great trail. well maintained. liked the different terrains. very quiet and peaceful.

a mini favorite ..great for a quick brisk mostly shady walk when you have only a little time

Lovely hike for a mid-summer hike! The trail was balanced with both hills and flat areas. The trail is gravel/dirt and narrow with overgrown brush in areas. Most of the trail is shaded. We saw countless elk, deer, and turkey along the trail. At times we had to take an alternate route to avoid disturbing the wildlife on the trail. We inspected ourselves after the hike and found we were covered in hundreds of seed ticks on us despite DEET insect repellent. We drove through the bison area but didn’t have any sightings. We will return again soon!

Fun trail to run. A couple of those hills are just plain evil which is always a plus. The trail is marked pretty well and was maintained for the most part. There was a small overgrown section and a downed tree on the path. I'll definitely come back to this one again.

I ran just over 19 miles of this segment of the trail. Not the most exciting, but it is flat and offers a mix of small town and rural scenery with a couple views of the river.

This park is great for easy bike riding ! Beautiful and interesting! There’s even soft drink vending and rest rooms

One of my girlfriend and I's favorite place to go :) Lots of views and you can see alot of deer on the lower levels. highly recommend for anyone, friendly for all ages

First hike, great experience! Panoramic views. We started at the east and ascended via the stairs. They are well maintained and really get the blood pumping. A few more inclines made for a great hike. Cooled down with the Meramec river trail.

First 1/4 to 1/2 mile a little tough but rest of trail easy enjoyable

Awesome trek. Deer, turkey, elk and mostly wooded.

Great views and photo opportunities

On a cold December weekend a couple of friends and I took a "dads getaway" overnight hike. We linked the Hawn trail system together to make a large loop. It was about 17 degrees overnight. It was wonderful. Few other people on the trail. This terrain has a few rugged sections to get you breathing, and lots of gentle variable terrain, and very pleasant walking. In the winter it was beautiful.

Amazing views all around this trail! As a big dude the end is tough but extremely rewarding!

Great trail for kids! The beginning of the trail is a little exhausting if you aren’t used to elevation, but the rest is easy breezy! Beautiful views and photo opps. Lots of puppers on the trail so be on alert if your dog isn’t used to making friends.

Easy trail for small children. Playgrounds and Restrooms are available. Good for kids and pets.

Loved the River Scene Trail and the rugged path at the beginning of the hike. Bathrooms at the park were pristine clean. Very enjoyable!

Good hike. I thought I would mention in this app to stay at least 100 ft from the elk. There were several on the trail. People have been gored by the elk, granted one group was trying to take a selfie with the elk so some are related to clueless hikers. Be extra careful during mating season which is mid-August through December when the elk are particularly aggressive.

Very nice walk through the Elk’s habitat. The trail is a nice gravel and dirt path, shaded, and well marked. We were able to observe many elk grazing and laying around along with many varieties of birds.
You are also able to see the bison but only from your car as they are in a different part of the park.

Very nice short hike. Giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because of lack of green blazes. As mentioned in another recent review, the creek crossing isn’t marked well and the last bit just before the return to the parking lot, map lines did not match visible trails. You must follow red blazes to Whispering Pines trailhead (parking lot).

Hawn State Park, MO. Fun hike. The Pickle Creek portion of the trail required concentration on your footing to navigate the rocks. The Whispering Pines portion of the loop was up on a ridge with a couple of nice views. We were able to make a couple of stops to do some wading in the cool, clear water. We saw fish, crawdads, and a snake. It was a good day.

Would definitely not rate this as “Moderate.” The trail is very well marked and relatively easy. Great views from the bluff & alone the river. Crowded on the weekend, but that’s to be expected.

Nice winding trail, very peaceful. Has some stretches that I would love to come back and run. Also, according to the paper map provided on-trail, it is 14 miles.

Beautiful!

Beautiful scenery of the Meramec River and the valley... somewhat crowded but worth the hike!

This is the most beautiful hike in the St Louis area.

Good trail with a couple of good inclines. We drove through the whole park first and saw some Bison and Elk. Saw one doe on the trail though we went at Mid-Day.

Beautiful views, well kept, great way to spend your day.
