Very fun and warm afternoon. The hike is mostly shaded with a very well maintained and well marked trail. The trail is moderate but may be hard for anyone with knee issues as a lot of the trail consists of rock making a staircase.
The trail starts at Mather Lodge, we parked in the parking lot, used the nice bathrooms in the lodge and then started the hike. We did take an offshoot trail marked bear caves which extended the hike a bit. It took us one hour to get to the falls and back. There are nice rocks by the falls to have a picnic or rest for awhile.
We didn’t see any snakes but when we got back to the trailhead a woman spotted a snake and screamed, we were happy to be done with the trail at that point.

Good trail approx. 4mi around. Rickety chain and wood suspension bridge. Plenty of great photo opts along the creek. Falls dry this time of year. Some light bouldering. Lake just off the trail. Nice places to swim water nice and refreshingly cold this time of year. I’d do this trail again in the spring or fall to get the waterfalls experience.

Did this hike last fall before I was a member.. cooler weather was definitely a plus, loved the hike. Great smells, cool breezes, fall colors in swing.

Lots of fun crevices to explore. Great for the whole family.

I drove down from Memphis in hopes of getting close to the waterfall. I was led to a trail start that overlooked a valley where I could only hear the waterfall, but there was no visible way down to get close to the fall. I heard what sounded like people below who were possibly hiking to the fall, but no one seemed to know how to get to where they were. I was quite disappointed. I saved up and planned for this trip and saw nothing related to a waterfall.

YES!!! This hike is a must!!! We did this hike with our 4 sons ages 6-11. They did fine. Pack water and good hiking shoes. Check out the pictures! I would suggest stopping at the cemetery on you drive in. The Whitaker’s are buried there. Kinda cool. They lived in he 1830’s.

We went mid-May and it was perfect! Beautiful trail and great for the entire family. The water was a bit cold to swim in, but that didn’t defer the kids!!

I did this hike with my 11yr old son and we really enjoyed it. The trail is nice and shaded for the most part. The highlight is obviously the waterfall and even though it wasn't gushing, it was still beautiful. We spent some time just enjoying that area and taking pics before returning. Be prepared to scramble over some large rocks if you want to get closer to the waterfall. The return is steep at the end as you travel up several switch backs to get back to the lodge where the trail begins. It was steep but not that bad for us. I think we stopped maybe once for a drink of water. I could see it being more troublesome for people with knee or other joint issues. The hike took us a total of 1.5 hours including time hanging out at the waterfall. Great hike and I would love to return sometime after some rain.

Nice trail marked very well. scenic views and cool caves. creek and waterfall was dry due to lack of rain though. Will return in fall for fall colors. Gradual inclines but still a great workout!

The view is like none other! Can’t wait to come back with more family members and friends!

Such a beautiful view from the crag- definitely one of this most peaceful and amazing places I have ever been. There are no restrooms near the trail head, so make sure you use them before you head to the trail. The drive to the trail head is VERY steep and on a narrow dirt road, so be on the lookout for other cars on your way up & down. Fairly easy hike, with a few steeper hills. We went on a weekday morning at 9:00 and there was no one on the trail!

Some steep inclines and rocky climbs but great! Benches along the way right after long stretches are nice. The waterfall wasn’t running because it’s super hot and dry in July, but the water felt nice.

Moderate-difficult hike. View from the top is excellent. Carry plenty of water especially during summer months.

As everyone said. The waterfall is gorgeous. The stairs back up are brutal.

The cave was super relaxing. You can access this trail from the boy scout loop

Awesome hike! A little rocky along the way but overall a good trail. Read the reviews and watch for markers as it looks like some may have gone off the path. Saw many kids and older adults hiking and also dogs. The views are so worth it when you get to the top. Make sure your phone or camera is ready!

Great short trail! My 67y.o. Mom with double knee replacement was able to navigate up/down steep areas on easy trail. I wouldn’t recommend to just anyone with knee replacements. My mom is extraordinary and stubborn!! Only con: easy trail not clearly marked. Many trails off main path.

We didn’t get to see the fall which was disappointing but the trail it self was beautiful! We hike a lot and this trail was shorter than most but I would say it’s pretty moderate not easy. My dog loved the lake at the end!

fun trail, not alot of work. swam at the base of the fall.

Gorgeous trail and nicely shaded. Perfect for an easy outing. Probably my favorite trail of the weekend for its simplicity and beauty.

I absolutely loved this trail. The view is absolutely spectacular and worth the short hike it takes to get there.

I would advise you to wear hiking boots, though. The entire trail is loose/upright rocks that’ll surely trip you up.

Also, keep a close eye out for little orange triangles, they indicate the main trail and keep you on track. There are plenty of little side trails people have created that can confuse you when you get closer to the cliff.

Kid friendly, great swimming place shallow rock in lake right below falls.
In summer, waterfall is not flowing, but still a nice hike with plenty to see.

Amazing trail! Surprisingly we didn’t get lost and we thought we would.. just make sure you follow the markers on the trees. It’s a really steep hill going down at first and of course really steep going back up but when you get to the top it is AWESOME!

A nice morning hike after biking too the trailhead through town.

Great view of waterfall! The walk down is easy. However, on the trip back up the last part will get your heart pumping!

Trail is steep going in and includes switchbacks. However, not too bad when you get past that. Beautiful vista point, and definitely one of the best/coolest pictures you'll ever take of yourself on that lookout point.

Tough but doable.

A super nice workout!! The view is amazing. Was so much more than I expected. I’ll be coming back for sure

So I did this trail last year and to say it’s a rewarding hike is an understatement! I’m a big gal and it took me some time to get to the top (like 2 hrs) but it was such a rewarding view! It’s a bucket list hike and still so proud of myself. It’s mostly climbing btw not hiking.
