Good hike, rather busy with other people and bikers, but well worth the effort.

Awesome hike, the rock gardens were amazing. Still lots of smoke which trapped humidity in the trees and created a sauna. Bring more water than you need!! At least 3-4L, especially if it’s hot. Mountain lion was spotted on our descent. Beautiful flowers out and birds - enjoy!

This is a great hike and I definitely would recommend! The first trail to the valley is pretty flat and covered and great for biking. It’s more of a long walk then a hike at this point.

Once you get to the open valley it gets a little tricky trying to follow the trail signs to the other side. I recommend downloading a copy of AllTrails map to help you through as that’s the only way we made it. The valley gives incredible views of the mountains but be warned there is ALOT of water to walk through and many heavy streams to jump so wear water proof shoes. Especially right now it is very wet.

The next section of the hike is a steady uphill climb to the top. This is covered so not a lot of worry with the sun but lots of bugs as motivation to keep moving. Bring that bug spray! Once you get to the top it is a lot better so it’s worth it going quick! The top gives an amazing view of the valley and the ridge. There are a few more hikes that branch off from the top however any camping or trail riding require permits for Banff National Parks.

I would say this is a great moderate hike for any experienced or “getting back into it” hiker. I would definitely recommend going early and bringing your family or pets. Also I think his would be amazing in the fall with the larches! Round trip 4.5 hours with stopping for lunch.

Fantastic trail to a gorgeous mountain meadow with meandering stream and varying degrees of waterfalls. We went with a friend, and between us had children between ages of 4-9. It was a fairly easy hike for all of them, with a bit of hand-holding for the youngest. We loved all the wildflowers still in bloom.
Always bring a sweater when you're in the mountains!

Very steep but very rewarding with a great view. Took us about 5 hours to complete

Gorgeous hike, steady uphill into the Cirque the amazing views around the loop. Option to go higher/farther into the Cirque. Lots of people, we started at 11, and by 1230 the parking lot was overfilling

The view up top is amazing!

I would rate this 'moderate' as opposed to 'hard'. Not too steep in the forest region (which is the majority of the hike), but when you start reaching the top it gets pretty steep. But for the most part, I found it fairly moderate and very enjoyable. Beautiful views at the top. An awesome way to spend a Sunday!

Great for a short first hike with family and dogs!

Insanely hard, well worth it. Amazing views, bring more water than you think you’ll need

Great short hike. Weather was around +14 and a little Smokey our. I arrived at 9:45am and there was plenty of parking available, the hike was not busy until on our way back. Then it got busy and the parking lot was full. Took it slow as I had my puppy with me. It took us about 2 hours to complete with breaks.

Great hike! Went with kids ranging from 3-12. Beautiful scenery and worth the small grind at the beginning.

Absolutely stunning valley. I did this hike with my dad in October 2017 and it was beautiful with yellow larches scattering the surrounding mountains. Highly recommended for anyone who loves the mountains but doesn't love heights.

excellent hike! the initial downhill descent was deceiving, but it gradually climbed from there. Great hike through the trees, the path was nice and wide. I did not donthe final climb to thr viewpoint, only to the too of the first. I found it to be difficult but once at the top, the views were great! did this hike round trip (including stopping for lunch at the top) in 5 hours. My fitbit calculated this hike to be 15km (without going thr extra distance to the viewpoint)

This was a good hike. Well marked trail, beautiful views of the mountains at the top. When you get to the last little trail don’t stop! It looks deceiving but go for it! It’s worth it. It wasn’t too hard but you will get tried on your hike back up to the parking lot.

Did this trail at the beginning of June. Other reviews weren’t kidding; very strenuous from the get-go. I only made it to where the “90%” of hikers make it too, and then I wigged out and couldn’t really go past the point when you’re looking down both sides of the ridge at once! Due to the nature of the ridge it’s uphill both ways pretty much! Still an amazing hike.

Hiked this twice so far this summer and loved it. excellent meadow for lunch and relaxing time. Pretty easy hike, bit of an incline.

Loved this hike! Get on the trail and power it up! Definitely some character building moments but those make for the best summits! Mountains 360. Highly recommend this hike for those considering a solo hike

Drive down yesterday and found the trail closed due to grizzly activity :(

Wowzers! This one was a challenge for me! I’m getting back into being active soo this one was tough tough tough.. I managed to make it to the switchbacks but turned back before climbing further! Going is not so bad but coming back is brutal. A lot of downhill on loose rock path. Definitely got a workout coming down and of course as you come back and get closer to parking, you have to go up the really big hill that you came down starting. Keep that in mind when hiking. Save some strength for the end! I managed to get through all the while dealing with foot pain (prior injury) however.. the hike is beautiful! Will definitely going to be coming back and concur the mountain up to the fire lookout!!

If you keep a reasonable pace without stopping and spend a short period at the top this hike can be completed in around 4 hours.

Cougar Creek parking is always free and open. Trail is easy to find but there are several ways up and down - just keep moving because they all meet up.

Ascent is steep but rewarding and the view is fantastic.

The descent is not as enjoyable unless you bring walking poles or you descent at a faster rate!

This is what I would call the perfect classic hike. It offers a bit of everything from a few lakes in the beginning to a creek with waterfalls, interesting varying terrain, a bit of minor route finding as you cross the flood plains/marsh land (there is poles with markers but hard to see - cross this area diagonally heading left - and some water shoes or sandals would be helpful some of the creeks are a little wide but very easy to cross) it also offers some challenging spots and plenty of flat beautiful meadows to rest up before the next push with insane views of fairly aggressive peaks at the top, and they’re so close, lastly even a glacier to view at the top. Do this hike. It took us 5.5 hours with lunch and breaks and picture stops. If you use the AllTrails map it will take you about a kilometre past your destination point. You know when you are at the top - stop there, if you continue on past the sign that says your entering Banff Park as the map says to do, it takes you to a little ridge that is nowhere near as spectacular as the views you just passed.. This trail continues on to Leman Lake in Banff if you want to extend. We ended up following the map and added some time and km to our day that was unnecessary. Our day was 18.1 km with 541 elevation gain. I’d rate this trail moderate for a hiker with some practice and of normal fitness and moderate difficult for someone new or less fit but everyone can do it and should. Just take your time. Its very worth it. Join us on Facebook at Hike Alberta to see pics and get info on all Alberta Hikes, and hike.alberta on instagram

Really great hike. The views are insane!! One of my best hikes ever!

Loved this hike. A little steep through the trees to get your lungs and legs firing but it's over fast and then there’s nothing crazy after that. Lots of different scenery, saw a couple of marmots too. Still some snow to check out at the top even in August. Beautiful, quick trek.

great hike, lots of ups, downs and flat spots so you can pound it out pretty easily. rewarding views.

Beautiful afternoon walk with the family! Perfect for a nice picnic at the top!

What a beautiful hike. Worth the reward once at the fire lookout at the very top. A bit of a rocky hike. Took us 4.5 hours.

Very steep switchbacks makes for a difficult, but very rewarding hike. It took us about 3 hours to get to the helipad on a hot day, when we were stopping a lot with a thirsty dog (and some tired hikers haha). I would not recommend this hike for beginners or those who are not in decent physical shape. Bring lots of water!

Beautiful views of a meadow and some wildflowers along the way and we saw a mountain goat, as well.
