Amazing hike into the Pfeifforhorn Cirque area!

Got the opportunity to bust out the snowshoes!

Was very tempted to try for Pfeiff, but another day perhaps ...

Great snowy hike today, Dec. 8. Did not see any moose, saw plenty of tracks. Snowshoes not necessary, but microspikes very helpful. Took a little less than 1 hour to reach 2nd meadow.

This is rated "HARD" but find it to be intermediate; it shares the same trail for the Dry Creek Trail which is rated Intermediate. Went Mid-November 2018 and it took about 2.5 hours with stops for pictures and taking in the views. Trail was a mix of compacted dirt and some loose rocks so wear shoes with ankle support. Trail was clear of snow and there was only one icy spot about 1/4 mile up past the trailcamp meadow. I was easily able to walk through the brush and avoid it. The dead horse is still on the left of the trail just past the post for the 046 trail (on the right). The horse did not smell and was half buried, however my pup's nose had no trouble finding it. Only docking because the signs for the falls didn't exist.

Beautiful hike with amazing views of Timp. We got some directional help at the top to circle around on the Salamander trail which was perfect.

I have probably done this trail 10 times. It is so easy for me to get to from my house and is the perfect distance if you only want to go out for 4 hours.

I used this trail as a training hike for a high-altitude hike in California, and it worked beautifully. I have done it in the warmth of summer and the light snow of late autumn to test my winter hiking gear.

This is a great into hike to the fabulous hikes of Little Cottonwood Canyon with amazing views and an awesome lake to have lunch at before heading back down.

I got plastered by artificial snow makers trying to find the trailhead by the Brighton Ski resort, but once found it was a great hike! It was fairly quick, even with the snowfall on the ground. I loved skipping rocks on the frozen lake and hearing those cool Star Wars noises.

Excellent hike this morning. Predawn start to catch the sunrise from the top. Fresh layer of snow 1-2inches. The streams are frozen over enough to support my 200+lbs. Didn’t attempt the lake although it looked pretty thick. Plenty of deer to be seen and some moose tracks.

We went in November and the trail was rocky for a good portion of the trail and icy in a couple of spots but mostly dry. The falls leaves were mostly fallen. There was little to no signage to point us toward Horsetail Falls but we veered right at the first two forks and then went down a path to the Lower falls. Spectacular views and wonderful to see at dusk. It took us 2.5 hrs to go up and back.

Did this trail yesterday, it hard to follow the trail with the recent snowfall and quite slippery due to icy areas, but worth the challenge and inspiration for capturing both visually and mentally the solitude of this area. Simply beautiful.

Great hike, really beautiful. 3-6 inches of snow and lightly snowing all day. Well worth the uphill climb.

This is a beautiful trail (minus all the horse poop). The signage to the waterfall could be improved! It’s a steep climb but take your time, you will be be rewarded with nature beauty

Easy loop trail with scenic variety of forest, meadow and panoramic views of Timponogos which steal the show. Definitely layer up this time of year, but I was sweating in the sun when protected by the trees. The melting ice also makes the path very muddy and surprisingly slippery, so be careful.

****ATTENTION****

As of October 30 Cecret Lake Trail is closed. In fact, the only road to the trail is closed for construction.

The water fall has dried out , but it was nice and easy hike . I enjoyed it itself

Took the puppers up here today, was a mild hike, views of Timp are amazing, there is a nice mix of shade and openness. It was a quiet trail (Sunday) only came across a couple of people. Was a little muddy in spots from snow melt after the warm weather.

Beautiful trail. Definitely would recommend poles, snow and ice for a solid mile. Would rate this overall as moderate if not for the snow. Only a steep incline for about a mile. Almost made it to upper lake, but snow got a bit too deep without poles. Will be heading back to do again - awesome trail!

Great trial, especially in the winter. I'm 50+ and it is hard though.

This is one of my favorite lakes in the Wasatch. A good all around hike with a fantastic mountain lake at the end, that you can swim in. The trail gets fairly steep in some spots but nothing too bad.

Well established trail, fantastic views of Little Cottonwood, the trail gets pretty steep on the approach to Red Pine. If your feeling adventurous continue past the lake up to a few lakes higher in the valley and get an amazing view of Pfiefferhorn. Went in late September, it got pretty cold and windy higher up. If you do go to the upper lakes, some of them might be dry, but Upper Pine is a worthy sight, one of the most beautiful Wasatch Lakes in my opinion.

Great hike to take the pups on with gorgeous views! Would definitely do the hike again on spring and fall! Mostly shaded single track trail with dirt and some boulders throughout. Had a nice quick stream crossing where you walked over some rocks and boulders to keep your feet dry. Almost all the fall leaves were on the ground already so the backdrop had a lot of bare trees. Not too crowded on a Saturday surprisingly. The drive up the road to the trailhead is pretty rocky and rough which was not very fun but the hike and views were well worth it. Parking lot was small so we parked on the roadside. Was glad to see that they honored the National Parks Pass so we didn’t have to pay any fees.

Nice hike and surprised to find it completely snow covered in late October. The snow made it even more fun, and the trail was still easy to follow.

awesome hike! packed my 9month old and a bag with food and my tenkara fly rod. my wife had a little rough time but did great. The water shed has fish! wild brown trout. they loved the shop vac nymph.

Great trail to take the pup out on! Keep an eye out for the moose about 1/2 way up. He loves to hang out in the thicket by the pines.

Great easy walk around the lake.

So I did this hike today (OCT 14th) with my wife. It was snowing when we pulled up to the lot but we decided to trek on anyway. The views were beautiful. We saw a total of 6 deer (although two of them may have been the same ones just several hours apart). We also saw a moose. The going got tough towards the top because the last mile or so is about .6 mile elevation. Investing in some spikes for the shoes is probably a great idea. Some gaiters are probably not a bad idea but hiking poles definitely help to probe the snow. The lake was frozen and it was gorgeous. I forgot my sunglasses so when the sun came out the snow kinda hurt my eyes! Some hikers that were there before us said the route up to Pfeiferhorn was too tough because the snow was too deep. Overall great trail. Easy to follow.

Moderate climb to get to Lake Mary, but well worth it. We did this about 3 weeks ago when the colors were turning and it was absolutely breathtaking. If you have the time, hike around to the backside of the lake which is less crowded - you can keep going on <0.5 miles more and you will hit the second lake. Beautiful hike, though tends to be popular and a little overcrowded at peak times.
