This was my first visit to Catawba Falls. I tend to stick to less traveled trails but I had a friend with that had been to the upper falls and he assured me it would be less populated. Being a Monday morning there were already not as many people there.

I would say that it is a walk to the lower falls and a scramble to the upper. I remembered to turn on the recorder today which shows the route up. There were a few options and it makes a loop going up. we went to the right at the fork which was a more difficult trail but we (I) wanted to do the easier route coming down. Because it had rained recently the trail was a little slippery so I mostly slid down on my butt. I thought that was a better option than falling down the mountain.

The upper falls were beautiful and worth the climb if you like that sort of thing. (I do). We did have to lift the dog up and down in a few places. I will definitely do this hike again. All in all it was less than 4 miles so not really a workout but it was fun.

Went there yesterday. Took us about 35 mins to the top. It was our very first hike so I wouldn't say it was easy, especially the part from the middle to the top, but not bad and totally doable for the first-timers. The trail was muddy and slippery so bring some good boots. Visibility wasn't perfect, but still the views were amazing!! Many tiny paths on the top so you can find a multiple cool spots either you go right or left. Our Cane Corso girl really liked it too!

I adore this location! We had Jadie Pup with us and was a great place to let her out to stretch her legs! Kid friendly! Very nice RS with wonderful staff and a National Park Services gift shop! Highly recommend! Might I suggest you read about the viaduct itself! It was featured in Modern Marvels on Discovery Channel!

Easy and beautiful hike! Because of that combo, there were crowds of people but we were still able to enjoy the views and take some pictures. Would like to hike on to Jane Bald next time!

Enjoyable walk with good scenery.

Big bang for the buck. Not too long, and awesome views!

Loved! Beautiful waterfall!

We hiked to the top of this trail and the view was breathtaking. It is quite hard to get up for beginners/ people who do not hike uphill often but the payoff was 100% worth it.

Pretty falls, easy walk, crowded. Was able to share the view with about 30 new best friends.

I would rate this as moderate not easy as it is pretty steep with mud and uneven path. The view would have been great if it were not so cloudy.

We have done this multiple times during our visits to the High Country over the years. The kids were young when we started and did fine. Great views on the outcroppings of rocks along the way

Gorgeous falls, wish we would have had our swim suits to swim at the base of the falls. Rocky at some points but still easy to hike.

Not too strenuous and well defined trail in most places. Train is not marked so got turned around a few times. Not very busy on a Saturday afternoon. Most dogs on leash except one. Great shade, lots off mushrooms and moss, and yummy forest smells. One thing I’d change if I could is that you can hear all the loud ass touring motorcycles on the parkway as the noise travels up.

Nice, easy hike out to the remains of a remote lodge.

Nice trail with some pretty views. Moderately challenging with one pretty steep uphill on the white loop. Make it longer by doing the blue offshoot trail near the stream.

This place is awesome! Best view!!! You can hike all along the gorge and catch overlooks every 1/4 mile or so. No cost to get in and lightly trafficked. Road to get there is a little rough so don’t bring a little compact car like we did the first time.

Beautiful trail. Great views along the ridge line at the top. This is a moderate hike, so prepare to be a little challenged, even though it is short.

Great hike. Bit of a drive to trail head, but worth it. I'm a casual hiker and made it to top in 40 min. Hope to camp up there soon.

Beautiful but heavily trafficked

Nice scenery. Good views.

A short but gorgeous hike. Most if it is uphill and very slippery so shoes with good grip are a necessity. The fall at the very top has a great swimming hole with gorgeous clean mountain water. 10/10

Nice views. Lots of dogs and what dogs leave behind.

Wonderful hike and place to sit and relax. Because it had been so rainy the days before, water volume was way up and we had the place to ourselves.

I fell in love with the blue ridge on the art loeb trail.

Wife and I enjoyed the hike. Saw a few people stop at the false summit. So be mindful of it as you will have to cross water. So wear boots, or water shoes!!

Dogs had fun hiking although there were a few not so friendly pups on the trail. Happy we decided to do this easy trail.

Short hike but has some steep uphill incline. Beautiful falls and area to hang out.

Moderate but short hike. Get to see some nice rock features and water falls. Very fun to explore through the rocks and find new spots.

Amazing views all around

Well worth the hike up the mountain to see these pretty falls and nice swimming hole
