We clearly did not do enough research prior to this hike, and since we lost cell reception just after the #1, we were unable to confirm any additional details of the hike. There is a king creek parking lot, but be aware the hike does not start from the parking lot, and in fact starts just off hwy 40, prior to the parking lot turn off. We ended up walking down the creek and did find another trail, which ended up leading us to a dead end. We did not see anyone else on that trail, however nor did we see any wildlife. We will be back to do the proper hike again.

What a view!!!! Be there when sun shines!

quick hike with elevation. river bed dry. better with water I would imagine.

The parking lot is full by around 630am. Make sure to be there early

Great walk with nice balance of vertical and walking. Big horn sheep are a bonus.

Got on the trail early morning, almost nobody else was around, very relaxing walk. The lakes are worth checking out but get very busy.

my goodness. beautiful view of glaciers and waterfalls across the way.

An excellent hike although the first part is through the trees so really nothing to see but forest. Once you get up to Mirror Lake the views get better. Still a bit icy and slippery in the upper sections. Staff at the tea house were busy getting the place ready for opening in June, but even though they were not officially open they were selling tea and other goodies out of the back door. The tea was perfect after the hike up. Excellent views of the lake and mountains.

Great little hike. Did it March of 2017. Lots of snow. Was quiet and beautiful.

Great little trail that ends at the teahouse.

Probably our favorite hike because of the pretty lake views. We had 3 kids ages 6, 7, and 11. It was busy even late in the day. The couple ahead of us encountered a black bear on Trail 9a and turned back. We proceeded forward and never spotted the bear (probably because our youngest was crying so loud because she was tired). We did carry bear spray. The lakes are serene. Loved the little dock at 5th Lake.

We arrived at the Lake Louise parking lot by 7am and there was plenty of parking (Note-Lake Moraine lot was already full). Give yourself time to take lake photos because the light in the lake and surrounding mountains will be different when you get back from hike. We started the hike uphill by about 7:20 am and arrived at the tea house by about 8:40. We were with 3 kids ages 6, 7, and 11. They were more upset about being up at the crack of dawn than about the steep incline. There were quite a few groups passing us on the ascent. The trail is even and wide for the most part. There are areas of rocks and roots where my 7 year old tripped and skinned his elbow while running. Beware of horse poop on the 2nd half of the trail. There is not much of a view during most of the hike. Save some energy before the tea house to climb the steep 60 step staircase. We were lucky to grab one of the last tables in the tea house. The staff was busy unloading goods that were just unloaded from the helicopter. Once they were done unpacking more tables became available. A long line had already formed by 9am. The oolong tea and biscuits were delicious. BRING CASH (they accept US dollars). The views from the tea house are beautiful (tables are located inside and outside). Overall the hike was definitely worth waking up early for. The hike back down took our family of 5 one hour. We wanted to grab a shuttle to Lake Moraine but at $30 per person we opted to save our money and enjoy drinks on the patio at one of the Fairmont outdoor restaurants.
Tip: if you want to see Lake Louise and Lake Moraine park early (7am the latest) at LL. When ready take a free shuttle to Overflow parking lot where you can pay $15 per person for shuttle to Lake Moraine. If you take Shuttle from LL Fairmont it will cost $30. You can always chance it and try parking at Lake Moraine. But they only let cars in once 10 cars have exited. They refuse all cars from entering otherwise (not even to drop off people).

Amazing view of the 5 lakes!

The hight of this canyon is impressive, the walk in the Johnston Canyon is prettier but this Canyon itself is more beautiful. The water's colour is unreal. The end is beautiful, come around noon to have the best light. It's not too crowed compare to the JC.
The walk is super easy, it's not even a hike. Perfect for smoky days like today.

Has anyone been here today? If so how was the smoke? We are doing a day trip there tomorrow from Edmonton. Thanks Krista .

Casual stroll through the forest until you reach the falls, where there is a short, steep section. Little effort for large reward. Did this hike late evening so decided not to explore below the falls but there seems to be lots more trail to explore.

Nice accessible hike to a great lake. Great for beginners, the trail is a bit uninteresting along the way, but the lake is worth it.

Very nice to sit and enjoy a cup of tea at the top while taking in our beautiful surroundings. We got to the top at 8am and crowds weren't an issue at all yet, but it was pretty packed by the time we left. We continued up to the big beehive - even if you don't want to hike all the way up, I highly recommend walking around to the other side of the lake - the view looking back at the teahouse is really pretty

Great trail to do with the kids. We had a nice sunny spot for a picnic once we reached the falls.

great trail

Nice and easy hike. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

Nice hike. The lake views are spectacular and the tea house is delishious! Bring cash for a snack.
Bit steep in some places but not bad.

Air quality still a little smoky in Waterton today but not bad. Burned areas are present over much of the trail but Bertha lake is still pristine. Burned forest areas are filling up with thimbleberries, colorful fireweed, and other plants and the views of Waterton lake and the surrounding mountains are opened up. Trail is very busy and it is difficult to get a photo without someone walking into it but I had no worries about bears or injury with so much potential help available so there’s the silver lining. Don’t let the burned areas keep you from doing this one. It is still well worth the trip.

People are right, parking is hard to get there early. The view is also the best in the morning. It’s an easy short hike, though some children and seniors may find it difficult. There are good views from the bottom of the pile so even those with physical disabilities could enjoy the view of moraine.

Nice views, not too long for family with children.

We made it up to the tea house.. nice trail for family fun.. slippery when wet/snow but we have a lot of unforgettable experiences

This relatively short hike takes you quickly past the tree line and offers great views along the ridge. Once at the top there are even more trails that offer even better views. One trail takes you down a little to view the glaciers. Another trail takes you up another hundred or so feet to that has great views of Mount Athabasca and the surrounding mountains. The hike was short and steep bu the views made it 100% worth it.

Incredible hike. The views start relatively early in the hike, so it’s worth doing even if you only want complete a short part of it. The views at the top are absolutely stunning. One of my favorites.
