Great hike on a beautiful day right after the first snow. I agree with the other reviews on it not being all that easy. it's reasonably steep but worth it.

such a beautiful trail. can't wait to go back

had a great time. alot of water on the trail but it is November so expected some.
crossing the big streams was challenging but didn't stop us

Great trail, packed dirt most of the way. Steep enough to get a workout, but not too much. Beautiful Ponderosa pines!

This is a 10 mile hike to the big waterfall, definitely not 7.5 so plan accordingly. We planned for the 7.5 mile hike and ended up finishing in the dark. There we’re a few of us who misplanned and ended the trip in the pitch black. It’s absolutely stunning, though. Spectacular views throughout the hike.

10/27/18. Overcast conditions but clouds were high enough that we had good views across the valley. Pretty flat trail until the last 1/4 which is very steep. 3 hours round trip if you walk fast. Roads in very good conditions.

Hiked on 10/21 and it was a perfect day to do so. The first few miles were very flat so a nice warm up to where the elevation starts. We also went to rampart lakes and some of the little lakes were a little frozen probably from not getting much sun. It was super cold when we started at around 8ish but warmed up as soon as we started to walk. I saw about 6 dogs and only one was on a leash. I understand that your dog might be well behaved but some people get really nervous around them specially if they are not in a leash. Im one of them. I saw dog poop bags too which was super disappointing I wish people would just carry their dog poop and not leave it for people to see. There were not many people so it was nice. I didn’t really think it was a hard hike more Like a moderate hike.

Superb weather. Last Saturday was a very busy day with substantial hikers and we had to park down the road from trail-head. Road off of Hwy 2 to the trail-head had numerous washboard areas but manageable pot holes.

Trail conditions were very good. The hike was excellent but very strenuous from the right turn as you head up Mt. McCausland to the summit rock. Had several younger parties resting at intervals on the way up so it made me feel like I was doing ok. The views are spectacular and I liked this vantage point of the Cascades better than the Beckler Peak hike outside of Skykomish. Knees were sore as I headed down and throughout the switchbacks to the trail-head entrance. For my reward I headed to Leavenworth around 5pm for Brats & Brew.

Awesome views all around.

Went up to the Rampart lakes yesterday and there was no ice or snow. It was perfect!

Great Hike, beware of ticks, we hiked with our two dogs and we had several ticks on us and pulled 9 of them off of our dogs. Great hike with some pretty steep parts, may be a little bit harder than moderate for some, but worth it.

No bugs, just a few nice people, a perfect alpine lake. What more do you want?

Obstacles include mud at the bottom followed by a very steep climb up to Rachel and then the fork to Lila / Rampart / Alto. It’s a full click more rugged than trails with more switchbacks and better trail work.

Warning is I got confused on leaving Lila lake as there’s several trails out, so be sure to have a map. One option is screen shots of the all trails map, or of course buying all trails pro. There’s no cell service out there and very few people on a weekday, so be ready to be self sufficient. Apple had “helpfully” offloaded my compass app so I was without that. The ground at Lila is partly frozen so I imagine an unprepared overnight would not be fun. Fortunately I figured it out by back tracking and got to the car at nightfall.

great hike! sooo much to see. did the hike clockwise, which i recommend especially with kids. the lower loop has so much history and the upper loop has great views.

Serene and perfect for a weekend afternoon

Great hike! I clocked in 8 miles with 2400 ft in gain. Great views at iron peak, will do again sometime!
Went on a beautiful October Saturday, only ran into three groups, 2 groups of 2 & a group of 7. It never felt crowded though. Road was fine for an vehicle. Lots of washboard made for a bumpy ride! My sedan made it up NO problem.

So much to see and explore! Went with 2 dogs, they loved it.

The trailhead had a sign saying the trail is closed from Oct. 14 to Mar. 21. Great trail with awesome views. Logging was taking place between Glacier Peak and Sauer's summit, so just a tad of bush whacking was needed to go around that. Would love to do it again and go farther North to the other peaks beyond Sauer.

Amazing colours. Not lots of people. No bugs. A bit muddy. Better to wear waterproof walking boots.
At Rachel lake, got a bit lost but found the trail to Lila lake. Look for a small sitting area just before reaching the edge of the lake. There is a sign with “trail” written on it. I was alone at Lila lake. Just beautiful. A bit cold up there in spite of the sun.

Great hike. Showed up as 6.5 on the GPS, but would have been a little less if I didn’t pull off for all of the views. The first 2 miles are mostly in the forest, with a few views here and there. It really opens up after the trail splits from the PCT. Then it is hard to put away the camera/phone because every step gives a new stunning perspective. The climb to the peak is very steep, just take it slow, there are plenty of rewards along the way and at the top. There is a guest book at the end of the trail. This is a very popular place to hike, so be prepared to see a lot of hikers on the weekend.

Overall great hike. Was able to get to Rachel Lake yesterday (10/7) but not all the way to Rampart. Around 4500' we started to encounter some snow patches. Snow on the trail was compacted down to around an inch for a couple of the last switch backs. Extremely difficult to pass without poles because it is VERY slippery. We were able to do it without poles, but only very slowly and almost face planted several times.

If going on a weekend, be sure to get there early, as the parking lot fills quickly.

To start we are not experienced hikiers....We went October 6th, the temperature was great for hiking. We drive a Honda Fit was was worried we weren't going to make it up the road once we hit the gravel, lots of large holes to avoid. Once there the first mile or so was good then we started hitting snow, the footing was ok as long as you had shoes with good traction. The last mile or so to the lake was very steep and with the snow cover,we thought about turning around a couple times, but had come so far we decided to go for it. The lake was beautiful. On the way back the footing was mostly slush and pretty slippery. Overall I would do this hike again, but would definitely go a little earlier in the year, as having better footing would have made it more enjoyable.

Unforgettable hike! Took us about 3hrs round trip, lots of stops and a few curse words were used. Although I have to say even though my knees are aching and calves are screaming, I don't regret this one bit! It is now one of my favorite hikes! The trail is pretty well maintained. You gain quite a bit of elevation in the beginning, the middle is relatively flat, and the end is a PAIN! Road up is only 3 miles off HWY 2, made it in a low clearance vehicle no problem. Just watch for potholes and washboard!

Hiked here on a Saturday, 10/06/2018. Got to the trailhead around 830am, and only 4 cars were there. The trail had snow about 5 inches high. I didn’t have my spikes but wish I had them. After the first half a mile the trail is all snow until the Lake.

Easy ride, not much elevation gain, no steep drop offs but LOTS of hikers. The lake itself is beautiful! Would definitely recommend going on a weekday when there may be less traffic on the trail.

Good hike in general, great for running too. Greatly maintained, pretty cool tunnels.

Beautiful well worth the hike to fisher lake!

This was a very decent trail for just getting out and enjoying the fresh air. I went when it was overcast and even a bit rainy, so a tad bit of sunshine would've been nice.

Going up to the parking, there was a very large dip in the driveway. Didn't really seem to be a problem for anyone though. Saw one car that might've stayed behind.

The effort was 100% worth the reward. Stayed the night next to the lake. Woke up to a beautiful morning. Fall colors were everywhere. Could not have done this hike at a better time of the year.
