I did a little backpack weight training on the trail starting at the biker entrance. It was around a total of 10 miles out and back. There are a lot of different mostly shaded trails/dirt roads you can take depending on what you want to do for the first 5 miles or so.

Once the elevation gain starts, make sure you have water and sun protection because there is no shade like mentioned in previous reviews. However, there is a nice, shaded rest area towards the end of the gain with benches and outhouses. The bathrooms were locked when I was there during the week.

If you hike the part where the elevation gain starts, I would rate this hike more as moderate just because of how exposed to the sun you are.

I’m just starting to get into the world of hiking & camping, this was the first trail on my list & I really enjoyed it! I decided to go in the late afternoon (started hiking around 5) & enjoyed really nice shady areas & beautiful views of the mountains during the second half of the hike. There’s a ton of beautiful greenery & wild flowers/plants, & also ran into a few lizards along the way. The inclines & declines are nothing to be worried about, just be prepared to take a bunch of pictures. I recommend taking the narrow road down towards the larger parking lot, as the incline up after you’re done would be a brutal trek to your car. As a beginner, this hike was nothing too difficult. I will definitely come visit this trail again soon!

For Hikers, google "Marshall Canyon Staging Area" and start from there. Alltrails' map starts off at an elementary school that's so far from the actual trail for hikers.

Looking back at the map now, it would be best to go east on Stephens Ranch Road from the staging area. We ended up going south and then hiked north. It's all down hill and little shade.

Once we arrived at the 3.5 marker (according to Alltrails' map), we went the in a counter clock wise route. This is more difficult than going in a clock wise fashion as the east side of the trail is much steeper than the west/north side. I'll know now to check out the elevation map for better planning in the future.

The east side has little to no shade. The west/north has plenty of shade.

All the creeks were on vacation, we saw zero bodies of water on this hike during this time of the year, July 29. Was hoping to find a nice shaded hike with streams of water during the heat.

Saw a few bunnies, lizards, ants and snake skins on the trail.

Started at 3pm and got back at 7pm. Got real dark at 8-820pm in the area. Gates close at sunset or 8pm.

Looking forward to coming back here in Spring time.

Wonderful ! Most of the hike is under beautiful trees. There’s only like 15 minuets under the sun. The water is cold and perfect for the summer

I have entered the trail in La Verne—around the trail’s 3.5 mile market—and have gone both directions—towards the trailhead in Claremont and the other way up the mountain. It is easy in the Claremont side, but gets progressively more challenging the other way. Around mile marker 5, the trail starts getting steep and progressively steeper. Not easy for sure. I’d say intermediate is more accurate. Also around there is shade no more! Good workout, but be prepared and know what you are getting into!!

Parked at Oak Mesa Elementary School off Wheeler Ave. Access to the trail through the park over the wash bride takes you to Los Robles right, to Via De Mansion right, to Orangewood St left, trail head half ways down the block on your left. Find the trail head on Google Maps “Marshall Canyon Biking Trail”

Trail has good shade throughout first 4 miles in then it opened up. Not to technical, some loose trails closer to the the top loop. Carful on Roller Coaster Trail coming down.

Beautiful hike plenty of shade too...

Fantastic trail, mostly shade. Get there early cause parking lots fill up.

I did this hike with my family including my 3 kids. They were brave and finished the hike, which was tiresome on the return because of the incline. Alot of poison ivy and some small snakes along the way. Weather was great, and trail was busy for the most part.

Great hike. my kids loved it and my dog enjoyed it aswell. Hike wasnt to hard. There is shade for most of the hike.

Great hike in the summer. The tree cover makes it cool. But watch for poison oak of the trail.

One of the best hiking trails! part of the trail is shadowed the other part is up and down but so narrow! just keep in mind you need to purchase a daily pass before you get there if not you might got a ticket! have hiking shoes because all half of the trail you have water and you need to cross the water but thew view and the waterfall is amazing!

There were quite a few bugs but the view of the mountains was beautiful.

What a beautiful area! A stream running through the entire walk leading up to a small but lovely waterfall. Decent elevation, inclining slowly but surely. Lots of tree cover so you're not baking in the sun until you get very far along the trail. Wonderful hiking trail.

Get a parking pass! Make sure you drive all the way down to park near the start, saves time. Great sceneries, shaded trail for about half the the way. Clear running water most of the trail. Water fall is nice, you can go into the base of the waterfall when water is at a high level. 10/10 would recommend.

So beautiful, we went first thing in the morning & it was perfect. So fun to explore! We found both waterfalls, it took us about 4 hours but we did get a little turned around & took our time to stop when we saw a pretty view!

Fun to walk. Great for beginners.

Great trail to get some cardio in. Be on the lookout, I had a bear pop out on to the trail today when I got to the top.

Loved this trail! Had some trouble finding it...Yes, you should go over the bridge and walk through the neighborhood...but once found it was great! This will be a repeated trail absolutely. I hadn't been hiking in awhile and this trail was easy enough that it didn't kill me. Great trees, some old stables and lovely scenery

Beautiful magical fairy land

Amazing trail. Best if you have water resistant shoes. Sad the people leave trash all over the place, but the NPS does a good job, as always, keeping it nice.

Just hiked this trai, with a 20 lb pack. l. FIRST - The directions are wrong. The easiest way to say it is go to the golf course and park, or park out on the road before golf course and walk the 1/2 mile. Then, walk behind parking lot ad see the trail down below, across railroad tracks, that's your trailhead.

It's 2 miles mostly winding UP to the intersection of Brush Canyon Trail (to the right) and Scully Ridge to the left...stay left. maybe a 2 1/2 mile stretch on the ridge, up and down rolling hills before the trail hooks around and heads into the canyon on, Lower Alisio. You stay on this, another 2.5'ish miles when if you're not careful, you will miss the right turn UP to Brush Canyon Trail, which is a few windy switchbacks, back UP to Scully Ridge and the trail back to the golf course.

If I didn't have the pack it's good for trail running, although the straight ups most likely to be hiked....

We loved it !!

Love it definitely going back our furry babies love the adventure

this was a really nice hike but if you're going to go to the big waterfall after the smaller one make sure you are in shape and you have friends with you because it's slippery and it can be dangerous

Loves this hike. Took us about an hour, we didn’t quite get to the falls because we got lost. Sometimes we couldn’t find the right path to take. But I absolutely loved the views. It was fairly easy.

Great shaded hike with multiple water crossings. Can be packed.

Was really busy but the trail was easy and a nice walk.
I would definately recommend carrying on up the waterfalls to the biggest 1. had the whold place to ourselves for around an hour in the middle of a Sat - was wonderful!
