PLEASE READ AND UPDATE ALLTRAIL!!!

One star for App accuracy! 5 stars for beauty!

To begin with, do not follow Google Maps to the trailhead. The road you want is the same road as the “Willow Bay Restaurant”. As of today (8/18/18) logging operations have the normal road totally closed off or dead ended. Take the road past the Willow Bay Restaurant and stay right until you see the first post labeled “Hunt Lake” and an arrow for direction. From that point you will need a fairly high clearance vehicle. (There was a Ford Escape SUV with broken rocker panels because of the depth of the washouts)

As far as this app is concerned; it’s useless. The starting point and end point for this trail is correct, but everything in between is off. Ignore the “trail line” in the app completely and just follow the markers (flags and paint marks).

The trail itself should really be updated to “hard” or “difficult”. I’ve hiked many trails in the Northwest and done my fair share of rock climbing, and this trail is tough. The ENTIRE trail is on boulders. Okay.... 90% of the “trail”. I use the term “trail” loosely here because what you’re doing is looking ahead to the next marker, and then playing a high stakes game of hopscotch for 1.5 miles.

The lake is beautiful and well worth the trip, and know you will never do another hike like this. Just read this and hopefully you won’t get misdirected and burn up most of your day looking for an actual trail.

Love this hike!!

Fun hike today! New to the area, hiked it solo. Felt super comfortable the whole time. A lot of friendly ppl on the path too.

Great trail to take with our 7 and 4 year old.

We went with our dog and 18 month old on my husband's back. Trail is unmarked, we ended up going down some mountain bike trails, and came out in a neighborhood after an hour. It wasn't especially difficult, just easy to get lost.

I hiked it July 1st. i did it, but i am a climber. There will be to much snow (dangerous) until about mid July unless you have an ice axe and know how to use it. Nice hike with nice views. The trail, before I hit the snow, was in good shape.3 miles is a really short trail.

Hiked it in June 26, 2018. Still some snow in the trail, but the views were spectacular! This will be a once a year hike for us.

Beautiful views! Very dusty, and a lot of bees. There are a couple places where the trail splits, but just stayed on the widest trail and made it to the top no problem. The trail is basically all uphill, but not too steep.

Well marked trail and a change up from the normal adventures around Mount St Helens

There are 2 levels to this cave. The main tube (I think it's the lower cave) is really easy walk. We got bored with it and turned around. The other level ( upper cave) is pretty rough. The Rangers said that it is for more experienced cavers. People have had to be rescued due to concussions, broken bones and getting stuck. There's a wall that you have to climb over. Once you do that, there is no turning back and you have to continue onward. This was our first cave, so we didn't do that one. This is info that the Rangers shared with us. Have fun, but be careful!

SO MUCH FUN. I’m so used to trail hiking that this was such a fun break! We did the lower cave first, then walked up the hill and went DOWN the upper cave rather than up. The rock scrambles in the upper cave are so cool and tons of fun to climb up, but going DOWN there are a few 6-8 foot drops you have to get down that are a little complicated (I needed help down one of them because I couldn’t reach the foothold). USFS and NW Forest Passes not sold on site from what I could see, so make sure you buy ahead of time. I used a flashlight and the flashlight on my phone because I left my headlamp at home. Would definitely suggest a headlamp, possibly gloves, and hiking boots to make your life a little easier on the way. Also FOR SURE dress in layers! The caves hang out at about 45*F year round! Lots of bruises from the rocks but it was totally worth it, one of my favorite adventures I’ve done to date!

Well maintained trail with great views.
I wish people wouldn’t cut the switchbacks though, sad!

Road was closed 1 mile past the turn off onto FS 6550. Up until that point the road was in really good shape.

Just completed my first time to Beehive Lake and I can tell you...beautiful lake. It was almost exactly 4.5 miles into the lake and the same out. Trail is good, some spots narrow with brush and last half mile up a rock face...but well marked with cairns. I will tell you...moderate is a little forgiving for this hike. I am 47 and in average shape, and this was a tough hike in...but swimming in the lake made it worth the hard work. Not a lot of camp sites, but worth making it an overnight trip...star gazing was incredible and so was the fishing! Highly recommend for those in decent shape, looking for high mountain swimming, fishing and star gazing!

Great hike with a lot of shade. I'm a local and have hiked Kamiak a lot. There's not much difference in "toughness" so I don't think this hike should really be considered "easy." In my opinion, an easy hike is something that someone who is not in shape at all should be able to do. There are a few service roads you can venture off on, as well. So, we turned a 5 mile hike into 6.9 miles. Great fun - just watch out for cyclists.

Awesome hike! We took our 5 year old and he did awesome. There were some hard parts with climbing rocks but he made it through the whole trail! I suggest flash lights, gloves for climbing the rocks and hiking boots, no flip flops.

lots of very pretty scenery, the big rocks, sign, and swing were pretty neat and were a good reward for the short hike. Lots of bees, they appeared to be black bumble bees and were all over in the the side stops and at the top. the foliage was very pretty and had a few plants i hadn't seen too often.

hard upper caves. but worth it

This started off as a great hike! There were no other people and we came across a deer just off the trail. However, like other reviews have said before, the trail is not marked and getting lost is extremely easy. We ended up only doing half of the loop on one side of the road and got to 4 miles. However, this includes our detour when we thought we were on the right trail. Thankfully we had the app and there was service or we would have been lost. Make sure you take a map or have access to the route as you go so you don't end up lost!

Very fun. New sights around every corner. Great semi-private beaches to take a dip at. Love this hike.

First time hiking here and loved It! Great maintained trail, perfect for the dog. The beginning is all uphill then will decline downhill to a meadow full of butterflies. I hiked this August 4th and got an early start. Plenty of shade and places along the creek to hang your hammock. About 4 or so miles in the trail gets muddy and trail is covered in water. Didn't see any wildlife, but the Wasps and hornets are bad. It was challenging to rest without them swarming us. I loved this hike and look forward to going back.

This is a gorgeous hike once you reach the top and in a few spots along the trail. It was extremely dusty when we went in early August!!! The dust was so bad, it made me have a coughing fit for a lot of the trip. If you’re sensitive to dust, this is not a great hike for you... at least not during the summer. I imagine it is muddy, rather than dusty in the spring. The views at the top are so worth the trek. Our dog also loved this trail... lots of water stops for her. We only saw one truck, one dirt bike, and one group of hikers while there.

Beautiful trail! The beginning wanders along the creek and provides shade and cool temps under the forest foliage. Plentiful waterfalls soothe ears and eyes. Later, the hike goes uphill. For those who feel tentative on hills, hiking poles might be helpful. The many interpretative signs tell the story of Ed Pulaski and western wildfires.

Very pleasant morning stroll. Also in a calm safe area. No overnight camping at the trailhead however spacious.

Enjoyed the hike. A bit hazy from the smoke, but still very beautiful. Went off on the Wilson trail for a ways. Nice viewpoints from there.

Beautiful hike! Beautiful lake. Nice mix of of up hill and some nice flat spots too. We thought it was about 8 miles round trip even though it says it’s 5.7 my body says it was longer.

great hike! highly recommend for hikers!

Great little loop trail with some nice views at the top. Was great for a quick morning hike, definitely would do this trail again.

I've been running this the last couple days with my dogs off leash and there is rarely anyone on it. it's kept clean and I really like it. it's nice to have a little bit of nature in the big city!
