trail running

This was my third time. The trail is a bit confusing & you may take a few scenic routes because it is actually parts of trails that are connected. That said, there is tons of wild life! Today we ran into three different kinds of snakes both on the trail & in the water. One of them was a copperhead-we’re still alive! We also saw different colored butterflies; crazy shrooms; & salamanders. The abundantly mossy path lets you know it is sparsely traveled. About halfway through, there are some rocks you can skip and sit in the middle of the creek to stretch and soak the sun. It may only be a handful of rocks to climb over, but for a trail run, it’s the right amount of adventure. The steep gravel road on concrete bridge road is challenging if you’re trying to run. Once you’re over it- your thighs will feel like the most powerful thighs.

Wonderful views. Can't wait to go back. Go early to beat some of the crowd!!

Neat and easy hike. The trickling waterfall and cave were neat. Worth the short hike!

A short trail. Very popular area for swimming. Beautiful waterfall over a pool setting.

Great short hike with the upper cascades making it worthwhile. You can just view the cascades or get in the creek and play.

The Rock Garden Trail is a neat sensory type trail. Great paved surface!

A great hike with several options to lengthen it if wanted. Hanging Rock Trail makes it all worth it.

The best trail in the park in my opinion. The day I hiked it was super foggy/rainy so views from the summit were zero. The fog up there made it feel like being in a cloud, so it was still very neat.

Amazing view and enjoyable hiking..

came here on my first trip to North Carolina. was an amazing hike and well worth the drive

Love the short strenuous like hike to a beautiful overlook!! The dog did really well too! Bring water!

Beautiful falls and swimming area for the whole family! The walk to the falls is easy and well worth the beautiful rocks and waterfall!

Fun and easy with a beautiful view. Would love to go back in the fall and see all the trees.

Amazing falls and terrific trail. I’d rate as easy to moderate. Can’t miss trail in the park.

Amazing views!!! We had a lot of fun exploring the different trail options. Be sure to check out the waterfalls!

Beautiful waterfall

Nice short hike with a great payoff at the end. Most of the path is just gravel through woods. Wooden platform overlook and stairs down to the base of the waterfall. Small area to walk around in the water. Perfect for small kids too.

Very smooth trail for beginners

Not too long of a hike, but gets steep and challenging right at the top. BEAUTIFUL views from multiple lookout points - and great photo opportunities at hanging rock!

very good trail, I made the mistake of having to many drinks the night before and it made the trail a little bit tougher

The views at the top were gorgeous, and it was a good workout..but very crowded, loud and lots of trash! I would only go back very early in the morning or maybe in the fall/winter months.

I'm a novice but this trail was tough but it taught me how to tough it out and finish even though the elevation and steps were a little tough. can't wait to tackle another one.

Hiked this trail yesterday with my family. Met some really nice people along the trail. You’ll definitely work up a sweat on this one! The trail was very long and in my families opinion it was not worth the long walk to the tiny waterfall. We hike a lot in other states and have seen some amazing and very large waterfalls and this one happened to be a baby waterfall and for it being such a long walk 5 miles in and out it just didn’t seem worth it! It really wasn’t a waterfall looked like they placed a rock in the water and a stream of water just runs over it lol.

A nice trail but ALWAYS busy. Very steep stair-step type of climb for a long stretch with nice views at the top.

This park was very clean and well organized. The staff were friendly, and the people on the trails were pleasant. There were all sorts of different kinds of people, and it made nice for hiking alone. As for the terrain, I wouldn’t go if you want to just stroll through the woods. There were many handmade stairs and many rocks, and to get up to hanging rock was crazy! I died three times, but when i got to the top it was all worth it. You can hike barefoot for about half the trail if you would like, which i did, and it was comfortable and made for a better grip on the rocks. (At your own risk) the waterfalls weren’t as big as i would have thought but nice to hear the running water down the rocks, but since it was so busy it wasn’t as rewarding due to people being there. I did go on a weekend so that had something to do with it I’m sure. All in all, i enjoyed myself and got an awesome workout. The best things is i got to reflect and appreciate gods creation.

It was okay the trail had some good views and very crowed I would recommend the trail still

Beautiful trail

Absolutely beautiful.

I keep finding myself heading back to 40 acre rock, love this place. Really cool plants inhabit the vernal pools on the rock, some only peek out for a few weeks, flower, and then return to dormancy. The most recent recording I took will ensure that you see just about everything. It includes the walk around the beaver pond, rock formations, the section along the creek, and the waterfall/cave (second stopping point).

Nice views, not too busy mid afternoon. Bring bug spray the water causes mosquitoes.
