Amazing and very rewarding hike!!! Make sure you bring enough water. I ran out right after hitting the top ( I took 1.5 liters) Thankfully I was hydrated enough to walk back down to the falls(probably 4 miles) to get more. Totally worth it!!! I was glad I had trekking poles with me, I would definitely reccomend to do the same!

on Half Dome Trail

Did this hike on July 13th, weather was amazing and we got very lucky to finish this hike before the fire. Definitely an ass kicker but if you’ve trained for it you’re fine. I took 4 liters of water and was fine but my friends took less and filtered water at the river. Apply and reapply sunscreen because the sun is on you for most of the trail. I recommend getting a harness for the cables because although it doesn’t make it easier going up, you do have a sense of security just in case. Take it slow, it’s a great adventure worth taking your time for.. Take lots of pictures and have fun!

HARD TRAIL!! Nothing but switch backs the entire way but the views make it all worth it! You gain about 3,000 feet in elevation. But the higher you get the more the Yosemite Valley starts to reveal itself. It is such a beautiful hike, but be careful, some areas are slippery ( asphalt and sand/dirt combo).

Steep but well worth the amazing views all the way up! We arrived around 830 on a weekday in May and were still able to get parking at the trailhead.

Great hike, not worth it to do it in one day. Try and get a wilderness pass.

Good hike with nice views along the way up. It was a brutal hike with lots of switch backs that go on forever. In my opinion, if you have already been to glacier point and know the views you get up there, then i would personally skip this hike. We were at glacier point the day before for some sunset photos so when we hiked this the following day, it was obviously the same view at the end of the trail. Still awesome of course but didnt have that nice reward with doing all those switchback on the way up. I have a few photos posted in my IG from the trail and glacier point area as well if you would like a perspective for what you'll see.

We started at the bottom, hiked up to Glacier Point, and back down. This trail was a real workout. It starts out rough and stays rough through out most of the trail. There are some really nice and scenic areas to rest and a lot of killer switchbacks. There happened to be a wedding at Glacier Point that day. It was a nice surprise. Congrats and good luck to the couple.

Beautiful but busy

Have any of you hiked the Half Dome after the Ferguson Fire?We are planning to go this weekend and hike on 29th July, but it says that the entire area is very smoky and not advisable for strenous hike

Quick and fun hike with a clear trail. Great views from the top, and a doable hike for a wide range of ages.

Great hike! Take your time up to Nevada falls, things get easier at Little Yosemite Valley... Until Subdome that is. I found Subdome to be more difficult than the cables. It seems like it goes on forever.

Bring good gripping shoes and gloves for the cables! I was at the summit at approximately 9AM, stayed for 15 minutes and encountered lots of hikers on the cables on the way down.

Hiked up via mist trail and down by JMT to lessen the strain on the knees.

Amazing hike, possibly second only to the Panorama-Four mile loop.

Most amazing hike I’ve ever done! Be sure to get a hiking permit from the national park website. They have a park ranger at the cables making sure that if you climb to the top, that you have a permit. If you start from half dome village and go to the top of half dome and back down...it’s about 18.5 miles round trip. Prepare yourself.

Tips:
At least 3 liters of water
Harness with carabiner or some way to clip in to the cables.
Rubber gripped gloves to climb the cables
Extra socks
Gu energy as snacks
Hiking poles are not a must but a HUGE help.

Go slow and drink lots of water. And don’t quit!

Nice shady stroll in the forest. Nice lake to sit next to but not a “must do” in Yosemite. Over all very nice and easy hike. Also when I did it there was no-one there

Nice little nature trail some steep portions but really nice view points. Great for pictures and a nice view of Tenaya Lake.

Hike of a lifetime! Sure as hell the hardest one I've ever done, but things like this make me want to sleep in a tent the rest of my days. My buddy Huston's watch said 18 miles from our campground 5 minutes from the Mist Trail in Upper Pines. Left at 5 a.m., summited around 12:30, stayed up top for 30, then got down in about 2 hours. 4 of 6 of my party did the cables, not too bad, the stairs beforehand are worse. Just put that body on autopilot, but don't forget to look up or else you might miss it!

Great hike. Very doable, but for those that aren’t in the best shape, 6 miles with a pack will feel like you accomplished something. And the reward of going in the lake when you get there is the cherry on top. Small lake. You will be near others, but should be able to find your own space.

What an excellent hike and overall experience! The hard work is certainly paid off with the views at the top.

We started the day at 3:45am from Upper Pines campground. We reached the cables around 9am and the summit at 9:30. Starting early is the best advice we received as there were only a handful of people on the cables and a dozen or so at the top. Traffic on the sub-dome had picked up considerably by the time we were descending. We returned to camp at 3:15 with plenty of time for a soak in the mighty Merced River alongside camp to assist in recovery!

Start early, bring ample water and food and enjoy the hike! 55,000 steps on the pedometer for the day...

We took the bus up to the top and hiked down, amazing views along the way. It took us 5 hours because we stopped and took so many pictures. Great views of half dome and Yosemite Falls. Hike early in day to avoid heat....there is a nice breeze though.

Not too crowded when my sister and I went in May. It was quite an incline but very beautiful and peaceful at the top.

This is a real review for what to expect going UP to Glacier Point and back down not just down. First, total distance is 9.72 miles. Second, it is very strenuous and you need to be in good physical condition to take this on. Take plenty of water and start early, especially during the summer. The views are worth it but the switchbacks will test you.

Bring plenty of water. Leave very early in the day. Pack light. Know that the cables are very challenging should you get that far!

Yosemite disappoints and this hike is no exception! We went up via the JMT and came back via the Mist Trail. Subdome and the cables are an adrenalin rush that lasts for days! love love love. ❤

My 13 year old daughter and I started at 5 am. It took us 11 hours and 15 minutes with about 45 minutes at the top. We didn't bring enough water and ran out at about 10 hours. It is hot coming down. If I did it again, I would start even earlier. Definitely bring gloves.

This trail has amazing views. I'd say way better than Upper Yosemite Falls. My group took the shuttle up so I only hiked down this trail from Glacier Point (lol). I'd say it was not a strenuous hike at all downhill but was definitely not easy for those out of shape (like myself, haha). The views were just magnificent on this trail and so worth it going up or down. Bring plenty of water if it's a hot day and food, this one will still take awhile even if you're just going down :P

It’s 4miles to the Union Point. 7 miles to the Glacier Point from the Valley Floor

Great hike
