Such an incredible workout, I alternate from ridge line Nd Beverly canyon to Pima wash to javelina, always exciting!

Little to no shade. recommend doing it early in the AM or late at night during summer months. Fats Man Pass and the tunnel were fun to explore! I did this with 3 friends of mine. It took us awhile due to the heat and time of day. bring lots of water

So fun. Always try to hike here when it’s raining because the water flows are amazing! Just a great short hike!

Sunrise is a great hike with light traffic. I access it using the Ringtail Trail that is further East of Lost Dog Wash Trail. The downside to this trail is that it’s really rocky which can be difficult to navigate for those not used to the desert terrain. Otherwise a great view at the top and have always met great fellow hikers on this trail. Definitely worth hiking, running and some even bike it, but it gets pretty tough the closer you get to the top.

it is fun hike but a bit crowded and some people talk during the hike.. which is not very relaxing to hear non-stop talking..
But hike is fun itself. try to start before the sunrise you will be fine. and bring more than 1 bottle of water per person.

Go early because it gets HOT! Very little shade, bring plenty of water. Views are nice, little traffic while I was there.

Great hiking trail that offers awesome views of Sedona in a very peaceful setting. Easy access from 89. Recommend that you do the "loop"...but definitely go up the summit that is shown on the map as a "dead end". Quick walk up with excellent panaramic view.

While the “trail” did display BEAUTIFUL views it was BEYOND a hard rating for me and the group that I was with, and we ARE NOT novices at “hiking”. This was more mountain climbing than hiking to us. The trail was unmarked after a certain point and quite dangerous out a few points in my opinion. Maybe we had gotten “off trail” at one point on the way down but I was seriously praying that I wouldn’t die!!! There was literally nowhere to get my footing or nothing to hold to. It was serious rick climbing!!!

Again the trail was beautiful once we got to the inside of the mountain but it needs to be marked A LOT better and that rating should be extremely difficult. This was a once in a lifetime hike for me. Glad I survived it!!!

This trail is great for kids. Took my 6 yr old there and he was entertained the entire time. The rock structures are really fun (tunnels, sliding rocks, ...). We did make it a day-long picnic trip though since it is pretty long (well, with a 6 yr old ...).
Highly recommanded (but not in summer !)

Great trail for hiking and mountain biking. If you do decide to bring the MTB be sure to come super early to avoid the crowds. Most single hikers will have headphones and not notice you're coming up behind them till the very last minute. Trail offers great views though and you'll only have to "hike a bike" once or twice.

did this trail this morning kiks my butt every time!but its a great hike!

Great hike! Neat view of the valley. The morman trail itself is easy to follow, the loop part is not very well marked in my opinion. Definitely good to have a map on hand and extra water.

easy going trails for beginners.
love that its soo local but the parking lot gets full at peak hours.

I did this trail March 12, it was around 78 degrees and no wind. It’s a strange trail because you go up to a high point and down to a housing development. Then you turn around and go back up and down to your car. The climbers path to the summit tower is a steep direct path.

The views are great, just a little too crowded. Overall a decent workout with some viewing of wildlife along the trail.

Challenging enough for a good workout this morning, but I’d still consider this a moderate hike. The scenery and views were great. I’d agree with those that said it was closer to 4.6 miles (which took us a little over two hours). I’d suggest plenty of water, wearing a hat, and going in the morning or in the early evening. The sun was no joke (although the breeze was nice and kept things okay until the last 15 min of our hike). The lot was full when we got there and the overflow lot’s gate was broken. We illegally parked in a neighborhood and felt guilty, but weren’t sure what to do. Oh, I’d also suggest having good walking shoes, or even trail shoes as it is a little precarious at points. Last 1/4 mile to the peak is the most challenging and not for those without sure footing. Worth it though, would recommend.

Like others have said, this is a classic Arizona trail and is popular among locals and tourists- there are even resorts nearby that offer tours to their guests. The trail is well maintained and clearly marked. It gives you a decent workout, but isn't overly strenuous; my dad and great uncle are both in their 60s and did just fine. It's really popular for running, so be aware that this will be crowded most of the time.

Not difficult, but a great trail through the South Mountain area with lots of offshoots for different trails. I did get off trail somehow, but due to lots of people around and high visibility, I wasn't concerned. I'll definitely do this one again!

first time I've gone hiking in quite a long time so it was honestly to difficult for me after the first climb. had to turn around. but I would love to do it again when I'm in better shape. great views and beautiful sunrise.

Solid hike and a great workout as there are some steep inclines at times. Incredible views of downtown Phoenix, Sky Harbor Airport, and the rest of the metro area.

This is the best short steep hike ever! I’ve been doing it for years and I’m obsessed.

I love this trail!

Great moderate trail to a beautiful view.

Nice moderate uphill hike, quite craggy. The final ¼ mile up to the peak is just as the signs indicate, narrow and steep, but not overly so. I'm a flip flop hiker and had no issues ascending or descending. Great shade spot on the peak for a quick break if extending this trail to Lost Dog Wash (nice easygoing extension). Also, keep an eye out for the larger lizards just a little before the first landing. Overall a nice hike.

Awesome experience. Challenging in so many ways, and the views from the summits are worth it.

Straight up. Do it slowly and make sure you have sturdy shoes as rocks and stones quite sharp
