Wonderful hike. I did it back in April with my husband and it was difficult at the stair part. My second time doing it on Sunday with a girlfriend. Still hard, but better (since I have more hikes in) Encountered a rattlesnake at the top. But made it

This trail was amazing. Quite challenging to complete but the views from the top make the effort absolutely worth it. I wouldn’t recommend this trail for those who are unsure of their footing. My friends and I completed the trail in about 7 hours with many photo breaks and an extended lunch at the top.

Great view at the end! Really enjoyed the scenery along certain sections of the hike mainly at the start. After you reach the rock boulders, it just becomes more of a slog to summit. Was overall quite manageable and steady ascent. It does get windy at the top so bring layers. Was quite busy hike.

Started the hike early which was a great choice. Not going to lie, it was tough. But man was it worth it!

I thought this was more of a death march than a hike as you are basically rock jumping for 2 miles up and down which one wrong step is an injury for sure. It takes strategy, balance, and mindfulness to get up and down this mountain. Beautiful views for sure, but you have to stop to enjoy them.

Nice trail, mostly up hill on the way in. Not many places to sit and enjoy the views, but overall it was good. Some mountain bikers, simple just keep a eye open! Have fun

Did this hike 9/9 and it was absolutely gorgeous! I didn’t find it to be too difficult. The toughest part was scrambling through some rocks combined with the elevation gain, but soon enough you make it back on to a trail. Drove straight from the Reno airport and started the hike around 1530 and ended around 1930. Took about a 20 min break at the lake and another 20 min break once we got to the top before descending.

It a pretty fun trail. I’m fairly new to hiking and am a pretty heavy gal so this was a great beginning trail for me. There were a few spots that were slightly challenging but overall it was a beautiful hike. I would recommend hiking down to the stream on the southwest side of the bridge and lookout point, there is a great spot to rest and chill by the creek.

Worth it!

Absolutely stunning! Great hike on many levels. Fun watching top of airplanes as they flew by. Hiked via Glen Alpine trail/Gilmore lake. Really need good boots as the trail is mostly loose rocks. Next time i will definitely eat a big breakfast before hand. you will need all the calories you can get. 100% worth it!

Great hike, easy to moderate. Unfortunately the mine is now blocked off, however, there are many accommodations along the trails including porta potties and tables.

Nice 4h hike, decent views of the river

Beautiful views! Great walking day, not too hard not too easy. Just right !

Beautiful trail. Did it yesterday but the views were largely hidden by smoke form nearby first fires. digging is rough but there are shady parts throughout the hike. we left at 10:00 but wished we had left earlier when it would have been cooler.

Steep hike all the way but the views are definitely worth it. The first landing has amazing views overlooking the gorge. The second landing was completely surrounded by fog so we couldn’t see anything. It was also the steepest part of the hike. Probably could’ve just skipped that and looped down after the first overlook. We chose to go up the “difficult” way and down the “more difficult” side, which worked out well.

This hike truly earns the difficult rating.

The "more difficult" route is hilariously steep, and, for much of the hike, your heels won't be on the ground. Each time it briefly leveled out, 50 feet later it was back to being straight up.

This has to be the most difficult hike I've done to date - I haven't hiked many, but this amount of elevation gain over only 3 miles was honestly insane.

The trail is very well kept going up and down, though there are some rocky areas near the summit that deserve a little caution.

The views at the top are incredible - I can't imagine how beautiful it would be in summer with the flowers in bloom.

Great hike if you really wanna get a workout in. My husband and I went with our 2 dogs. I definitely recommend starting your hike earlier- we got there at 8:30am on a Sunday morning, by the time we left at 1:30pm the whole parking lot was full. Gorgeous views, lots of rocks...like LOTS of rocks, you’re basically walking on rocks the whole time, so wear good hiking shoes/boots!

It was amazing! Definitely a little difficult due to the lose rocks walking on, don’t look down you’ll trip. But beautiful views and totally worth it

on Echo Lakes Trail

Echo Lake is one of the best easy hikes in Tahoe but past Upper Echo Lake is not my favorite because it has lots of scree which makes it challenging to keep your footing while enjoying the view. Ankle support is a must on Upper Echo Lake section. Views are tops & lakes are plentiful past Upper Echo. Heavily trafficked. Lots of climbing on rock steps. Not much shade so avoid in July.

My wife, our Beagle and Vizsla, and I started this awesome but grueling ascent around 9am. We reached the top by 1030am. Don’t shy away from the “more difficult” route, pretty sure either way will be tough and require several stops. Despite the fact that there aren’t any waterfalls, the views of the winding Columbia are hard to beat. Very rewarding and the way down isn’t too rough. Good luck!

Difficult hike, not for the distance but for the elevation gain and the lack on solid ground (hiking on shale for a good portion) but one the most beautiful and rewarding hikes in Tahoe! 10/10 would do again

I love this place it’s cool

Very nice and beautiful trail. Need to do it in a good weather to explore the best views. If you don’t have enough time, you can finish at the cathedral lake and then return.

Deffinetely hard one, especially if you don't have experience. I did it as suggested, going counter clockwise. Will be even harder during the summer, since there is no shade half of the way. Hiking will take you around 3 hours with some stops for pics and breaks. Btw i did the descending part at night 7-925pm.

Beautiful views!

Done this hike twice now and it’s awesome! I recommend going clockwise around the loop (with the switchbacks at the end) so that you can see the lake for longer while you’re on the ridge. Go early if you can since it’s hot and can get crowded.
