is the same distance either way. We chose to do out and back on the same trail. I would recommend bringing a lunch with on this hike if you don’t plan to spend the night. When you factor in taking pictures, lunch and a few short breaks along the way, this hike took us about 5 hours total. If it’s hot out bring lots of water. Overall, this is the coolest hike I have done on the north shore. Would absolutely recommend.

The views were amazing. The lakes are crystal clear. This trail is a high moderate or a low difficult. There are a lot of elevation gain and decent, rocks, and muddy trails.

A good waterfall to hike for (High Falls) that isn’t as crowded as Gooseberry. If you’re going to hit the other waterfalls, see them on the way - none are as impressive as High Falls. Also, a cool suspension bridge is just above the falls. P.S. Watch out for big scary black beetles flying around this time of year!

We repeat - rugged not tough! Worth hiking to the overlook at Bear Lake. You won’t be disappointed. Rocky - wear good shoes. It was dry for us, but other times of the year it looks like a lot of mud. A “can’t miss” in the area for anyone who loves a good trail.

Awesome falls, cool swinging bridge and nice elevation changes make for a good hour long hike.

Great waterfall views at both top and bottom of the waterfall. Nice easy hike in with a great path. Cool
Old suspension bridge you can cross and the falls have multiple view points to see down the river.

Great hike!

Fun hike, went with my parents and our dogs. Fairly easy trail for everyone. It took 2 hours to reach the summit, 1:45 to come back down (at mom's pace). Doable in 1:30 in and 1:30 out. Trail is well kept, downed logs were recently cleared.

It rained the night before so the bugs were very bad until we started accending. Make sure to bring bug spray. Was very cool out so there was lots of fog, so not much of a view at top for us. But it cleared a little on the decent so we got to see the summit as we rounded Whale Lake.

One of Elk Rivers best hidden secrets!!! Love this trail! Spring and winter are great! Summer it gets very Buggy- so bring bug spray! Fall is simply amazing! Even in rain it’s a perfect workout! Walking is hard- I can’t imagine this trail on a bike!

We had a wonderful time on this hike with our son who got his 9th highpoint. My husband hiked this about 40 years ago so it was a trip down memory lane for him. I have been doing the stairs at work for 6 weeks as training for hiking and this was a pretty strenuous hike for me. It took us 4 1/2 hours with rain for the middle section. Lots of mosquitos and lots of rocks and boulders. The view was lovely at the top. My son who is in great shape rated this as easy. My husband who is in pretty good shape rated it moderate and for me in my late 50s it was moderately hard. There were about 20 or so other people on the trail some with young kids.It was a great way to spend the 4th of July.

Nice hike today we had a blast

Great Hike! Took about 2 hours with two adults, two kids (10 & 8) and a dog. This trail goes down to both Two Step Falls and the High Falls. It also continues to the High Falls observation bridge. It does not go to Cascade Falls. If you plan on going down to see both falls plan on about 500 steps.

Amazing hike! Beautiful nature walk all the way up to the view of Bean Lake. The view of Bean Lake was SPECTACULAR. Very beautiful, with plenty of spots to stop and take it all in. If you continue to Bear Lake there is a nice spot to check out right on the water, where you could swim if you wanted. There were quite a few muddy spots, like others mentioned but it was doable. We wore tennis shoes, which was fine but you’d have no problem if you are wearing hiking boots. Definitely recommend this hike!

Skip the hike you were thinking about and hit this one instead. Rugged but not tough.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed every bit of it! Extremely beautiful!

Nice relaxing trail that takes you past an old log cabin made from very large timber. Many nature markers along the trail that I wish we had the secret decoder ring for so we would have known why they were there.

Not too difficult. Hiked easily with my 2 month old in a carrier and my 7 year old handled it well. Beautiful views of the river and falls.

Great hike with amazing views at the end. We went at the beginning of June and when we decided to go all the way down by the waters edge of Bear lake, there were quite a few gardener snakes (like 8-10 in one small area), just a little helpful FYI for anyone who is particularly afraid of snakes.

This is the hike to the High Falls from the Visitor Center. It also includes Cascade Falls. The shorter hike to High Falls does not go by Cascade Falls.

I think this trail is the trail to the High Falls from the trailhead lot. You can cross the River on metal swing bridge and get down below the falls. Nice!

Definitely a challenge getting up and down the bluffs for a beginner. I would definitely hike it again, though. Hiked it in Keen sandals just fine on a dry day. spectacular views of beautiful Lake Pepin.

Nice easy hike up to a beautiful waterfall. A little crowded with people in some spots.

Had a nice hike, was shady for much of it which made it tolerable in the heat. Off the main road that runs down the middle we went to the left and walked a trail that wound around for about 2 miles. Less bikes coming through that side of the trails. All trails are dirt as you are hiking a dirt bike trail.
