too many people not enough parking

Depending on your athletic ability, this could be considered more than moderate. We had four kids with us ages 3-10 and they all did it but it was tough in some spots. Steep inclines with difficult footing- hiking shoes recommended! It was an amazing view from the top and the breeze made it worth it. Lots of broken glass which cut our trip short- my little guy slipped and cut his arm on a piece. He’s ok but parents should know it’s not the cleanest peak we’ve been too.

Easy access with reasonable amount of shade along the way. Big part of the trail is paved.

Nice scenic trail. Did it in the early morning on a cloudy day. lots of interesting Rock formations and boulders.

Came here on a weekday when we could park at the trailhead. It's a short but steep hike up to the top. The views were still amazing despite some of the haziness from the nearby fires. Definitely plan to come back when the sky clears and to go to stargazing.

Great, beautiful challenging hike. My family are all avid hikers and this one was a bit difficult because of the rocks. I have weak ankles and even with wearing hiking boots with great support, two days after the hike it feels like my ankle has a mild sprain. However, DO NOT let that keep you from going on this hike! I loved it so much! We went down the area with the ropes and followed the shore all the way past the shipwreck and then up the steep hill back to the road. We didn’t stop at all because we were concerned about high tide closing us in, but we were still out there at high tide. The path was pretty narrow in some spots, but didn’t keep us from going through. We loved all the little crabs in between the rocks as we went! The only thing that I wasn’t too fond of was the seaweed. It was very slippery! We took a 8 and 10 year old. The 8 year old had a hard time by the end, but he doesn’t go on as many hikes as my son (the 10 year old). If you just want to see the shipwreck, I recommended going backward on the trail from this map and then going back. It’s much shorter and easier for those who don’t want to deal as much with the rocks. We started about 8 am and finished about 12 pm. We didn’t see any other hikers the whole time, just every once in a while we would see people fishing.

I’m just starting to get into the world of hiking & camping, this was the first trail on my list & I really enjoyed it! I decided to go in the late afternoon (started hiking around 5) & enjoyed really nice shady areas & beautiful views of the mountains during the second half of the hike. There’s a ton of beautiful greenery & wild flowers/plants, & also ran into a few lizards along the way. The inclines & declines are nothing to be worried about, just be prepared to take a bunch of pictures. I recommend taking the narrow road down towards the larger parking lot, as the incline up after you’re done would be a brutal trek to your car. As a beginner, this hike was nothing too difficult. I will definitely come visit this trail again soon!

Great hike last nite and way to step into my birthday..As I keep doing this hike weekly, I definitely feel a positive difference in my body and mind and its conditioning me to level up with ease onto longer and higher altitude trails.

Great workout! Quite steep going uphill and going left at the T intersection. Bring lots of water and bug repellant. I was swating mosquitos the whole time. Still got bit 27 times!
The only reason I don’t give it a 5 star is there’s no facilities at the trailhead and parking is really limited. Fortunately most people don’t stay that long. Also, it’s quite popular on weekend mornings so the trail can get pretty crowded.
The view at the peak is spectacular!

A quick getaway hike that is easy to get to. Counterclockwise for the view at the end. Clockwise for a bit more cardio.

Easy and very nice. Rock, woods, very small rivers... A variety if elements to enjoy. The ride. Excellent for kids that will trigger their imagination.

The views are spectacular and second to none. The parking is limited. The crowds are dangerously overwhelming. Be extra careful when going up there.

The reason this hike only gets 4 stars is the lack supervision from park rangers. I saw a lot of people careless on trail that doesn't give second chances.

Great hike. I was tempted to take a star off for the amount of fellow hikers. My friend and I were slow, so we were constantly moving to the side to let others pass (our problem, not theirs). However, the hike itself is worth five stars. The "destination" at the end was fun and the views were great. We started at about 6:45 am and were in shade most of the time, which was wonderful in the SoCal summer.

This is a definite "share the road" experience. Equal numbers of hikers and mountain bikers. Most bikers were considerate (had bells and let us know how many were still coming) and friendly. However, there were one or two that flew around the corner and nearly mowed us down. One guy said "My bad" as he flew past us--if he had a bell, we would have heard him coming--get a bell, dude! My friend and I started at about 6:45 on a Saturday morning. We actually went counterclockwise, not on purpose, and only did about the first 4 miles, then turned around. It was a great hike and we will do it again, for sure. (Next time going clockwise, so we can actually see the stream.) There are a couple of places where the trail narrows or has a recent scree pile to navigate over, but all-in-all, a lovely hike. About 50% has cover and is cool. The steam on the side we went was a trickle and dry in many places--but it's august, so..

很不错的一条线路,一路树荫,这个季节山下39度,山里很凉快,就是没什么水,推荐!2-3小时走完

The views were amazing, but I'm not really sure the hike should be rated at "hard". There is minimal ascending or descending. Great for a few hours and head past the shipwreck for more amazing views.

An amazingly beautiful hike!!! Took two groups there and it was really great fun! We used the rope to get down the cliff which was a great call and hiking along the water is fun and challenging at the same time. We actually climbed up the cliff about a half a mile after the shipwreck and then it’s about an 8 minute drive back to the car! I highly recommend this hike!!!

Great hike. The left trail is easier for children. Less steep. Make sure to wear good shoes.

We met up slightly after the sunrise for a relatively cool hike, despite the season. The mountain ridges on the way up shielded us from the sun for the most of the ascent, and a bit cloud cover was an extra gift as well. The views on the way up are unparalleled, both of the San Gabriel Valley, JPL, and the San Gabriel Mountains. Once at the top, there sits the ruins of an old resort, the Echo Mountain House. There is a super cool Echo Phone towards the end of the ruins, past the water basin, which has some bright color graffiti. There’s a lot to see up here, not to mention the panoramic views of the Los Angeles area. The whole hike took about 3 hours for us, with a break at the top. I highly recommend this one. It’s a medium difficulty trail, because of the ascent, but probably a good transition for beginner to intermediate hikers. I’m definitely coming back, but I want to try some of the longer routes, possibly from the Sunset Ridge Loop Trail.

Hope you enjoy!

Wonderful ! Most of the hike is under beautiful trees. There’s only like 15 minuets under the sun. The water is cold and perfect for the summer

Great family trail, lots of shade, cool for summer time.

Nice hike with the younger kids...

Spectacular views. Hike is rigorous due to the steepness going up. Return hike is all down hill. I recommend hiking shoes and poles would be helpful. Bring plenty of water with you.

beautiful, but crowded.

Attempted my 1st nite hike ever at 10pm last night. Facing the city lights ,
one foot in front of the other, headlights on , hiking backpack equipped with 6bottles H20, snacks , battery pack and cell phone charger. I trailed with hiking poles the scenic switchbacks. I recommend to focus light on ur step ahead as you may trip or step on a innocent tarantula. Take breaks to bring your heart at a cool beat and breath in and breath out slowly when needed... Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate..once u make it to the top , u can reward yourself with a cold one

Strenuous but relatively short climb (1 mile from PCH trailhead to flagpole.) great views. However, the mosquitoes are fierce, especially early - we started ~7am to avoid heat and even used DEET but still came away with lots of bug bites. So it’s a toss-up in the summer....heat vs bites. Consider going when sun has hit hill and fewer mosquitos are out, may help.

Fun hike, many mosquitoes though.

Not really a hike but the view is breathtaking

I hiked this trail on my way to Will Rogers from the San Fernando Valley. It's a nice little hike with some spectacular views.
